*Picks up from Chapter 32-34. Must read those before this*
Jordan- 13
Hank was pissed. Pissed would actually be an understatement. Hank was livid. Jordan had to testify against Vladimir. There was no question or a doubt in his mind about what would happen to his little girl if she took the stand. She would be as good as dead. There was no way in hell that was gonna happen. Not on his life.
When he had gotten word of his little girl testifying against that ass wipe he had taken all the precautions. He took her to school in the morning, Kim and Sean stayed outside watching and when school let out they brought her to the district. He had his detectives team up to watch his daughter. She never went anywhere alone.
One day Jordan had an off day from school, Hank had to go downtown for a conference then he had an 'errand' to run. He was gonna tell them his daughter wasn't testifying. He wasn't a dumb cop he knew eye witnesses who testified were walking target practices. He'll be damned if that'll be his little girl.
He had Adam and Kevin with her for this time around. Hank had them take her to one of the CPD safe houses. He felt she wouldn't be safe at their house, it was broken into once. It wasn't happening again. Adam was keeping her occupied while Kevin made them some food.
"I win again!" Jordan says excitedly.
"How the hell do you do that" The young officer replies with a shocked face.
They were playing poker and Jordan won the previous two games, she smiled and grabbed the chips. "My brother taught me how to play poker when I was 6 and he taught me everything. And you have a poker face"
"No I don't"
"You totally do"
"Now now children, that's quite enough," Kevin teased from the kitchen.
Adam looked to his partner. "Dude she beat me like three times"
"Quit whining Ruz, it's a game and she's a kid relax"
"Can I go outside?" Jordan looked between the two officers.
They looked at each other, they couldn't let Jordan out of the house let alone their sight. If anything did happen to her Hank would skin them alive. The thought alone was terrifying enough. The two got chills just even thinking about it.
"I think it's better to stay in kiddo," Kevin told her.
"Please. Just for a little while"
"Sorry kiddo, it's not safe" Adam told her.
She huffed and ran upstairs, the two young officers sighed sadly.
"It's like she's a prisoner," Kevin said softly.
"I don't wanna keep her cooped up like this but, we both know if anything happens to her Voight will kill us" Adam says. "Maybe a few minutes won't be so bad"
"Ruz a lot can happen in a few minutes"
"What do we do?"
"I guess one of us can go with her. Just for a little bit"
"Who goes to talk to her?"
"We both can"
The two partners go up to see the young Voight. Jordan was on the bed turned away from the door. Kevin knocks.
"Jo, baby girl. Can we talk" Kevin calls through the door.
"Please my little partner in crime" Adam tried.
There was a brief moment and the door unclicked, she had unlocked the door. The two went inside. Jordan faced away from them and she sniffed back tears.
"Jo, we know you hate being cooped up like this but it's for your safety" Adam tells her softly. "You're dad doesn't want anything to happen to you"
"It's just right outside" She muttered. "Nothing would happen"
"We can't be sure of that kiddo. It's why you're dad told us to keep you inside" Kevin says next, keeping his voice gentle.
She sat up facing them wiping her eyes. "I promise I won't go anywhere. I'll stay in the yard"
"We understand that sweetie, but a lot can still happen" Adam said.
"I wish I had called my dad that night, then none of this would be happening"
"You can't be sure of that" Kevin put a gentle hand on her shoulder.
"Kev and I did come up with something," Adam looked at her.
The teen looked at him with a curious look. "I can go outside?"
"You can go outside for a little while but one of us has to go with you"
"Deal"
"I think I brought a football we can toss around"
"Let's go"
They had headed to the back yard.
Meanwhile
Hank was down at the State Attorney's office, he was gonna try hard as hell to keep his daughter from testifying. He didn't care if he had to sit in jail. He was in jail before, this time wouldn't make any difference. The older father was going to do anything and everything to protect his baby girl.
He had gone to find Steve Kot, the prosecutor who was trying the case. He stormed all over the building till he found Steve's office. Steve was just getting off the phone when he saw the older Sergeant.
"Something I can help you with Voight?" Steve asked.
"Yeah, you can take my daughter's name off the witness list. I told you from day one she wasn't getting on the stand and testifying" Hank told him sharply.
