Jordan-13

It's been about a month since everything had happened with Jordan witnessing the murder of the two mobsters and Hank sending her to New York to protect her. It had taken the thirteen-year-old a couple weeks to get over what happened, she had started seeing Dr. Charles to help her deal with everything.

Hank on the other hand, he hasn't been dealing with everything very well. He'd been having nightmares and a lot of them. He wouldn't sleep if he did it be for a couple of hours and then he'd be awake half the night if not the rest of the night. He'd wake up in cold sweat and gasping for breath. He'd get up and run to his daughter's room. He'd find her fast asleep in her bed.

Everyone had noticed the changes in the older man, including Jordan. He'd always be on edge, always snippy with certain people. They knew not to take it because he hadn't been sleeping well. He tried one session with Dr. Charles and figured he was fine. But he wasn't and things were getting worse.

Late one night the Voight household was quiet, Jordan was fast asleep in her room as always. Erin decided to stay with them to help out, she was in her old room also asleep. Hank was in his room, he laid in bed his body was shaking and trembling. He was muttering. A few seconds later he shot awake, he was covered in cold sweat gasping for air.

Throwing the covers off he had run to his daughter's room, he opened the door that was left cracked open. Looking inside he was finally able to breathe. He saw his little girl fast asleep. Erin heard the noise and thought someone had broken in, she cautiously came from her room holding her gun up she lowered it just seeing Hank.

"Hank, what's going on, it's 3:30 in the morning," Erin says quietly.

"I was checking on Jo," Hank answered back just as quietly.

The female detective knew they wouldn't be going back to sleep anytime soon, they went downstairs for coffee. Erin was making a pot while Hank was at the table holding his head in his hands.

"Hank, you've gotta get help. There's nothing wrong with it. Jordy got help when she came home from New York. It helped her get over everything, with..with Yates and with the shooting. I got help. From you, from Jay, from everyone. You can do it to"

"I'm fine Erin, one nightmare doesn't mean I need help"

She had raised her eyebrow. "Just one? Hank, for the past month you'd wake up terrified, you won't sleep, you'd end up watching Jordy sleep all night. Half of the time you won't leave her room. She's going to pick up that you're scared and then she's gonna be scared again. It's ok to ask for help, it's hard but it's ok. It shows that you are human. Get help Hank. For you. For everyone. But most of all, for Jordan. She needs you Hank, that little girl is always going to need you"

"I have been getting help" He hoped she'd see through the lie.

"One session with Dr. Charles isn't gonna be enough. It's going to take time and more than just one session"

"I'm gonna get a run in before Jo gets up before school"

"Hank it's almost 4 in the morning"

"I'll be back"

The older man left the table and went to change Erin had sighed, he put on a sweatshirt, sweatpants, and his sneakers. He grabbed his phone and a gun putting it in his waistband. Once he was changed he went into his little girl's room. Jordan was fast asleep under her comforter, a bear next to her. Seeing it the older man smiled.

It was a bear Anna had given her when she was a baby, it was something she always kept. Something she'd never let go. It was one of the only connections she has with her mother. Hank smiled, she looked so peaceful as she slept. Her first week home was bad.

The teen had woken up night after night with nightmares, she'd cry and scream waking up her father. Hank wouldn't sleep that whole week. If he did he slept on her floor with a blanket and pillow. He'd always told her if anyone tried to get in, they wouldn't make it out.

Jordan very slightly stirred, Hank gently brushed her hair back. "Shh it's alright sweetheart, go back to sleep"

Hearing her father's gruff voice, it sounded gentle and soft. She buried herself deeper under the covers and went back to sleep before she woke up for school. The older father had softly kissed her head and left her to sleep.

Erin had gone back to sleep on the couch, Hank went down to see her and he threw the throw blanket over her. He left the house locking it up and started running. He only ran when he was stressed and he was indeed stressed. Soon the older man had taken off for his run.

It was a cool morning, it was dark out and nobody was on the streets, the sidewalks were lit up by the street lights. Hank was running at a fast pace. His mind started wondering.

He soon began thinking of the Yates case just months ago, the sick bastard killed, tortured, and raped women. He toyed with Erin and her emotions. He kidnapped Jordan.

Hank started to dig his nails into the palm of his hand as he felt his anger rising. Yates had tricked his little girl to leave the district. He kept her locked in the trunk of a car. Killed someone in front of her. Blame her for her mother's death.

