*Dream*
When Jordan turned to hear the soft, warm voice, the teen couldn't believe her eyes.
"M-M-mom?"
Anna smiled softly seeing her daughter. "My sweet baby girl"
When the teen ran to hug her mother it was as if a force held her back from doing so, she looked with a shocked frown.
"Why can't I hug you?"
"Because then that means you've decided on your choice"
Her heart broke. "You mean if I hug you or touch you in anyway, I die?"
"Yes baby"
"I wanna be with you and Justin more than anything. But I'm not ready to leave dad"
"I understand. You're the best thing that ever happened to him"
"Y-you really think so?"
"I know that to be a true fact" Justin said.
The scene changed, Jordan was alone this time she was in the hospital watching Marcel work on her hand trying to get the bacteria from her hand. She had looked at her unconscious body. Soon she had started singing.
"We'll do it all
Everything
On our own
We don't need
Anything
Or anyone
If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?"
The scene had changed again, Jordan wasn't in the operating room anymore. This time she was in her father's office. Hank was barely holding it together. Before he knew it he destroyed his desk and let out a frustrated scream.
Hank threw something against the wall, it was an old coffee mug and it shattered. He fell back against the wall crying. He was trying to stay strong for his little girl but he knew how deadly this virus was. Jordan was all he had left. Slowly he fell against the floor breaking down in sobs, his body shook.
The teen had sat beside her father and leaned against him, she knew he wouldn't feel it but it helped her feel some comfort. She wrapped her arms around him feeling her own fears and anxiety again. She had continued singing as tears fell down her eyes.
"I don't quite know
How to say
How I feel
Those three words
Are said too much
They're not enough
If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?
Forget what we're told
Before we get too old
Show me a garden that's bursting into life
Let's waste time
Chasing cars"
After being with her father the teen was then in the squad room, the team working effortlessly trying to find the bastard. She walked towards them all starting with Jay.
"Around our heads
I need your grace
To remind me
To find my own
If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?"
Jay was going through his computer looking for something, anything, his eyes glanced at a small picture on his desk. It was a gift Jordan had given him. It was a picture of him, Jordan, and Erin at Navy Pier. The teen was on Jay's back as Erin stood next to them. He muttered something about keeping his promise. Jordan hugged him from behind.
Slowly she had walked to Adam next, the two were just about inseparable. Partners in crime. Best friends. Adam felt alone. He had Kevin, his best friend. But Jordan was special. She was like his little sister. Someone to pull pranks on, joke around with. The squad would be dark without her spirit.
Next she had gone to Kevin, he had always seen the young Voight as his kid sister. He had his brother and sister then he had Jordan. He remembered being on patrol with Kim, whenever Hank was in the field he and Kim always watched her for him and Trudy.
The teen went to Kim, she was like Erin. Another older sister. Growing up with an overprotective father and older brother, she wanted a sister more than anything. And she gained Erin and Kim. Whenever Hank needed girl advice and he couldn't get Trudy, he'd ask Kim.
Finally she had gone to Hailey, it was always hard to connect with Hailey. AT first she had felt the blonde replaced her sister. She had kept her distance for a while but slowly she opened up and let her vulnerable side show.
The teen then walked down the stairs and went to her godmother, Trudy. She rounded the desk like she did a million times as a kid. She pretty much spent half her childhood behind Trudy's desk or in Hank's office. Trudy had been in a very sour mood since hearing about her goddaughter. She was snippy with all her patrol officers. They knew she hadn't meant it. Jordan hugged her with all her might.
"Forget what we're told
Before we get too old
Show me a garden that's bursting into life
All that I am
All that I ever was
Is here in your perfect eyes, they're all I can see
I don't know where
Confused about how as well"
This time Jordan wasn't in Chicago anymore. This time she was in New York. She was in an apartment she didn't recognize. She was confused. As she looked around she saw a woman on the couch with dark hair with some blonde. As she rounded and saw the woman, her face fell. It was Erin.
Erin was crying, Jay had called and told her what happened to Jordan and what Jordan's final words had been. On the table in front of Erin were 3 empty beer bottles. Not being able to take it Erin got up and went to her room and started packing a suitcase.
"Just know that these things will never change for us at all
If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?"
Finally Jordan was in a cemetery, she stood in front of two graves. Anna's and Justin's. Looking to the night sky she felt the wind as it blew. Closing her eyes she knew she had to make a choice and she knew what she was going to do.
Meanwhile
Hank and the others were at the district, they were still trying to track Seldon. Josh had called about Jordan. Somehow she went into shock during surgery and she was in critical condition. Hank just about lost it. He went to be with his daughter.