"Hank, you do know without Jordan's testimony, he walks. Now would you rather him be free on the streets again or locked away and never to be seen or heard from again"
"And I'm not burying my daughter because of what she saw"
"Hank, it's just a few minutes on the stand. Knowing you she's already under protection"
"She is and she's going to stay there until the trail is over. My daughter's not taking the stand and that's final"
"I can subpoena you to bring her in and if you still refuse you will go to jail"
"Then put me in jail. I'm not putting my little girl in danger"
"Then you give me no choice"
"Before you take me in, I gotta settle a few things"
Steve nodded and let Hank settle his affair. He went out to his car and made sure nobody could hear him. His first call was to Erin.
Over at the 21st, everyone was getting their paperwork in order for the case against Vladimir. They knew Hank was out hoping and trying not to get Jordan to testify. Erin's phone rang as she was finishing something.
-Lindsay. She answered.
-Erin, it's me. Hank replied.
-Hank where are you? You've been gone all day.
-I told Kot that Jordan's not testifying. I told him to put me in jail because there's no way in hell I'm letting her take the stand.
-What?! Hank that's crazy.
-Just listen, Adam and Kevin have her at one of the safe houses. Please make sure that Jordan has around the clock protection. You and Halstead are next shift. If Platt can spare them, I need Burgess and Roman watching her too.
-I got it. Hank maybe..maybe you should let Jordy take the stand. Help put this bastard away.
-She's to not take the stand and that's final.
Before she could get another word out Hank hung up completely shocked. Jay, Antonio, and Alvin looked at her.
"What was that about?" Antonio asked.
"Hank told Kot that Jordan's not testifying and to put him in jail" Erin told them.
"Has he lost his mind?" Jay spoke from his desk.
"He's made it clear that Jordan's not to take the stand"
Antonio grabbed his jacket and went down hoping to talk some sense into their stubborn ass boss.
While
Adam and Jordan were playing catch in the backyard, thankfully the house they chose had a high fence so no one could see inside. Kevin stood back keeping a watchful eye out for any and all threats.
"Think fast Kev!" Jordan called.
She threw the ball towards his direction and he caught it. "Nice throw kiddo. You're a natural"
"Don't tell her that Kev, then her head is gonna blow up" Adam teased, hugging her from behind.
"See this isn't so bad" Jordan looked at them.
Just then someone was knocking and the gate on the fence was shaking. Adam and Kevin moved quickly, Adam rushed Jordan over to his partner quickly and Kevin took her inside hiding her.
Going over to the gate, Adam pulled his gun from his holster and aimed it at the door ready to blow away whoever's on the other side. The door opened and on the other side was a woman holding what looked like a casserole dish. Quickly the young officer lowered his gun but kept it at his side.
"How can I help you ma'am?" Adam asks.
"I thought I'd welcome you to the neighborhood. I saw you and your partner with your daughter" The woman said.
"It's nice of you. My partner, were just friends he's helping me and my daughter set up the house"
The woman gave him a casserole dish and he brought it inside. Kevin had come down after making sure Jordan was ok. The expression on his face held shock. Adam looked to his friend and got worried.
"Kev, what's wrong? Is Jo alright?"
"Jo's fine, she's upstairs. Lindsay just called" He went to his partner. He couldn't let Jordan hear this. It would kill her. "Voight's in jail"
Adam's eyes went wide. "You're kidding me"
"Erin said to not tell Jo"
"It'll kill her"
Jordan was upstairs playing a video game when her phone rang she put it down and answered it.
-Hello. Jordan answered.
-Hey sweetheart. Hank came on, his voice soft.
-Daddy. Are you coming soon? You promised.
The older father felt his heart break. This is the most painful thing ever. -I'm sorry sweetheart I can't. Something came up that I can't get out of. I'll try and see you as soon as I can. For now I need you to listen to Adam and Kevin, do what they tell you to do.
-Are you alright daddy?
-I'm just fine sweetheart. Just listen and be good ok. I love you so much.
-I love you too.
The phone went off and Jordan was confused. What was her father doing? When Adam went to check on her, he stood outside the door he softly knocked the teen looked over with teary eyes.