That was the main thing that fueled Hank's anger. Jordan heard she was to blame for her mother's death. Since Anna's death he always dreaded to tell his little girl the truth about her mother. She was only 5 months old when Anna was killed in action. He remembered the day he was notified. He remembered it like it was yesterday.

*Flashback*

Hank was with his two children, he and Justin were playing with Jordan on the floor with baby toys. The small baby girl laughed and squealed playing with them. Both men smiled happily.

The doorbell rang, Hank was getting a very uneasy feeling in his stomach. Something wasn't right. He looked to his son.

"Take your sister into the kitchen. I'll be there as soon as I can be" Hank told his son.

"You got it Pop" Justin nodded quickly.

The elder man picked up his baby sister and went to take her into the kitchen, he held her close to his chest. He was getting a bad feeling about something. He stayed by the doorway listening.

Opening the door Hank felt his heart race, he saw the two men they were with the FBI. One was Anna's partner, Phil. Both men had sad painful looks. The older man was getting a very bad feeling.

"What's going on Phil? Anna's ok isn't she?" Hank asked worried.

Anna had been working undercover for a case and hadn't called or reported in days, it was starting to worry Hank but he didn't let it show in front of his children.

"Hank, I'm sorry to be the one to tell you this but Anna-" Phil was cut off by Hank.

"No! No she's not! She can't be" He choked out.

"Anna was killed in the line of duty"

"NO!"

*Back to reality*

A loud horn broke Hank out of his thoughts, he continued running. The anniversary of Anna's death was approaching which had been making him more on edge. Everything was hitting him all at once and he was on the verge of snapping completely.

He kept running more memories coming back hitting him. This time it was when Yates had taken his little girl. He had nearly gone out of his head.

*Flashback*

Greg Yates was back, he was in Chicago. He had murdered, raped, and tortured women, and he had kidnapped Jordan. Hank couldn't focus on anything. His little girl was in the hands of a psychopath.

Where had he gone wrong? What did he do wrong? The older man had taken all the right precautions. He had kept her out of school, he made sure she was under tight protection at the district. How did this happen?

The team knew to stay away from Hank at the moment he was seething, they had seen him angry before. But this was something different. His daughter was taken, they'd all feel the same way.

Hank was in his office trying to control his emotions otherwise he'd be taken off the case, there was no way in hell that would happen. Not a chance in seven hells. The older Sergeant would work the case and get his little girl back.

Mouse was saying something about a possible sighting of Jordan, Hank's ears perked at that. "Halstead take Ruzek and check it out"

The two men didn't say a word, they grabbed their jackets and left.

Going back to his office he slammed the door so hard it could have come off the hinges. The squad was quiet for a moment when everyone jumped hearing glass shatter followed by a loud scream. The Intelligence team knew a couple things for sure, one, they had to find Jordan. And kill Yates.

*Back to reality*

The older man stopped to catch his breath and wipe his forehead of the sweat that started to fall. He checked the time, it was 5:30. He'd already been out for over an hour and a half. Jordan would be up soon for school. He started to head back to his house.

As he ran the case just the month before when his little girl witnessed the murder, that had started to replay in his head.

*Flashback*

Hank was on edge and pissed he had to send his little girl away to protect her after she had witnessed the murder. He nearly lost her on a few occasions. He was not losing her again, as much as it pained him he tried not to contact her he didn't wanna put her in any danger. If he did make any contact it would be in private.

The team was working effortlessly to find this guy so Jordan wouldn't have to testify. Everyone knew what happened to witnesses in a murder case if they talk. They get killed. That was not about to be Jordan.

After what seemed like a long case, they had found the bastard. He was in the cage with a smirk on his face. "I get out. Your daughter be the first person I kill"

Opening the door and walking in, Hank closed it behind him. He pulled out a knife and opened it and put it right at his throat. "Let me make something perfectly clear to you. If you or any of your people go even an inch near my daughter, I will take you all out. Starting with you. Nothing is stopping me from ending you here and now"

"You don't scare me"

Taking the knife Hank brought it to his ear, the only sounds that were heard were screams.

*Back to reality*

Stopping once again, Hank arrived at his house. It was now 6 am, he'd been gone for just about 2 hours. How time flies. Going in he saw the couch empty which meant Erin was up. The shower was going which meant one of them was in there. He decided to shower in the shower on the main floor. He went up and grabbed his stuff.

Jordan was just getting up, Erin was hopping out the shower she went to her room to change. The thirteen-year-old went to the bathroom and started her shower. Hank had grabbed his stuff and went to the shower downstairs.

