*Picks up from previous chapter. You may need tissues*
She wanted to wipe the tears but couldn't, Jordan was taken away and had a shower to get all the blood off. She was put into a gown and Will went to examine her. The young doctor had taken a light and looked for any wounds.
Her back was clear of any and all injuries, her back was clean he started looking over her legs, they were started doing her arms and hands. He noticed something on her hand.
"Jo, what happened here" Will saw what looked like a small cut on her palm.
"A piece of glass cut me" She knew where he was going with this. "Will please, I need you to promise me. You guys will look after my dad"
"You're not dying today Jordan. You're not dying for a very long time, you faced death before and came back. I know you're scared honey but today is not the day you die"
What Will wouldn't do to hold her and comfort her at this time, Jordan had just cried. She knew she was as good as dead with this deadly bacteria strain. It would be a matter of time.
"Will..Will please. Please I need you to promise you guys will look after my dad. I need to know he'll be in good hands when I'm gone" Her voice cracked.
The young doctor had bent down to look her in the eyes, it was clear she was terrified but he also saw something else in her eye. She wasn't ready to give up.
"Jo the only promise I'm making is that today, you're not gonna die. I will do everything in my power to make you better and you'll go back to your dad. Alive and healthy. That is my only promise"
Jordan was taken from the room and placed in quarantine, Will had gone out to see Sharon and Ethan with a woman. Sharon had seen Will looking very upset.
"What's wrong?" Sharon asked.
"The patient that was just brought in, it's Jordan. There's a chance she could have gotten infected" Will explained, his voice full of pain. He still heard Jordan's pleads in his head.
"Oh no. I'll call Hank and tell him"
Will looked and saw the woman and gave a small smile. "Hi Andrea"
"Will Halstead?" Andrea replied with a small smile.
After the quick introductions they had started talking about the containment and treat, once that had been done Andrea had looked to Will again to see the sad painful look on his face. She had gone to him.
"Lost another one?" She asked.
"Not quite," He answered. "My last patient, Jordan, I've known her since she was 11. She may have gotten infected"
"That's terrible. How do you know her?"
"She's my brother's boss's kid. We often keep an eye on her. Jordan is a sweet kid, sweet as can be but stings like a scorpion. She hadn't had an easy life, her mom died when she was a baby, her brother died a few years back that just about killed her. She spiraled badly out of control, she used, drank, self harmed, she almost died. Eventually she got clean and sober. Then she kept losing people, these two people she thought of as sisters, Lexi Olinsky and Erin Lindsay. Lexi died from injuries in a fire. Erin got a new job with the Feds in New York. Right after that her boyfriend at the time, Derek broke up with her. And then her godfather, Alvin Olinsky died, he was stabbed. And now her current boyfriend, Mason, died from the bacteria outbreak. Jordan thinks she's gonna die and instead of trying to fight, it's like she's giving up. Like she's done"
Andrea was just about in tears when Will finished. She knew Will was holding something back. "There's more instead there?"
He gave a nod. "She pretty much begged me to make her a promise. The promise was to make sure her father was looked after if she dies"
"That poor girl"
"I can be the liaison with whatever you need. I'm gonna be checking on Jordan often"
"I understand completely"
Sharon was in her office making the call to Hank. "Hank, it's Sharon. Listen I have something to tell you. Jordan was brought in a while ago. There's a chance she may have been infected"
Meanwhile
Hank was on the phone with Sharon, he just about fell when he heard his daughter could have been infected. No. No. He could very well lose his little girl. She was the only thing that had kept him going, the only reason he now lived her, he was nothing. He'd be broken the same way she was.
"Sarge? Everything alright" Adam said cautiously, not wanting to piss him off from the look in his eyes.
"Jordan...may have gotten infected" He breathed out.
That had caused everyone to freeze in their places. No. It couldn't another word Hank ran out going to the hospital. Will, Ethan and Andrea had to go evacuate a building that had multiple patients and could be ground zero. Will was very nervous about leaving Jordan, he knew she was in good hands but he made a promise he would make her better.
"Will," Ethan said, suiting up. "Jordan's going to be fine"
"She wants me to make her a promise Ethan. I just don't know if I can do it" Will replied to his friend, putting on his own suit.
