Jordan- 14
Prologue
"What's your problem?"
"You're not supposed to be here!" If- no when your father finds out he will have both our heads!"
"Relax Jay, I know what I'm doing. My bad, it's Ryan right?
The detective sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. "It's gonna be my ass when we both get caught and we will"

Earlier
Young Jordan is still fresh outta rehab, it hadn't been very long and she was still struggling with the urges that were strong. Often she'd see herself snippy and not realize it. Since being home she had been following all her father's rules. Daily urine tests for any signs she'd been using or drinking, no weapons, he had taken the Swiss Army knife that Justin had given her. He locked it up where she couldn't get it. He had hid and locked away his liquor, he was tempted to get rid of it just so she wouldn't get a hold of it again. She was to go to meetings, she had gone to teen AA, NA and mandatory weekly therapy sessions.
One thing Hank had made a definite rule, until she was able to gain her father's trust again. Someone was to always stay with Jordan while he worked. He made sure to be off at a decent enough hour to be home with her at night. While she was at school he had someone sit there so she wouldn't ditch and run off again, when school let out she was going to her mandatory therapy sessions and meetings.
Jordan loved her father dearly, since being clean it had begun the repair process of their relationship. One thing she hated about her father's rules was all the damn smothering, it seemed like everywhere she had gone she was looking over her shoulder and catching someone from the team watching her. The teen understood her actions before were wrong and now she was paying the consequences for it.
Kenny Rixton had temporarily joined the team on Hank's word, Jordan was happy to have one of her many uncles back in her life. With Adam currently on an undercover case, he had filled the spot momentarily. With her partner in crime gone for the time being she was following her uncle around at times.
Intelligence had picked up a new case and like any case involving a kid, no matter the age it always hit him. It made him think of his own children. Seeing it was a teenage year his daughter's age, if not a year older made him think how dangerously close he was to losing his daughter not long ago.
Hearing the details of what happened to the girl Hank was zoned out, he couldn't hear anything. He was imagining the dead girl was his little girl. The others had looked at their boss worriedly.
"Hank, you alright?" Kenny asked.
The older man snapped out of it. "Yeah. Yeah I'm good"
"Jo's ok. She's with Trudy"
"I should go check on her"
"She's probably asleep, let her rest"
Kim had found the girl's ID and her name was Sam Wells, she was a resident at Brady. A state home for teenage girls, girls who were wards of the state. After gathering everything they needed they took everything back to the district and got to work.
Hank wanted to go check on his daughter, Jordan hated being alone at night when her father or godmother both worked. The young teen laid on the couch that was in the lounge, she had fallen asleep reading one of her many school books. Smiling softly at his daughter, Hank gently took the book and closed it, setting it on the table. Feeling some movement Jordan had slightly jumped, she jerked up looking around and her father caught her shoulder.
"Hey, it's alright sweetheart. You're alright" Hank soothed her.
"Dad? What's wrong, are you ok?" Jordan asked, half asleep and looking over her father for any and all injuries.
"I'm just fine honey. I came to see you" He always went to check on her when he had a case involving kids, it brought some peace to his mind knowing that his daughter is ok.
"Bad case?"
If it was one thing Jordan knew how to do better than anyone, it was to read her father. She knew he checked on her on certain cases and why. The ones dealing with kids are the hardest, how someone could be so cruel and evil to a kid she'd never understand. The teen just reached out and wrapped her arms around her father and held him.
"It's ok daddy, I promise I ain't going anywhere"
The older man wrapped his arms around her. "I know sweetheart" He kissed her head. "Go back to sleep"
"It's fine, I slept too much today anyway. I hate sleeping during the day, I'm awake half the night"
"Then stay in here, I don't want you listening to anything you shouldn't"
"Deal, I gotta finish some homework"
"You want me to get one of the others to take you home?"
"No. I wanna be where you are right now"
Since the death of her brother and the departure of her sister-in-law and nephew, she wouldn't admit it but she was deeply terrified of losing him next, she was still piecing everything back together if anything happened to him, she would have another hard fall and may not come back.
Hank kissed his daughter's head in response and left her to go back to her school work. He had gone to his office, closing the door with his team, Trudy and Crowley in his office discussing the case. Trudy had been discussing the number of calls her officers had responded to there.
Crowley had looked at the older Sergeant. "So you want my permission to kick the door down?"
"No, I want the exact opposite"
Jordan couldn't help herself but listen at her father's door, he had been planning to send Jay undercover to the all girl state house. A light bulb had popped off in her head and bolted back to the lounge before she could get caught eavesdropping.
The meeting in Hank's office had broken up and everyone left for the night, Hank had seen his daughter working in the lounge. He knew his daughter had to be exhausted, Jordan hadn't slept right in a while. She'd sleep during the day as a way to stay awake at night.
He went over to her. "Come on sweetheart, it's late"
The teen nodded and rubbed her eyes, she had bags under them. They only got darker and darker by the day. Jordan had packed up her stuff and threw her backpack over her shoulder following her father. Hank helped guide his daughter out and into the car, after putting her seat belt on she leaned back into the seat, her eyes already half closing.
Hank got in the driver seat and sadly saw his daughter forcing herself to stay awake. Jordan had been plagued with nightmares when she returned home and she went to bed at night she'd wake up in the middle of the night crying and screaming for her brother. It killed Hank to hear her cries and screams, sometimes she screamed or cried so loud her throat had gone raw.
"You're going to bed when we get home" Hank told his daughter, as he started the car and steered off into the streets.
"Dad, I'm fine. Really I am" She told him softly.