Jay and Hailey were approaching a house, and Jay's nextel had gone off. "Go for Halstead"
"Jay, it's me man. Jo's not in good shape man. She went into shock during surgery. They don't know if she's gonna be ok" Adam's voice came through.
The two stopped feeling their hearts drop and glanced at each other, this would push Hank off the deep end if anything happened to Jordan.
"Keep us updated Ruz"
"Will do"
Hailey shook her head. "She was so ready to give up when we were in quarantine"
"I know she won't. It's not who she is"
They got to the house and banged on the door, there wasn't an answer. Hailey had spotted blood on the floor. Jay had pulled his gun and kicked the door in. The house was empty when they checked the basement they found a bunker with Seldon's ex wife, Carrie. They brought her in for questioning.
Over at Med, Sharron was telling Will about them getting the antibiotics from another hospital.
"That's great, I'll start helping get prepared" Will said.
"Will do you have a moment?" Sharon said, this had to come from her.
"Of course what is it?"
"I just spoke with Dr. Marcel, while Jordan was in surgery for her hand. She went into shock, her condition is critical"
The older Halstead looked at his boss with wide shocked eyes, no. Was..was this it for Jordan? He felt a kick to the gut. He now regrets not making that promise to her.
"Ms. Goodwin, I have to see Hank. I have to. Jordan wanted me to tell him something"
"Of course"
The older Halstead went to find Hank, Hank and Josh were in the waiting area. Something in Hank's head told him to mentally prepare himself if he was gonna lose his baby girl. And that's what he was was just as nervous, Jordan was all he had left of his sister. They had just reconnected and made up. And now this happened.
Will saw the two men and went over to them. "Hank, Josh, I just heard about Jordan. I'm sorry for what you both are going through"
The two simply nodded, Will knew this had to come out, he pulled Hank to the side. The older man looked worried.
"Hank, Jordan asked me to promise her something. At the time it was something I couldn't promise. I'm keeping it. She wanted me to promise that you'll be looked after if she.." He didn't dare finish. He couldn't.
Hank dropped to his knees crying, even before her possibility of death all she cared about was her father's well being. Making sure he was looked after and taken care of. Will bent down and hugged the older father. This was killing them all.
Marcel was checking something when his pager had gone off for Jordan, her monitors were flatlining. Natalie was doing compressions until Marcel had run in. They ordered another milligram of epi and went back to compressions they shocked her heart but nothing. They tried again. Nothing.
Now they were getting freaked out, Hank was right downstairs and his daughter was dying a few floors up. Then when they tried again they got a heartbeat again. The two doctors sighed in relief. They had given the nurses orders on what to do for Jordan.
Will was outside the room he heard Marcel tell the young teen it's going to be ok. He went into the room, he swallowed the lump in his throat.
"How is she?" Will asked.
"I don't know. I ordered more tests to see what's going on" Marcel responded.
"I wanna be apart of this"
"You sure that's wise?"
"Marcel, I've known that girl since she was just about 12. I've watched that girl grow up, she became mine and Jay's family. I've watched her go through harder times than this. I'm on her case"
Marcel wasn't in the mood to fight he just walked past him, Will went in and carefully took her good hand in his and with his other hand he gently stroked her hair back.
"You're gonna be just fine sweetheart. Jo, I'm gonna keep that promise you asked me. If anything happens to you. You have my absolute word, your father will be looked after. We will all take care of him and look after him for you. I still remember the first day I met you, you were this sweet little girl and now you're a young woman that stings like a scorpion. Don't give up honey. Just don't. You have a whole lot of fight in you, I know you do. Just keep fighting"
Jordan laid on the bed as an oxygen mask was over her nose and mouth helping her breathe. Her mind was wondering again.
*Dream*
Jordan was once on the beach again, it was so warm. So perfect. She could live there forever. All she would have to do was make a decision. A very difficult decision. The teen just looked into the horizon. Another wave came and crashed and soaked her feet.
"Nice outfit, you always did have a good sense of fashion" Came a voice, this time it belonged to a girl.
Before Jordan could say something she turned and was shocked, it was Lexi Olinsky. The girl she had considered her cousin.
"Lexi" Jordan says, completely shocked. "Oh my god, it's been forever" She hugged her tightly.