"She'll make it. I promise"
Upstairs, Jordan was changed into a brown scrub shirt and the matching pants, she was placed right next to Hailey in a confined space. When the blonde detective saw her she just about froze.
"Jordan what..how did you get here?" Hailey spoke.
"I really don't wanna talk about it" Jordan mumbled.
Rushing into the room was a worried and panicked Hank. "Jordan!"
Turning hearing her father she was about to run out but got stopped by the plastic covering. "Daddy"
Going over to his daughter Jordan had put her hand on the plastic and Hank put his hand where his daughter's hand was. The older father had pressed his forehead against the plastic covering and the teen pressed her forehead against it.
"I'm sorry daddy. I'm so sorry"
"Shh whatever it is you did, I don't care about right now. All I care about is you"
"I screwed up again"
"Hey shh. I'm right here. You're gonna be alright. I know you will be"
Jordan closed her eyes tightly, this was seriously gonna hurt. It would hurt badly.
"Daddy, I just wanted you to know that you were the best father I could have ever asked for. No matter what I did, no matter who much I screwed up, you were always there when I needed you. You loved me through everything"
Hank felt tears run down his eyes and cheeks, Jay and Hailey watched tears of their own falling. Jordan was truly giving up. She was done. She had no more fight in her. It was gone. That fire, that passion, she once had was gone.
"Jo Jo" Hank choked out. "Don't give up baby. Keep fighting. You still have everything in life ahead of you"
"I don't know if I can. I fought so much. I don't know if I have anymore in me"
"You do, I know you do. You're a fighter, you fought through hell before. You can do it again. You're a Voight. But you're also a Carter. You have your mother's courageous attitude, you have her strength, you have her heart of gold. You are you're mother's daughter"
More tears ran down their faces, Jay and Hailey were getting choked up. Hank was trying to rebuild Jordan's strength. He was trying to get her to fight again, rebuild her fire and passion.
"What if…" Jordan couldn't finish it.
"You won't die"
She nodded against the plastic she very gently kissed the plastic covering, as if she was trying to kiss his cheek. Hank kissed the plastic as if he was trying to kiss her forehead.
"I love you daddy"
"I love you too my baby girl"
"Dad, can I have a moment with Jay please"
He sniffed and nodded. "Of course" He then looked at Hailey. "You look after my daughter"
"Absolutely Sarge" Hailey nodded.
Hank left giving his detective a moment with his daughter, Jay had looked at Jordan with tears. A lump in his throat when he saw her.
"I should have came to get you Jordy. This is my fault" Jay choked up.
"Don't you dare blame yourself Jay. This is on me. I went to a bar wanting to drink instead I destroyed it. Someone pulled me back. I got covered with their blood. Anyway that's not the point. I need to talk to you Jay"
"You're not dying Jordan, not today"
"You don't know that. Will wouldn't make me this promise. I'm asking you to make me this promise"
Jay raised his head, his blue eyes glossed with tears. "What promise?"
"When I die, I need you and everyone to look after my dad. He's gonna need someone to help him get through it. You tell him it's ok to move on and be happy. If he ever finds happiness again tell him it's ok. We'll be ok. I'll be ok. I'll be with my mom and Justin again, I'll even be with Camille. Tell him that for me please"
The young detective had bit his lip to keep the sobs in. He couldn't believe what he was hearing.
"Jay please, he needs someone to look after him and tell him that for me please. It's the only thing I'm asking" She held up her hand on the plastic.
He carefully placed his hand on the plastic where hers was and he nodded. "I promise"
"Thank you. You're one of the best brothers I've ever had. You've been there with me through thick and thin. You helped me with my sobriety after Erin left. I owe you a lot Jay"
"You don't owe me anything Jordy, just get better"
"Um one more thing. If you or anyone can ever get a hold of Erin again, tell her she was the best sister I've ever had"
Jay could just feel the dam of tears ready to burst, the teen was pulling at his heart strings. "I will"
He kissed the plastic as if he was kissing her forehead. He then left. Hailey was in tears as she looked over to the teen. In all her time being a cop she never once saw someone this prepared to face death and already say their final words.
"Jo, you know we're gonna get out of this" Hailey says.