"Jo Jo" He started gently. "You're not ok and it's ok to not be ok. You aren't sleeping"
"I am sleeping"
"Jo Jo please, this is still killing you"
The teen had been too tired to fight so she gave up. "Alright, I'll go to bed when we get home" She then had her chance. "Say dad, this case involves that Brady place. I can help out and-" Before she could even finish she was cut off by her father.
"No, absolutely not. You're not getting involved"
"Dad, I can do it Please. Who'd ever suspect me?"
"Jordan, I said no. You're not getting involved" Hank's voice then held a harsh, sharp tone.
"Alright fine"
Hank didn't want to sound harsh but his daughter had to understand police work, no matter what it involved was hard. Not to mention highly dangerous, Hank would do just about anything to keep his daughter away from that life.
"Jo Jo, I'm sorry"
"It's fine. I get it I'm to young for police work"
"I can't lose you too"
"I'll stay out of it"
"That's all I ask"
Finally the father and daughter had gotten home, Jordan had gone to her brother's old room as soon as she laid down everything had gone black as she fell asleep. Hank had gone to find his daughter and saw she was fast asleep in Justin's room, neither of them had the heart to touch it and Jordan would flip out if anything in her brother's room was remotely touched by anyone that wasn't her or her father.
Jordan was laid in the middle of the bed hugging the pillow, snoring softly. He smiled softly and tucked the blanket around her. He kissed her head then went to his room for the night.
By the crack of dawn the next morning Jordan found herself wide awake, she looked at the alarm clock on the nightstand that flashed 5:10 AM in big red numbers. She had woken up about 3:30 and hadn't been able to fall back asleep since. Something had gone off in her head.
Her father wouldn't be up for work for at least another hour or so, so she quickly went to her room and packed a backpack and snatched her house key. Throwing her hair up into a messy ponytail she threw on an old shirt and jeans along with her sneakers. She researched this Brady place and got the address, she quickly wrote it down and erased the search for it.
As quickly and quietly as she could she left her father a note and left the house. It was still pitch dark out and hardly anyone was on the streets. It was chilly as the teen began walking. It was quiet and she enjoyed the quiet at times, it gave her time to think and clear her mind. She put the address to Brady into her phone and started walking.
It was a long walk but before she knew it she was there, the front doors were locked and it started raining.
"Great, didn't think this through" She muttered to herself. The teen sat under the small roof and propped herself up against the wall, she was still exhausted. Her eyes drooped closed. "Just a few minutes. A few minutes" Jordan had then fallen asleep on the stoop of the place.
"Hey. Hey kid. Get up. Kid, wake up"
The teen heard someone call her and shake her, her body was about to go into attack mode but calmed down. She saw a young guy shaking her.
"What time is it?" Jordan mumbled.
"It's past 8 in the morning," The guy answered.
She hadn't realized she had even fallen asleep. With the guy's help she got up and stretched.
"What's your name kid?"
"Lynn. Lynn Carter"
He took her inside to the cafeteria for food. "What brings you here?"
"A friend of mine stayed here. She said this places takes in teenage girls if were wards of the state"
"What's this friend's name?"
"Sam Wells"
"She never mentioned you"
"We lost contact so it wouldn't have surprised me"
"You don't have any family?"
"My mom died when I was a baby. My dad went to jail. My brother" She held her breath slightly. "He died not too long ago. I don't have any family close by that'll take me"
"We'll get you situated today. Are you on any meds?"
That made her freeze. But with a straight face she answered. "No" Her tone was firm and sharp.
He nodded and left her to eat, Jordan watched him walk away and ate the mush in the bowl that was supposed to be oatmeal and some toast with orange juice. She took her backpack and opened in and pulled her phone out.
The teen had over a dozen calls and texts from her father, Erin and the others. One trick she picked up from Mouse before he had left, how to disable GPS on her phone. With the GPS off on her phone they had no way of tracking her phone.
After finishing the food she left the cafeteria and went walking around. She was trying to get a sense of the place and to find a bathroom. As the teen looked around she heard talking, the voices belonged to two men. One had been very familiar.
When the two men came around and Jordan saw, her eyes widened when she saw Jay. As the undercover detective looked and laid eyes on his boss's daughter with a straight face and tight smile. He went and walked over to her.
"Hey kid, you got a second," Jay called to Jordan.
Just before she could turn and run she faced him with a smile. "Sure"
Jay had gone over and took her wrist guiding her in an empty stairwell, he kept a firm grip on her wrist. He looked around making sure nobody was there and nobody could hear them.
"Jay personal space dude" Jordan slapped his hand away and off her wrist.
"Have you lost your mind?!" Jay snapped.
"Actually I have, I just got it back"
He gave her a sharp glare. "What are you doing here?"
"Same as you"
"You're not supposed to be here. How did you get here?"
"I walked. I googled this place and I walked here"
"You're going back to your dad now"
"No I'm not. Jay I'm the best one to be here because I'm a teenage girl, I know how to get information out of teenagers"
"Absolutely not"
She eyed the detective. "What's your problem?"
"You're not supposed to be here!" If- no when your father finds out he will have both our heads!"
"Relax Jay, I know what I'm doing. My bad, it's Ryan right?
The detective sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. "It's gonna be my ass when we both get caught and we will" He then looked at her. "How'd you know my undercover name, Ryan?"
She smiled. "Oh Jay, as I told you. I hear things, know things. I heard you talking to that guy back there and heard him call you Ryan. See ya around"
Jordan left the stairwell and Jay sighed, then pulled his phone out and called Hank. "Sarge, we have a problem. A big one"