Once the three were changed they met in the kitchen, Hank was making breakfast when the two girls entered the kitchen. He glanced over with a smile.

"Morning" He says.

"Morning" Erin spoke with a smile.

"Good morning dad" Jordan said with a smile of her own.

Hank had put a plate of food in front of his daughter, while she ate he began packing her lunch for school. Erin poured herself some coffee and went over to the older man.

"You've been gone a while" Her voice was soft and quiet.

"Just needed to clear my head" Hank told her just as quietly. "I'm good now"

"Hank, it's ok not to be ok. I don't think you should come in today. With this bust, I don't think your head is where it needs to be. Take the day, get some rest. Go see Dr. Charles"

"I said I'm fine Erin"

"You weren't last night"

"Erin I said I'm fine, now please drop it!"

Jordan glanced when she heard her father raise his voice, Erin sighed and put her cup down.

"If you don't wanna get help for yourself, at least do it for Jordy. I'm gonna go meet up with the others" She left it at that.

She put her mug in the sink and, making sure she had her gun and badge, the female detective left to meet up with her team. Hank sighed and finished his daughter's lunch. Looking over the teen saw the look on her father's face.

"Daddy" Jordan started cautiously not wanting to upset or anger him more. "Are you sure you're ok?"

After taking a deep breath he turned with a soft smile. "I'm just fine sweetheart"

"It's ok if you're not. I know with everything that happened in the past few months, it's normal for you to be upset and stressed. I was. It's ok to admit you need help. I did and I feel better. Please get help daddy please"

Sighing, the older father went over and sat next to his daughter and he pulled her close. He was hurting and she knew. That was the last thing he wanted was to worry her again. She had just finished healing, he didn't wanna bring all that pain back to her. He'd never forgive himself.

"I promise, I'm ok baby. I don't want you to worry about me. It's my job to worry about you"

"If your sure"

"I'm positive sweet girl" He kissed her head. "Go get your stuff so we can head out. We don't wanna be late"

The teen nodded and went to grab her backpack, taking a deep breath Hank went to get his gun and badge from his safe. Soon the father and daughter left, the older father had driven his daughter to school and dropped her off. He still felt uneasy leaving her alone, unprotected. He didn't wanna risk anything or take any chances. Pulling out his phone he called Trudy.

"I need a favor," Hank says.

Over at the district, Trudy was just getting off the phone with Hank. He asked for Roman and Burgess to sit and keep watch at Jordan's school. The older woman knew her friend was still struggling with everything on top of the anniversary of Anna's death coming up. She just wished Hank would admit he needs help.

Kim and Sean were just coming over to the desk, the two partners had seen their desk.

"Morning Sergeant" Kim greeted her.

"You two are assigned to detail today" She told them.

They perked up, they loved being involved with intelligence's cases.

"What's the case? What's the detail?" Sean asked.

"The detail is a thirteen-year-old daughter of a police Sergeant, who happens to be my goddaughter"

"Jordan? She's the detail? We're back to being babysitters again?"

Trudy cocked her eye. "You have a problem with that?"

Kim stepped on her partner's foot. "Not at all Sarge. We'd be happy too right Sean" She gave her partner a sharp look.

"Yeah. Don't get me wrong, she's a good kid and I like her" Sean rambled.

Trudy raised her eye more. Kim put her hand to her forehead.

"Sean, shut it,"

"I should really do that,"

"Smart choice and let me be extremely clear to both of you, there better not be any repeats of what happened months ago. Otherwise Hank will be the very least of your worries. We clear" Trudy told them sharply.

"Crystal clear" They said in union.

She handed them a set of keys and they left. About five minutes later Hank had come in and gone to his friend.

"Hey Trudy, are they in place?"

"Burgess and Roman are outside of Jo's school as we speak"

"Thanks. I owe you one"

"Not a problem. Hey Hank, between us. Are you ok? I know with-" She was cut off.

"I'm good Trudy, thanks"

"Alright. Just checkin in making sure"

"I appreciate it"

Hank had gone up to the squad, the team was going over the plan for that day. They had to do a bust on a house that a cartel was using. Once they had gone over the game plan a couple times to make sure everything would turn out fine.

Everyone had geared up downstairs, everyone was putting their vests on, making sure they're guns were loaded and all. Erin still felt uneasy about having Hank in the field when he wasn't in the right state of mind. She had pulled Antonio and Alvin to the side.

"I don't think Hank should be in the field. He's not in a good mind state" Erin told them quietly.

"He seems ok and he says he's ok" Antonio spoke.

