Jordan- 16
If it was one thing Jordan knew how to do, spot a tail. She had always picked up when someone, anyone had been following her. Whether it be her father, someone from the team, someone she knew or didn't know. The teen always knew.
The past few weeks a man had been following and spying on her, he followed her into a coffee shop one day. She kept a far distance trying to stay hidden, the man looked around trying to spot her. He left his coffee and phone on his table as he went to the bathroom. Jordan had made her move, she swiped his phone and added a few things to his coffee.
Jordan casually sat at his table across from him looking through his phone, soon the man had come back, Jordan glanced up at him.
"Do you make it a habit of making your phone easy to crack?" Jordan asked. "This was the easiest thing to crack. Broke my one record of two and a half minutes. This took me say 45 seconds roughly"
"Who are you?" The man asked, sitting down.
"No, the better questions are, who the hell are you and why are you following me?"
When the man sat down he took his coffee and drank some and immediately spit it back into his cup making Jordan smirk.
"See now I'm hurt. I found the best hot sauce to put in that along with salt and pepper. Courtesy of the school cafeteria"
He was about to say something when he actually looked at Jordan. "You...You look so much like her"
The teen frowned. "Like who?"
He swallowed. "Your mother. Anna"
A scowl appeared on her face, one of the many subjects that had always been a touchy subject for her has been and always will be her mother. She had been very cautious and protective of that subject. Just like with her brother and daughter.
"How the hell do you know my mom?"
"We worked together a long time ago, very briefly"
"So you know she died right?"
"I do. I was very sorry to hear that, you look just like her"
"I've been told. That doesn't explain why you're following me. What's your name?"
"I wanted to see if the rumors of Anna having a child were true and the name's Jacob"
"It was no secret dude. I will say you had balls for following a cop's kid. Not many people have the guts to do it. Everyone gets scared or intimidated when they find out who my dad is"
"Your dad?"
"My dad. He does what a mother does except he's a guy. He raised me. Takes care of me. Do I really have to explain this out? My dad is Sergeant Hank Voight. Intelligence, district 21"
His eyes nearly popped out of his head. Jordan chuckled. "That was the reaction I've always gotten"
"I've heard a lot of things about your father"
"Keep them to yourself. He's all I've got"
"He has a good reputation from what I hear. Almost legendary"
"I gotta go before he sends someone to find me. If you wanna see my dad, I'll tell him but otherwise don't follow me again because next time you'll get dropped on your ass and it won't be from me" She stood up and bent down to his ear. "By the way I slipped some laxative in your coffee. You should be feeling it right about..now"
He felt his stomach gurgle and he ran to the bathroom making Jordan laugh. "Never screw with a Voight"
She left the coffee shop to see Hailey there, she groaned. "Can you tell my dad, I'm 16 not 6. I don't need a babysitter"
"No joking today Jordan. Your dad sent me to get you as a safety precaution"
"What's wrong?"
"You know I can't tell you"
"Of course, need to know basis. Shouldn't be surprised there"
Hailey pulled her to the car and had her get in, Jordan watched the guy come out of the coffee shop. She glanced and gave a small wave to him. He sent a small wave back. Jacob had two phones on him, the one Jordan cracked was a clean phone.
He pulled out his second phone and dialed a number then put it to his ear. "Yeah, it's me. I found her"
The blonde detective glanced between the teen and the road, she didn't fully trust herself with her boss's daughter. The last time she was with Jordan they were both kidnapped and Jordan nearly went blind. The two were still trying to build a bridge of trust.
"How was school Jo?"
"Why'd my dad really send you to get me? I told him I was out and when I'd be home. And don't give me that it's need to know basis. I'm 16, I ain't 12 anymore"
Hailey will give it to the teen, she wasn't dumb nor stupid. She was very intelligent for her age. "That's not for me to tell"
"Quit being such a blow hard and just tell me. I'm gonna find out regardless, just spill it" She took a breath and let it out. "Sorry, I'm just having one of those days"
"It's understandable. Wanna talk?"
"Not really. I don't like bringing it up, I'm afraid I'll lose my sobriety if I do"
"Not with me around. I won't let that happen"
She sighed a bit. "It's coming up on two years that I lost my brother and...and" Jordan still couldn't fully bring herself to say it, not without fully breaking down.
"Take your time sweetheart"
"My daughter" She let out a shuddering breath.
That had caught the blonde detective off guard, Jordan had a child? Hank had a grandchild? And nobody had ever said anything.
"I'm..I'm so sorry"
"Wasn't your fault. Just one of those things that happened"
"How old was she, if you don't mind me asking?"
"She wasn't born yet"
That caused Hailey's heart to stop. "You mean…"
"I miscarried. I was a month in. I was 14 and terrified, the day I miscarried her was the day I was going to tell my dad I wanted to keep her. I was at a baby store looking when Kyle came looking for me"
"Kyle? Kid from school?"
"Not exactly. More like Adam's informant"
The blonde just about choked on air. "You slept with a CI?"
"We were drunk and high. I was spiraling from my brother's death. I met him at a party, we went to a room. The rest was a blur"
"And your father let him live?"