"What if we don't Hailey?" Jordan choked out. "Once when I was seven my dad was shot in the field, I was being a brat about a bike, I told my dad I hated him. I thought my dad was gonna die knowing I hated him. After my brother died, you heard the stories I spiraled out of control. I almost killed myself because I was consumed with so much anger and grief I didn't care if I had died. I wanted to be with my mom and brother again. I never once considered my dad's feelings at that time. Now I am"
"Don't give up Jordan. Never give up"
"I'm not giving up, I'm facing reality. People are dying from this. We could be next"
The blonde couldn't believe what she was hearing, this wasn't like Jordan at all. Natalie had come up to check on Jordan, she told Will she'd look after Jordan and give him any and all kinds of updates.
"Alright Jo, from Will's notes you had just a small cut on your hand. How are you feeling? Any numbness, tingling, anything" Natalie spoke softly.
"Nope" Jordan replied, still emotionless.
"Talk to me, what's going on?"
"What's going on? I could die today, I may never see my dad again, I already said what could have been my last words to him, and I'm stuck in a giant ass bubble awaiting death! That's what's going on" She stopped taking a deep breath. "I'm sorry, I was out of line. I didn't mean to. I'm just very on edge right now"
"It's totally and completely understandable"
"I don't wanna die but then I do"
"Oh honey. If you want I can have Dr. Charles come over"
"Could you?"
"Absolutely"
She then went to check on Hailey, Dr. Charles was talking to a woman from the apartment complex. She definitely sounded psychotic. Jordan just looked around scared. She didn't wanna be here. She wanted to be with her father.
Will was still out with the others at the apartment complex, Natalie had just sent him an update about Jordan. He sighed in relief a bit.
"What is it?" Andrea asked.
"Jordan seems to be ok, but she still wants to give up" Will replied.
"Jo will eventually come around. She's strong" Kevin said coming up the stairs.
"You didn't hear her Kevin, she sounded done"
Kevin shook it off and brought them to the basement when they found something. Hank went back to the hospital needing to question the tenants. Both Sharon and Dr. Charles didn't think it was a good idea. Eventually Hank and Dr. Charles came to an agreement.
They went to the floor, when Jordan saw her father she shot up. "Daddy"
Hank without hesitation went to his daughter. "Jo Jo, it's gonna be alright. I promise"
"I'm scared"
He pressed his forehead against the plastic. "I know you are. I am too. You're gonna be just fine. I promise"
"I wanna go home"
"I know baby I know"
Hailey and Hank had gotten out the tent to go question the tenants, Jordan was slowly going stir crazy. Dr. Charles had stayed back with her to talk.
"Wanna talk about what's on your mind?" He asked the teen.
"I'm trapped in a bubble possibly awaiting death and I may never get out and see my dad again"
"Once we know what we're dealing with we'll work on treating you all"
"My boyfriend, Mason died from this. Just another person I loved gone. I don't know if I have the fight in me anymore. I..I'm done. I can't fight anymore"
"I don't think that's true. You've come a very long way. You've fought your whole life. You fought battle after battle. You can't stop now"
"Why not?"
"It's not who you are. You fought a lot Jordan. You overcame not having a mother in life, when your father went to jail when you were a kid, you fought and overcame Yates you fought to get back to yourself after that" This next part was gonna hurt but she needed to hear it. "After you're brother, Justin died and after everything you did. You eventually fought through your addictions. You got clean, sober, you stopped self harming. I know that you had some times where you wanted to fall but you never did, because that's not who you are. The Jordan Voight we know, she never gives up, no matter how hard life gets. She fights and she fights hard, she grabs the fight by force and works through it because that's who she is"
The teen looked down, feeling more tears. Everything he said was right. That's who she was.
"He's right" Came another voice, it was a man's voice. It was her uncle, Josh.
Looking up she gasped seeing her uncle. "Josh"
"Don't give up honey. Never give up. Everyone says that you're Hank's daughter but you're also Anna's. I see your mother in you every way possible. You have her looks, her brains, her courage, her strength, her bravery, your so much like your mother"
She choked on a sob. "I'm scared"
"It's alright to be scared" Dr. Charles told her. "This is a very scary time, but you don't have to give up"
"I'll be right here with you the whole time" Josh told his niece.
The teen looked to the psychiatrist. "Can he? Please"
"I'm sure we can make that happen" Dr. Charles gave a nod.
"Can I be inside with her?" Josh asked.