Lexi had hugged her back. "You're not supposed to be here yet"
"I know. I did something stupid"
"I could tell. Destroying a bar. Nice one"
"Not my best work but yeah. I miss you"
"I know. I know my death almost killed you, it was too soon after Justin"
"It wasn't your fault. You fought as hard as you could"
"I want you to fight Jordan. Fight as hard as you can. Your a fighter Jo"
"I was so ready to give up, but I found that fight in me again. I'm a Voight. We don't give up. We don't back down from fights"
"Sounds like a true Voight" Came another voice, this time it was a man's voice.
When Jordan turned it was Alvin, he had his signature hat, he hadn't changed. He was even still chewing a toothpick like he always did.
"Uncle Alvin" She said, tears pooling in her eyes. She hugged him tightly.
"You've grown so much"
"I miss you all so much"
"We know. It's not your time. You've gotta go back. You're the only one to keep your dad in line"
The teen had let out a small chuckle. "That is true. I'm so torn. I don't wanna leave my dad but I don't wanna leave you guys"
"Does that mean you're staying?" Lexi asked.
The young Voight looked between the two.
While
Hank went back, he was infuriated. Adam was interrogating the ex wife, Hank stormed in. He started slamming down pictures. The last one was of Jordan.
"This girl, she's 17 she's about to graduate high school. This is my daughter. Your ex husband is responsible" Hank said sharply.
Adam was staying back, the way his boss was in a mood and Jordan was on the verge of death. He wasn't getting any backlash.
"I'm telling you he couldn't do this" She said, her voice shaking full of nervousness.
"You fired at police, I will hold you, I will charge you, I will incarcerate you. My patience is gone. I'm going to only ask you once, did your husband tell you anything before he left?"
She had stayed quiet feeling more scared and nervous, Hank lost it. "Did he?!"
"Yes! Yes he did. I asked him why he was leaving, he said he wasn't. He said that he wasn't done yet, he had more work to do"
"Okay,'' Hank looked to his officer. "I need a list of everything you're husband may have taken from you're home or your storage"
After getting what they needed from the ex wife they went back out. Hank's phone rang and he stopped to answer.
-Josh, how is she? Hank asked, seeing it was Josh.
-It looks like she's doing better.
-Thank god. Are you with her?
-They still won't let me. I'm watching her from outside the room.
-Please keep an eye on her.
-Of course.
Hank hung up, he pulled out a picture of his daughter. She was happy, healthy, safe. Just the way she should be. Not laying in the hospital on the verge of death because of a bacteria outbreak. This son of a bitch was going to pay.
Chicago Med
All Josh could do was watch helplessly as his niece laid in the bed. She was improving. Which meant she was fighting. She was in fact the daughter of both her parents. Both were strong, both were courageous, both were fighters. Jordan may have had her mother's looks, she had Hank's fiery attitude and temper. She was the perfect combination of the two.
As she laid on the bed her body fought to make some sort of movement, she didn't care, a twitch of her finger. Hell she'd settle for waking up. But she didn't, her mind continued to wonder.
*Dream*
Jordan loved the beach, it was sunny and warm. God she could live there. No crime. No criminals chasing her. Nothing but peace and quiet. The only thing missing was her family. She missed them more than anything. She missed her father most of all, she felt she needed him but he couldn't help her in the afterlife.
"It is very beautiful here" Came a soft, warm voice. This time it was a woman.
"It is yeah" Jordan didn't recognize the voice, when she turned she couldn't help but freeze in her spot.
Her mouth dropped in shock, how.. How was this possible? It was Hank's first wife and her brother's mother, Camille Voight.
"Aren't you.." She couldn't make it out.
"I'm Camille"
"Justin looks so much like you"
She gave a small chuckle. "He looked more like his father than me. Sure acted like him at times. I wanna thank you Jordan"
"May I ask what for?"
"You helped Hank and Justin move on. After I died, they were both in bad and dark times. I thought they were gone to the point of no return. But when Hank had met your mother, she restored his happiness. All I wanted was for them to be happy and when you were born, you were the light they needed. I'd never seen Justin so happy before. You opened his heart back up. As for Hank, you completed him. The moment you were placed in his arms you made him who he was. I'll always be grateful Jordan"
She had felt tears falling from her eyes. "My dad and Justin told me stories about you. I wish I had gotten a chance to meet you. You've done a great job with them. I hope you never thought me or my mom could ever replace you. You're irreplaceable like my mom is"
"I'm glad you were able to be there and help my two boys"
"They would do the same thing for me. They have done the same thing for me. I'd do anything for them"
"Hank still needs you, without you he'll break. He's been broken enough for one lifetime. It's completely alright if you wanna go back to them. They're you're family just as much as we all are"
She looked to Camille with tears. "Y-you consider me family?"