"He's not, he woke up last night at 3:30 in the morning he hasn't been back to sleep since. He's not sleeping, he won't admit he needs help"

"I'll keep an eye on him," Alvin said.

She looked worried. "I'm worried about him Al, a lot has happened the past few months, to him, to Jordy, he says he's fine but he needs help"

"We'll keep an eye on him"

Hank looked at the small trio. "You guys ready to roll?"

"Let's go," Antonio said.

As they left, Hank felt as if he was forgetting something. But what?

Meanwhile

Kim and Sean were bored. Bored would be an understatement. They've been sitting in the car for what seemed like hours. Sean was ready to drill holes into his skull.

"Why the babysitting detail again?" Sean asked out loud.

"Maybe something happened and Hank doesn't want anything to happen to her again" Kim answered.

"Possibly. If Hank is worried again, why not just keep her at the district?"

"I guess it's something we'll never know Sean. Hank has reasons for whatever it is he does especially if it involves Jordan"

"Very good point"

While the two were talking, Jordan had snuck out of the school. Sean had seen her. "What is she doing? School isn't out"

"Let's follow her"

"Follow her? Let's stop her"

The two kept bickering about what to do, Jordan had run off. When they looked their hearts sank.

"We're in trouble," Kim groaned. "Again"

"I should have called in dead," Sean sighed.

The two partners started to search for the thirteen-year-old and hopefully they don't get caught again.

While

The intelligence team rolled up on the house they were supposed to hit. As they opened their doors shots were fired from the house. All of them quickly took cover and ducked down. Adam had taken one in the shoulder.

They all returned fire, for the next fifteen minutes all could be heard were the gunshots. Hank pulled out his radio.

"This is 50-21 I need all available dispatched to our location. Repeat I need all available!"

It was now coming back to Hank, one of his informants had called him and told him people would be sitting on the house. How could he be so stupid? How could he forget? He let his own team into a trap and now Adam was injured.

Soon the streets were filled with cop cars and the shots were coming to a halt. The shooters from the house ran and they started the search for them. Adam was getting loaded into an ambulance. Hank couldn't believe what just happened, he could have gotten not only himself killed but his whole team. He had felt extremely guilty.

Everyone was going back to the district, Hank sat in his car for a few minutes. Maybe everyone was right, he did need help and he was too damn stubborn to admit it. He started driving back to the district not knowing his phone was ringing with Jordan's school calling.

Trudy was at her desk when her phone rang, it was her goddaughter's school. Hank had put her as an emergency contact if Hank was unreachable.

"District 21, Sergeant Platt, how can I help you" Her eyes went wide. "When? Alright thank you. I'll make sure her father knows, he's in the field. Thank you"

A glare appeared on her face. Sean and Kim didn't know where to start looking for the teen they knew if they had gone back to the district they'd get reamed by Trudy.

"We're dead, so dead," Sean said.

"Maybe she didn't go far. She could have gone to the district and she's with Platt" Kim says, her voice full of worry.

"And if she's not? If something does happen to her?"

"You're right, were dead. Wait we could have Mouse track her phone and we go pick her up"

"Call him"

Kim had called the tech and put the phone on speaker. The tech started to track the teen's movement, Trudy knew her officers better than they knew themselves. She had gone upstairs and saw the tech typing rapidly and frantically while whispering. She had a pretty good guess at who he was talking to.

"I'm sending you guys her location please try not to lose her again. I prefer to live" Mouse said quietly into his phone.

"Who ya talking to Mouse?" Trudy asked, seeing the tech now jump.

Mouse had jumped about fifteen feet out of his chair and spun around seeing Trudy. "H-hey Sarge, didn't see you there. What's up?"

"What did Burgess and Roman want that they couldn't come to me for? Because last I checked they were watching Jordan. And I also suggest you not lie otherwise not only will you deal with me, you will deal with Hank. And from what I hear he hasn't been in the best of moods lately" She crossed her arms. "Now spill"

"Jordan ditched school and well they… They misplaced her?"

"They lost her. They lost a 13 year old. How do those two lose a 13 year old?"

"I got Jordan's location and she's at a cemetery. I don't know why she'd be there"

Suddenly Trudy got saddened, she knew why her goddaughter would be there. Mouse picked up on it.

"What's wrong? You know why she'd be there?"

"She's visiting her mother"

Meanwhile

Jordan arrived at the cemetery, she'd been there many times and knew where to go. She was walking up on a grave, pulling something out from her backpack. She pulled out some flowers and sat them there. Sitting on the grass she looked at the head stone in front of her.