"I was surprised too. After I got out of rehab I missed my period, didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what happened next. I went to Will he ran my tests off books don't tell my dad that. I called Kyle, he came and I told him he left. It looked like he ran like a bat outta hell trying to leave the country. I called Erin, Adam, and my Aunt Trudy. Erin and Aunt Trudy, I was really close with them. I knew if I needed help telling my dad they'd help. Adam, I called him so he can more so talk sense into Kyle. Will eventually got the results back, I was pregnant. I never felt so scared before in my life. I was 14 and pregnant by an informant. There was no chance in hell I was telling my dad, I begged them all not to tell. Once the shock and everything wore off, I got comfortable enough to tell my dad. He was indeed pissed but really supportive. About a week later I was at the mall and Kyle found me. We got to talking and well the rest is history. I lost my daughter and even though she wasn't born, I named her Anna. After my mom"
Hailey couldn't talk or get anything out, she had a bad childhood due to her drunk and abusive father. To hear Jordan talk about what she went through it hurt to hear it. Nobody, not so much as a child should have gone through what she has. She just kept driving to the district.
Hank was in his office with the door closed, Anna's old partner, Phil, he stopped by to tell Hank an old criminal that Anna put away is out of prison and is seeking him and possibly Jordan. Without hesitation Hank sent one of his detectives to get his daughter.
When Phil gave Hank the photo of the guy, a scowl appeared on his face. It wasn't the first time he or his daughter was a target nor would it be the last time. Hank has always protected his daughter from the criminals he's after this would be no different. He had been going over the file that Phil gave him and this guy was as dangerous as they come. The older man just hopes the bastard hasn't found his daughter yet.
Going to the squad and pulling the white board out he taped up the photo on the board and wrote on it then got his team's attention.
"Listen up, this is Jacob Desmond. He just got out of prison a week ago. He was put in prison for money laundering, embezzlement, fraud, dealing and selling weapons. He's agreed to make a deal for the Feds in agreement he gets an early release. He served just about 16 years out of a 25 year sentence. Anna, put this bastard away. This was her first case before Jordan was born, I don't want him going anywhere near her. I want this bastard back behind bars"
Before anyone could speak Jordan and Hailey had arrived back and were currently walking up, Hank turned the board. He knew if his daughter saw this she would somehow involve herself and that wasn't happening. Jordan walked straight to her father's office and Hank followed, closing the door.
"Dad please understand, I'm 16 not 6. I don't need a babysitter or a detail. I'm perfectly capable of taking care of myself" Jordan spoke, sitting behind her father's desk kicking her feet up.
"I do understand that but I have a dangerous criminal on the streets and I don't want him hurting you or getting to you"
"And I know if I smell anything weird or fishy to call you or one of the others. I don't wanna be treated like a kid anymore. No more hiding stuff. Stop with the need to know basis. I hate being kept in the dark"
"I only hide it to protect you"
"I remember the last time you hid just about everything from me and an arrogant as shole told me the truth instead of you. You want me to tell you the truth dad, but you don't tell me the whole truth. It works both ways"
"I'm protecting you from the truth"
"Alright. Fine. I'm not in the mood to fight" She rubbed her eyes, she felt a headache coming on.
The older father rounded the desk worried. "Are you alright sweetheart?"
"Just one of those days"
Something wet fell from her eye and Hank wiped it away, he knew why she was like this. He pulled her in for a hug without hesitation and she wrapped her arms around his neck. She bit her lip to keep the sobs from escaping.
"You're alright. I'm here to help you through this"
"I miss them so much dad" She let out a sob, burying her face in his shoulder.
"I do too honey. I do too"
After a long day Hank took his daughter home, he was going to keep an eye on her. He was going to protect her not only from this bastard but from herself. He knew with times like this she was going to feel the urge to slip and relapse; she had too many close calls and he felt this was going to be another.
The following day he took her to school as usual and today he was going to have Jay be her detail. Jay stayed parked right outside of her school, when Jacob had seen him he was infuriated. He needed to get the teen alone in order for this to work.
So far he gathered that Jordan wasn't like most teens, she wasn't dumb nor stupid. She was blunt and straight to the point, just had gotten that trait from both her parents. It was almost as if she was a mini detective. He sat in his car thinking he was broken out of his thoughts by hearing a loud knock on his window. When he looked at the passenger side he expected to see Jay there, instead he saw Jordan. He rolled the window down.
"You're supposed to be in class," Jacob told her.
"And you're not supposed to be here, you realize if my dad's detective catches you. You're toast. I don't wanna explain how I know you" Jordan went on.
Jacob knew this would be perfect. Jordan was right here in his grasp. He had the perfect chance but not just yet. He wanted her guard completely lowered so he knew when the right time would be to get her. And if possible, turn on her father.
"Say why don't we go get some coffee and talk. I wanna tell you something"
"I guess that be alright"
Jordan got in the car and buckled in, Jacob turned the car on and drove off the opposite way so Jay wouldn't see him. He then locked the doors to the car so Jordan wouldn't be able to escape. Soon they had arrived at a coffee shop, Jacob had gotten their drinks. He had slipped something into the teen's drink.
The sixteen-year-old had a funny feeling something was up, she had already had messages ready to send to her father and the others should things go south. Looking up she saw him return and she put her phone down.
"Thanks. So what did you wanna tell me?"
He smiled. "Your mother was the same way. Straight to the point"
"My dad's the same way too"
"That's what I wanted to talk to you about. What do you know about your dad?"
"Just about everything. He doesn't hide much from me, the stuff he does hide he does it to protect me"
"What do you know about the relationship with your parents?"
"Dude what the hell are you getting at?"
"Jordan, the reason I've been following you. The reason I know what I know about you is because..I don't think Hank Voight is your father"
A frown appeared on her face. What in the seven hells is he talking about? "What in the hell are you talking about?"
"I think..Jordan I think I'm your father"