"Everything alright sweetheart?" Adam asked, careful not to upset her.
"My...my dad just called. He's up to something Adam. I have to go find him and stop him" She ran passed only for him to stop her.
"Jo, Jo. Hey calm down. I'm sure your dad is fine"
"Something's wrong. I feel it"
The young officer hated lying to her. "Everything is just fine"
Jordan looked at him, she felt he was hiding something. "You know something don't you"
"The only thing I know is you're dad asked Kev and I to keep you here and to keep you safe. That's all I know"
"Adam" The teen's voice shook. "Please tell me the truth"
"That's the truth Jo. I promise"
"I'm getting a real bad feeling and it's not good"
Adam embraced her in a hug, Jordan wrapped her arms around him and cried into his shoulder. The young officer sighed sadly and rubbed soothing circles on her back. He couldn't tell her the truth, it would kill her.
While
After getting off with his daughter Hank went to surrender himself and he was escorted to a cell after having his gun taken. He laid on the bench in his fingers was a picture of Jordan and Justin.
Antonio walked down the hall and found the cell Hank was in. "Have you lost your damn mind?"
"Not yet," Hank replied, putting the picture back in his wallet. "I have about another few years when Jo gets interested in dating then I'll lose my damn mind"
"Now's not the time for jokes Hank. What the hell's the matter with you"
"I made it clear from day one, Jordan's not testifying. She's not getting a target put on her head because of what she saw. Not happening. If it means that I sit in a cell so be it. Not my first time behind bars"
"And exactly what do you want us to tell Jordan?"
"Nothing because none of you are gonna tell her anything. You know how well that went for a while"
Antonio bit his jaw, he knew what lying to Jordan meant. Hurting her and breaking her trust. In Hank's eyes it was protecting her from the truth and what could possibly happen.
"I can't lie to her again, the last time it was bad when she found out the truth"
"You can and you will. My daughter isn't about to become a walking target"
"The first time I did it was to protect her, I knew she didn't know about you or what you had done. I was protecting her from that. But this-" He was cut off.
"It's the same. You're protecting her from an evil bastard who can possibly kill her"
"Your asking for a whole hell of a lot this time Hank"
"I know but I have to do what I have to, to protect Jordan and make sure she's safe. You'd do the same thing if it were Eva or Diego. And I'd have your back"
"You better know what the hell you're doing Hank"
With that said Antonio left.
Meanwhile
Kevin had gotten dinner ready for him, Adam, and Jordan. They all went to eat, Jordan had eaten what she could before going to get ready for two young officers sighed sadly and cleaned the table.
"She knows I'm lying, Kev" Adam says quietly.
"You didn't tell her, did you?" Kevin replies back just as quiet.
He shook his head. "It'll crush her not to mention Voight would kill me"
"We can see how she is before we crash"
"I'm gonna do a perimeter check before lights out"
Kevin nodded, Adam went out to do a quick run of the area to make sure it's safe for the night and to make sure nobody is hiding and tries to kidnap Jordan during the night. Once Kevin finished the dishes he went to check on Jordan.
Freshly out of her shower and into a long sleeve shirt with the plaid pajama pants she just sat on the bed softly brushing her hair. She set the brush down and held the necklaces in her palm, looking at the dog tag her father made her and what would have been her mother's engagement and wedding rings a small smile appeared on her face. She felt her parents were with her.
Kevin softly knocked. "Hey sweetheart, just checking on you before bed"
"Kevin, do you know where my dad is?" Jordan asked.
"I don't. He only told Adam and I to stay here and watch you. He hasn't called me at all today"
"I'm getting a real bad feeling"
"Your dad's gonna be fine, I promise. He's one of the strongest, toughest, and bravest people I know"
"I just feel something's wrong and he wouldn't tell me"
"He called you?"
She nodded. "I asked when he was coming because he promised. He said he had something to do but couldn't get out of. Told me to listen to you and Adam"
He was sure enough in something he couldn't get out of but he wouldn't tell her that, all the young officer did was go over and sit on the bed and put a gentle hand on her shoulder.
"I'm sure he's fine, a case or something must have came up and he couldn't get away"
"I just hope he's ok"
"Knowing you're dad he'll be just fine. Alright time for bed it's getting late"
Moving to cover up with the blanket Kevin helped her, he made sure the blanket was around her. It was as if he was taking care of his younger siblings again.