"Of course. You're Hank's daughter. That makes you my family as well. I love you as if you were my own"
Jordan felt tears falling from her eyes, she felt a hand on her shoulder. It was familiar but couldn't place it when she turned it was a man but it wasn't Alvin or her brother. It was Richard, her grandfather. He had died years before she was born.
"Grandpa" Jordan had choked out.
"My little Jordan" He said softly, brushing her hair back. He wiped her tears away. "It's not your time you've gotta go back. You've always made it your mission to carry on the Voight name. I have faith that you will. You and Daniel will carry the Voight name down the line for years to come"
She choked up hearing her nephew's name. "I will. I'll carry the Voight name and it will live on"
"That's my girl"
She closed her eyes feeling tears fall, she had felt a warm hand on her cheek. Opening her brown watery eyes she saw her mother in front of her placing a soft hand on her cheek.
"Don't leave me momma. Please" Jordan pleaded with her mother.
"I'll always be looking over you and you're father. I'm right here" Anna pointed to Jordan's heart.
"You're beautiful. Dad and Josh were right. I look so much like you"
"And you act just like your father"
She gave a small chuckle as a small sob came out. "Wait, I thought if I touched you. I would die"
"I made an exception for my baby girl"
"C-can I hug you?"
"I would love nothing more than that"
Jordan threw her arms around her mother and hugged her tightly, she started to cry freely. Anna had just held her daughter close and softly stroked her hair. She had kissed her daughter's head softly.
"I love you my sweet baby girl"
"I...I love you too mommy"
When Jordan opened her eyes her mother was gone. Everyone was gone. She was alone. The teen had made her decision.
Elsewhere
Hank and the team had found out that Seldon had been paying for a loft and they went to go check it out. Right before Hank had gotten out of his car he pulled a picture of Anna and Jordan out.
"Anna please, I need you. Watch over our little girl for me. She's all I have left of you. I can't lose her. Please. Keep her safe. Watch her. I love you both" He whispered to himself.
He put it back and went to his team and the group of officers, he told them about Seldon, he mentioned the safety precautions and all. Soon they moved to go bust in the loft.
Eventually after more investigating they had found Seldon and they found a cure for the bacteria strain. Fire and PD had evacuated the building where Seldon was. Jay was with him, he kept his phone on as a direct line to Hank. Hank was trying to fight his emotions. He wanted this bastard dead. He killed so many innocent people and his baby girl was on the verge of death yet again, this time it was this son of a bitch's doing.
Seldon had forced Jay to cut his arm and he kicked him a bottle of the bacteria in a spray bottle. Just as the young detective was about to spray it on the open wound on his arm there was a shot that startled him with that Hank took this moment to break the door in and take Seldon down and fired his gun 3 times shooting and killing him.
Will had ran in to check on his brother and checked for a pulse on Seldon, there wasn't one. The sick bastard was dead. Now that was over Hank was going to the hospital to check on his baby girl.
After breaking every traffic law to get to Med, Hank had finally arrived and went up to his daughter's room. Josh was still outside the room, Marcel was checking on her again. Hank ran over.
"How is she?" Hank asked worriedly.
"They're just checking on her" Josh replied, just as worried. "They say it does look good though. She's strong. A fighter"
"She's Anna's daughter for sure"
"That she is"
Marcel was running a flashlight across Jordan's eyes, after he was done she started to stir.
"Jordan? Jordan, it's Dr. Marcel"
"W...w...where's...my..dad?" She asked very weakly.
Marcel signed for Hank and Josh to enter the room. "They're right here kiddo"
Hank smiled softly down at his baby girl. "Hey sweetheart"
"D..d...daddy" She smiled weakly but softly.
"Hey honey" Josh spoke softly, a smile of his own.
"Josh"
The teen looked at her father. "Did..did you get him?"
"We did. He's dead"
"And everyone is safe?"
"Everyone is safe. Jay got injured but he's fine"
"What happened to Jay?"
"Sweetie don't worry about it. He's fine, he didn't get infected. All you need to worry about is getting better"
She looked at her wrapped up hand, she tried to make a fist but her hand was still too weak.
"Don't try that you could hurt your hand more" Will told her from the door.
Jordan smiled seeing the older Halstead, Jay was right behind his brother. The others didn't wanna overwhelm her by visiting her at once. Hank knew his daughter wanted to see the others slowly. He and Josh stepped out to give them some privacy.
The two brothers had gone over to the young teen, each sat on either side of her.
"How ya feeling kiddo" Jay said.