"I'm sorry but we can't risk infecting you as well"
Josh nodded and understood. Hailey had gone back to her tent when she saw the man with Jordan she had raised an eye and gotten suspicious. She promised Hank that she would keep an eye on her.
"Hey, who are you?" Hailey asked Josh.
"Hailey it's fine, it's alright. I know him. He's my uncle. My mom's brother, his name is Josh" Jordan told her. "He's good"
The blonde detective stood down and took a breath. "So Josh, what do you do?"
"I'm in construction. I came back to Chicago last year to reconnect with Jordan and Hank. I'm moving my business down here to be closer to them"
"That's good. The stuff I heard about Anna, she sounds really special and great"
"She was. Her smile could light up a room"
Jordan had given a smile, when she smiled Josh knew he saw his sister.
"Just like that"
Just then one of the tenants from the building started to panic seeing his arm heavily bruised and possibly infected, he was quickly taken out and rushed out. When Jordan had seen it she panicked.
"No...No.. I...I gotta get out of here" Jordan started to panic.
"Jo, Jo you've gotta calm down relax" Josh told his niece calmly.
"Jordan, it's alright relax. We don't know what's going on with him yet" Hailey says.
"I've gotta get out of here! I...I can't breathe" She was sending herself into a panic attack.
"Jordan you've gotta relax and take a few deep breaths" Josh says softly.
When she sat down she started to control her breathing, she pulled some of the shirt up and wiped her eyes of the tears.
"I don't wanna die" She cried. "I want my dad. I wanna go home"
"It's gonna be fine, you will be alright" Hailey comforted her.
Josh had pulled his phone out and video called Hank. Hank was just finishing talking to Jay when his phone rang. He was a bit stunned when he saw it was Josh.
"Josh, what's wrong? Is everything alright" Hank answered.
"Jordan wants to see you" Was all Josh said.
Without a word Josh turned the phone to his niece. "Jo, it's for you"
She looked up and saw her father. "Daddy"
"What's wrong sweet girl" His voice was soft.
"I don't wanna die. I wanna go home"
"I know Jo Jo, if I could be there with you I would"
"Can you come soon"
"I'll try my best honey"
"I love you daddy"
"I love you too baby"
Soon the patients had started to get out of control, it was making Jordan's anxiety skyrocket. Josh looked to his niece.
"Jo, honey keep your eyes on me and Hailey. We won't let anything happen to you" Josh told her.
"Josh is right, keep your focus on us. I promised you're father I'd protect you and I will" Hailey says next.
"I'm scared" Pure fear and anxiety had filled her voice.
"Were right here"
Soon the patients had started escaping, Josh steer cleared to avoid getting hit and trampled. Jordan watched with wide fearful eyes as they started to escape.
"Hey, kid, it's alright we're staying put. It's safer for us in here than out there" Hailey tried to keep her calm.
Jordan sat on the bed trying to calm down and control her breathing. Josh couldn't stand it he went to find something to suit up in he was gonna be with his niece. Natalie had come to see Hailey.
"Hailey, good news, your cultures came back and you have no sign of infection" Natalie told her. "Your good to go"
"That's good" She glanced at the teen huddled up on the bed then back to the doctor. "What about Jordan?"
"Her cultures are still being tested, no word yet"
"Her uncle, Josh is here. Can he stay with her?"
"Of course"
Josh had come back a few minutes later suited up, when Hailey stepped out of her tent she looked to Jordan.
"Jordan, I have to go back to work now. You'll be alright with Josh. I'll give your dad an update on you" Hailey told the teen.
"Take me with you Hailey, I wanna see my dad" Jordan just about pleaded.
"Honey you can't' Natalie tells her.
"I want to see my dad please"
"He can come here but you can't get out"
Jordan sighed in frustration. She had started to flex her hand, shaking it. Natalie went in. "Jo talk to me"
"My hand, it's numb"
Natalie turned her hand and saw it, the skin was red with purple in the middle. The young doctor had then called for a wheelchair. Jordan started to panic as they put her on the wheelchair.
"I want my dad, someone call my dad please" She begged.
"Already on it" Josh was already calling Hank.
Hank was finishing getting a lead when he saw Josh call. -What's wrong?
-Hank, Jordan said he hand felt numb, they took her to get checked out. She's asking for you.