Anna Carter

Beloved mother, daughter, sister, and friend to all.

She traced the coolness of the head stone and over the letters, tears started stinging and burning in her eyes. The teen never visited her mother's grave alone, she had always been with her father or occasionally Justin.

"H-hi mom, I know I came by myself today. Dad's at work, Justin he's married now and lives on an Army base. I thought it could just be us today" She said to the headstone. "I'm really worried and scared for daddy, he's really been stressed and scared about everything that happened. With Yates, the case last month about sending me away. And I know with the anniversary of your death coming up. He's really on edge. I wanna help him mom but I don't know what to do. He's helped me but he hasn't helped himself. He doesn't know but I hear him at night, he wakes up crying sometimes, he has nightmares. He won't talk to anyone. He had one session with Dr. Charles at Med but that was it. He talked to this one lady, she's really nice. Her name is Olivia, she lives in New York. I stayed with her while dad worked the case last month. She helped a lot when I was with her. Maybe she could help dad"

Kim and Sean searched the cemetery and eventually spotted the teen, they had seen her in front of the gravestone. The partners now realized why she had ditched school.

"At least she's alright," Kim said.

"Let's just get her back before we wind up into trouble if we haven't already," Sean told his partner.

"Maybe...we can give her a few minutes. She came here for privacy Sean. Would you want anyone bugging you while you're in a place like this? Jordan never got true closure when her mother died"

"She didn't?"

"Jo was a baby when she died, she never got to know her mother. The only way she knows her mother is through the stories she's told"

"Poor kid"

Jordan had seen the time and knew it was getting late, she couldn't go back to school so she'd go to the district. When she started walking out she had jumped seeing Kim and Sean.

"What are you guys doing here? How did you find me?" The teen asked. SHe then realized. "You asked Mouse to track my phone didn't you"

"Yeah" Kim answered.

"We also watched you at school," Sean told her.

"I know, I saw your car when I was going outside for gym"

"Let's get you back to the district before your dad starts to worry"

They had gone back to the district.

The Intelligence team had arrived back at the district in the back entrance and Antonio was furious that the ambush was completely set up. Hank was extremely guilty that he brought his team into a set up and nearly got them killed. How could he not tell them before? He thought he had told them, he could have sworn he did.

The senior detective looked to his boss. "What the hell was that Hank?! Are you trying to get us killed?!"

Jay put a hand on his friend's shoulder, he shoved it off. "Did you forget to tell us something before we became target practice?!"

"Antonio that's enough," Erin said sharply.

"After I dropped Jordan off at school one of my informants called, they said people would be watching the house. I didn't know they had weapons. I could have sworn I mentioned it today, I thought I had" Hank spoke.

"Obviously you didn't because we were ambushed! Adam was shot! We were almost killed!"

It was taking everything inside Hank not to snap, if Antonio had said one more thing that would be it. The senior detective should have listened to Erin and because he didn't they were ambushed and one of their own was injured.

He looked at Hank. "You're off the case. You're done until you get some help. I'll take over until you come back"

That had done it. That was the last straw for Hank. "Last time I checked Antonio I'm the Sergeant of this unit NOT you! You don't pull me out because I make one mistake! I admit to my mistake, I know I screwed up. Everyone screws up not just me"

"You almost got us KILLED Hank! KILLED! That's far from a mistake. Until you can get your head on straight again you're benched"

"That's not you're call to make"

"When you put this team in jeopardy and harms way I'm making it my call. Jordan could have ended up as an orphan because of you! You don't care about anything or anyone but yourself. You didn't care about what happened to us, you didn't care that some of us have families, you didn't care that if you had gotten killed Jordan would have no one"

Before Hank knew it he lunged at Antonio and the senior detective was about to fight back. Jay had pulled Antonio back, Kevin and Alvin pulled Hank back. What none of them knew was that Jordan was outside with Kim and Sean, they heard the yelling and went around.

Jordan had heard Antonio's words and they punched her in the gut hard. Tears had started falling from her eyes. Seeing his daughter upset and crying because of what his senior detective had said made him more furious but for his daughter's sake he didn't let it show.

He went over to her after getting out of Kevin and Alvin's hold, he didn't say a word to his team. The older man just walked to his daughter and guided her away to their car. Jordan didn't know what to say, she never once saw a fight like that escalate between her father or anyone on the team.

They walked over to the car when Hank stopped and saw a woman with a child. It was Olivia Benson and her son, Noah.