"Adam and I will be close by if you need us"
She nodded. "Good night Kevin"
"Sleep tight kiddo"
He gave her a brotherly kiss on the head and left her, Jordan turned trying to get comfortable. She held the bear her mother got her years ago close to her chest, she could have swore she smelt her mother's scent on it. Soon she was asleep.
Kevin went downstairs to see Adam coming in from doing the run of the yard. Adam looked to his partner.
"How's Jo?" Adam asked.
"Hopefully asleep. She asked me the same thing" Kevin answered, drinking a beer.
"I hope this trial is over soon"
"You ain't the only one bro"
After the two each had a beer they locked up the house tight, they both checked in on Jordan one last time. So far she was sleeping soundly. The two went to the spare rooms in the house.
The house was quiet and dark. Around 1:30, Jordan was tossing and turning frantically in the bed. The blanket on the floor, her forehead covered in sweat as she tossed and turned frantically.
Soon she let out a high pitched cry. "No! Daddy! No!"
It had woken Adam and Kevin they quickly jumped up and grabbed their guns thinking someone broke in, they went to Jordan's room. When they got there they thought someone would be in there taking Jordan but instead they saw their boss's daughter fighting in her sleep.
They both put their weapons on the dresser and went, they sat on either side of her, Adam gently shook her.
"Jo, Jo wake up sweetheart. Wake up kiddo"
Kevin then tried shaking her other shoulder. "Wake up baby girl, come on wake up"
After a few minutes she shot awake and looked around frantically before she could get a word out she puked in Adam's lap. Kevin rubbed her back, Adam didn't care he could be covered in all the vomit, piss, and crap in the world. His main focus was Jordan.
Kevin went and wet a rag as Adam soothed the teen as she started to cry.
"Hey, hey. Shh, everything's alright. Your safe" Adam soothed her.
She couldn't make any words out through the tears and sobs, he pulled her slightly close but to close near the vomit. He rested his chin on the top of her head, she gripped his shirt as tight as she could.
"You're safe sweetheart, your alright"
Kevin came back and gave the rag to Adam, the young officer took it and cleaned the little bit of vomit from her mouth. Adam passed her back so he could go clean up. The other young officer held her close to his side gently rubbed her arm.
"Wanna talk about it?" Kevin asked softly.
"The.. the guy I saw..he..he killed my dad" Jordan says, her voice cracking.
Kevin just held her close and rubbed her shoulder, soon she calmed down and was nodding off again. Adam came back after showering and changing.
"How is she?" He asks his partner softly.
"Scared" Kevin replied back just as soft.
"We should leave her to get some sleep"
Kevin laid her back down and covered her up. They both slowly moved so they wouldn't wake or disturb her. Jordan's hand shot out grabbing Adam's hand. The young officer turned back to her.
"What's wrong sweetheart" He says softly to her.
"Don't leave. Please"
Adam looked to his partner, they both sat at the foot of the bed on the floor. Adam made sure to bring his gun with him but kept it out of Jordan's reach. If anyone was getting in that room, they wouldn't be making it out alive.
The two officers were in light sleeps but kept their guard up, by 4 am they were all in light sleeps. Jordan was up just about every half hour. They had taken turns staying with her and getting her back to sleep.
A loud noise came from outside, it almost sounded like a gunshot and it caused Jordan to shoot out of her sleep. "No! Daddy!"
The two officers woke and turned to her, they were exhausted.
"Hey hey, it's alright honey. It's probably just nothing" Adam told her, rubbing his eyes.
Kevin went to see. "It was someone's car engine backfiring"
"See Jo, we're safe. Your safe"
She laid at the bottom half of the bed, to be closer to them. Kevin brushed her hair back and watched as her eyes drooped closed. Adam had started humming a tune, it had calmed the young teen and soon she was back to sleep.
"What was that?" Kevin asked quietly.
"Just something my mom used to do when I couldn't sleep" Adam replied just as quiet.
"You holding back on me partner"
"If you say so"
The two partners had fallen back to sleep, needless to say they had a long night.