The older father felt his heart sink to his gut without a word to anyone he left the district and went to the hospital. During Jordan's MRI they noticed something in her hand. When they got her out she had felt a sharp pain, Natalie had ran in.
"Jo talk to me honey"
"I felt like a real sharp pain in my hand"
Natalie had then called to the other doctor for an OR and an isolation gurney. They rushed Jordan through the ED.
"I'm gonna die aren't I?" Jordan just about cried.
"No, you're not gonna die"
Hank had ran in seeing his daughter, when the teen spotted her father she tried to reach for him but the plastic stopped her.
"Daddy. Daddy I'm scared. I don't wanna die" She cried.
"It's gonna be fine baby, you won't die. I have faith that you won't" Hank assured his scared daughter.
The older father had followed them, Jordan leaned against the plastic casing wanting to feel her father's warm touch. The same familiar touch that always comforted her when she needed it. Hank pressed against the plastic trying to give his daughter some comfort.
When they got to the OR Natalie had to hold him back so Jordan could go into surgery. That was the final straw for Hank in this case. Whoever was responsible for this outbreak they were as good as dead. It got his baby girl. Balling up his fists tight he turned, he went to find Josh.
Josh was pacing in the waiting area, Hank had gone to him. "Josh, I gotta go work the case. Let me know anything about Jordan's surgery"
"Of course"
"Thank you for being with her when I couldn't"
"Just find the bastard who did this"
"You bet I will"
The older father had headed back to the district, a scowl on his face. He was gonna hunt this son of a bitch down and put a bullet in their skull. Hearing his daughter's voice in his head, her saying she didn't wanna die. It played over and over like a loop in his head.
When he arrived back at the district he stormed upstairs, Trudy knew that was never a good sign. Something had to have happened to Jordan. And she knew it. The Intelligence unit had seen their boss and immediately noticed the scowl on his face.
If they had to guess, it was Jordan something happened. They were all too scared and anxious to say anything without wanting to piss him off any more than he already is.
"Let me be very clear, crystal clear about this. When we find the son of a bitch responsible. He's to be passed off to me" Hank told them sharply.
"Sarge, is..is Jordan alright?" Adam asked.
"She was just rushed into surgery for her hand"
They all felt their throats tighten not liking this, one thing they all knew for certain if Jordan died. That would be the end for Hank. Hank stormed off to his office and slammed the door making them all jump.
Going through his desk he found some old pictures he started going through them. When he found one of Anna holding Jordan he smiled softly. Something wet had landed on the picture, a tear. Hank was crying.
"Anna, Justin, please. Please. Watch over for Jordan for me. Don't let her go. It's not her time yet" He whispered softly.
Meanwhile
Jordan was in surgery, Natalie watching she was texting Will what was going on. Marcel was working on her hand. During the surgery Jordan's mind started to wander.
*Dream*
Jordan was on a beach. It was sunny, warm, the water crashed against the sand soaking her feet. It was peaceful. She looked around not seeing anyone.
"Hello? Where am I?" She called out.
She started walking when she noticed a tall man fishing. She went to him.
"Hey! You mind telling me where we are?"
The man turned and called back. "My little Jo Jo"
Jordan knew that voice anywhere. It was her brother, Justin.
"Justin" She ran to him. "Justie" She hugged her brother tightly.
He picked her up effortlessly and held her close. "What are you doing here? It's not your time yet"
"You wouldn't believe me if I told you"
"Your so grown up"
"You can say that"
"I'm proud of you"
"What for?"
"What you did at the bar, you were tempted to drink but you didn't. You realize Pop will find out what you did though right?"
"Most likely" She chuckled. "Where are we?"
"I'm pretty sure you've been to a beach before"
She chuckled. "Still the same old sarcastic self"
"Were on your beach. You could say this is the weigh station"
"Weigh station for what?"
"If you wanna go back to dad or stay with us"
"Us? There's more of you guys?"
"Of course, why wouldn't there be?"
"My beautiful baby girl" Came a soft, warm voice.
Hearing the voice Jordan slowly had turned and gasped holding back a sob.
"M-M-mom?"
…..
I tried to have the rest of it finished here but I have to stop and finish the rest of the cross over, I'm now on the PD portion of it. If I don't get to it this week I'll try and post it this weekend. Happy reading!
