Apart from the rocky start, the birthday was remarkably typical. Then, Vali Lucifer and his servant Melusine left the ramen shop and went to an amusement park, saw a movie, and did whatever they wanted until it got dark. Except for Mélusine destroying everything that requires physical exertion and the astronomical food and repair bill, Azazel will receive in the mail in a few days, nothing out of the ordinary happened.
It was enjoyable—even fantastic. It was the best that a wielder of the Longinus could hope for. But it was so amazing that he became distracted and didn't realize who he was working with. This leads to the following quandary:
X-X-X
"I should have expected this. It was already too good to be true when it came to her ideas. I was a moron for thinking otherwise." In an attempt to escape reality, Vali closes his eyes and chants to himself.
He eventually caves, as he turns to face his servant with a lifeless smile and blank eyes, as if bracing himself for whatever antics his servant has in store for him.
"Melusine…" The boy's words had to be forced out. "Why are we standing on the cliff's edge?"
As he stated, the two are situated on a relatively high cliff. It is quite high at this elevation. If he were a normal person, he would have been more conscious about not becoming a smudge on the ground. However, for Vali Lucifer, his main concern is that they will end his birthday with something like dog fighting.
Although he has never seen her fly during training, he is absolutely positive she can, despite the fact that he has no idea how.
"She probably throws herself into the air and manages to stay there by sheer force of will." He was thinking casually. And he's not joking about everything he sees her do casually; this isn't something out of this world.
Which she is.
Because the servant was preoccupied with stretching, there was no response to the question, which only adds to the ominousness of the situation. The lancer only began answering when she understood what he was asking her.
"Oh, nothing. I just wanted to show you something." She talked about it as if it were trivial.
"Well, that only makes me more concerned!" He replied in his head.
However, one thing was clear.
He needs to find a way out of this.
"Azazel might be concerned if we return too soon; the sun has already begun to set." The boy is desperately trying to find an excuse by mentioning the time.
But all hope was lost.
"Don't worry, it won't take long." The lancer shrugs off the pretext and then begins standing up straight, as she is done with stretching. "And that's about it." She turns to him, her usual carefree demeanor intact. "All right, let's get started." She suddenly starts blitzing right at her master, clearly intending for both of them to fall off a cliff without giving any prior notice.
"I knew it." He sobs to himself before she snatches him and they begin to fall to the ground. "Damn it, MELUSINE!" Before landing, he spreads his magnificent set of ethereal wings and begins to fly.
He takes off into the sky, his azure wings flaring to life and settling into a manageable altitude.
"Hah." He breathes out. Even if knowing his sacred gear allows him to fly with comparable ease overall, he knew she knew it wasn't dangerous. However, not many people are thrown off a cliff while smiling.
"I'm not sure why you were worried when I routinely pushed you off high places."
He turns to face the relaxed voice in his usual rage.
"Well, things are different when you-!" His voice broke when he saw the form she was currently taking.
Most of her clothing has vanished, leaving her with a sleek black shape and enormous black wings. Black scales cover small areas of her face, and her hands and feet extend to her thighs. She grew claws and a tail while holding two clock hands that served as weapons and had rose-patterned patterns similar to her armor. Her once-white hair tips, which were only partly gray, were now stained with black.
She gives him a simile. " You like?" She spun around before returning to face him. " "Despite the fact that this form would be repulsive to most people, you should be able to understand it because you are also Albion." Her expression changes as if she has just had an epiphany and is starting to look remorseful. "Sorry, Albion couldn't do much about the blackening." She apologizes by bowing her head, but due to this baffling discovery, he couldn't even care.
"It's similar to my balance breaker…" The heavenly dragon was silent in the face of this new revelation.
She abruptly changes her tune, huffing proudly and placing her hand on her chest. "If I spread my wings completely, I'd be faster than anyone in my world. Even more than you, Vali! This is why I am an expert in airborne combat."
Her gaze is fixed on him as her eyes gradually soften. "This is me, Vali, Melusine's truth, Albion's missing piece, the aircraft that destroyed the kingdom of fairies."
Vali couldn't say anything. He had no other choice but to nod.
"Now Vali," she says quietly as she dispels her weapons and takes his hands in hers. "Let me say this in the deepest of my heart, I am glad you were born."
"Eh?" His pupils dilate. He was so taken aback by what she had just said that he almost stopped moving.
The servant continues, not noticing, "I know you see me as a brave being with no reservations or concerns. But.." She has a firm grip on his hand.
"I dislike being alone. I lack self-assurance. I don't have any personal goals because I am always given instructions." She remarked dismissively.
"But in contrast to you! Who fought loneliness and isolation with a heart of steel and a fierce mind. I couldn't help but be inspired by you and envious of your tenacity! And if you abandon me, an intense desire within me will arise to burn this world to the ground!"
This was a mind-boggling series of events. Any vision of the tough, self-assured girl he'd be envious of taking on the world with her confidence is slowly fading, and she's been replaced by a shy but kind, slightly obsessed girl with self-worth issues. As a result, he let the speaker finish her heartfelt words.
"But now that you have this opinion of me, I want to live up to it! I want to be your number one! Your undeniably best servant!" She takes a breather to gather herself. "But, more than anything, I'm happy right now. Only for your benefit will I fly in this fantasy."
She begins gently guiding him upwards, and when he looks in the right direction, she points with one of her hands.
Even for his eyes, the sunset's horizon etching was breathtaking. especially as he considers Melusine's beginnings.
"So this is for me, huh?"
Again, he was at a loss for words.
At the time, he was unable to adequately express his current feelings.
She then stands in front of him, spreads her hands, and flashes him the most radiant smile he's ever seen emanate from her, even brighter than this sunset.
She then starts speaking.
"So let me say it again!"
"Happy Birthday!"
"Vali Lucifer!"
He stared out at the horizon, his face hidden beneath his bangs, and all he could say to these feelings of desperation, admiration, and so much love was two words:
"God... damn it... Melusine…"
He covered his face with his hands as he struggled to contain his tears.
"You did all of this... for me? ...and I was finding it so hard to decide whether or not to show you, but now you go on and do this?"
He was making every effort to contain his emotions.
"I told you so."
"I'm such an idiot. The solution was right there in front of me the entire time." He berates himself.
"Hey, it wasn't me who said it." With a jab, the dragon tries to lighten the atmosphere.
As he returns to reality, Vali sighs and asks the question that has been nagging him for months.
"Can I show you something, Melusine?"
In a tired, if not relieved, tone and with an odd smile, he thinks about how foolish it was not to have done this sooner.
She gives a puzzled look while tilting her head slightly before grinning.
"Sure!"