"My hand hurts like hell" She answered. She glanced at Will and saw a part of his head was stitched up. "What happened to you"
"Let's just say a microscope met my head" Will joked lightly.
"He got hit over the head with a microscope" Jay told the teen.
The teen looked at the red head. "Will, word of advice. Duck"
The two brothers had chuckled, she then looked at Jay. "Now what did you do. My dad said you were injured but didn't get infected"
"We found Seldon, I cut my arm and he tried to make me spray the bacteria on the cut"
"Please don't ever do something that crazy again"
"I won't"
Jordan had glanced to Will and back to her bed. "Thank you for keeping the promise. I..I should have never made you promise something like that. I was just scared"
"How did.."
"I heard you. I'm sorry if I forced you both to make a promise like that. I shouldn't have, I was just scared"
"Jo" Jay started softly, taking her good hand. "You and your dad will always have family with us. Josh too. We look out for each other. You'll never be alone, your dad will never be alone, Josh will never be alone. You have all of us. You have Will and I. Were family"
The two brothers had hugged her and kissed her head softly, Jordan leaned into Jay's shoulder. "Jay, I have one more thing to say"
"What's up kiddo"
"If you ever do something that crazy and insane again, I'll kick your ass myself"
Jay chuckled. "I promise I won't"
"I'll make sure he won't," Will says, giving a small chuckle.
She chuckled. Soon the brothers had left giving the teen some time to rest. Hank had went back to his daughter. Josh went home to get some rest. He wanted Hank to have some time with Jordan, working the case and seeing her in that state. It killed Hank. But now she was alive, awake, healthy, and safe. The way she should be. Jordan was trying to fall back asleep but couldn't.
"What's wrong baby?" Hank asked.
"Can't sleep" Jordan mumbled, her eyes fighting to stay open. "Can you stay with me?"
"Of course"
She moved over a bit giving him some room, the older father had wrapped an arm around her pulling her close. He had held her protectively. The teen's eyes were drooping.
"Daddy, I..I saw mom. You were right, she's beautiful"
Hank smiled softly and kissed her head. "That she was, she had given me the best gift of all"
"I..I saw" She was falling asleep.
"Sleep baby girl, I'm right here. Nobody's gonna hurt you"
Moving her head under his chin she had fallen asleep, Hank smiled softly resting his chin on top of her head. Closing his eyes he sighed in great relief. His baby was alive and in his arms safe. He pulled the blanket up more covering his daughter, he grabbed his jacket from the chair nearby and covered up with it. When Marcel went to check on Jordan he saw the father and daughter were fast asleep, he cut the light out and let them sleep.
By the next morning all of intelligence was in Med to see Jordan. Jordan rather see them all then see them individually. Adam sat next to her.
"How's my partner in crime" Adam spoke.
"Wanting to get out of here" Jordan replied, with a chuckle. "Not a fan of staying in hospitals"
"We don't blame you kiddo" Kevin told her.
"We're just glad you're alright" Hailey gave a small smile.
Trudy had gone to sit by her goddaughter; they had taken the second chair from the room for the moment which only left one.
"Come on Sarge" Adam protested.
"I will stick you on crossing guard duty for a year" Trudy told him.
He raised his hands surrendering, everyone couldn't help but chuckle. Trudy took the seat by her goddaughter and brushed her hair back.
"Were so happy you're ok" Trudy says softly.
"I'm Voight. We don't give up. We don't back down. We fight. We fight because we're strong" Jordan's voice was bold, confident.
Hank had a hand on her shoulder and gently squeezed it, he was so proud he raised such a strong daughter. Josh knew that his niece was definitely her mother's child. Jordan smirked.
"Hey Adam, I think you forgot something," Jordan looked at him.
The young officer looked confused. "I did?"
With her good hand she pulled out his wallet and car keys she hid under the blanket, his face just about fell.
"How.. how did you do that?"
"I have many tricks. You should know that by now. By the way there's a mouse on the floor"
"Nice try"
"No seriously it's like right on your foot"
Adam jumped not seeing anything and realized he was played yet again, everyone had laughed. One thing everyone could agree on, Jordan was back. Her fire, her passion, it was all back. From that day on she was gonna fight till she couldn't anymore. After all she was a Voight and Voight's fought, they were strong. They had fire and passion. Jordan had all of that and much more back.
"Is it too late for me to join the party?" Came a female's voice.
Everyone looked to see where the voice came from, everyone's face dropped. Even Jordan's
"Erin?"
…
And with that the infection storyline is finished! I hope I did this justice!
