J is for Jacket

Castiel shivered as the cold evening air hit him. He glanced over at Dean, who was looking up at the night sky with wonder. It was a look the former angel rarely saw on the hunter anymore. Dean looked like he was truly at peace for the first time in a while. The rarity of it made Castiel not want to disturb him.

Currently, they were sitting side by side on the hood of the Impala. Dean had spontaneously decided to take a ride and would not take no for an answer. He grabbed Castiel and steered him to the car. Castiel hadn't had a chance even to grab his coat before he was pushed towards the garage by the eager hunter. They were in the car and gone before he could even comprehend what had happened.

Dean had driven around the countryside for a while before he found an empty field. Parking the car, he pulled Castiel out to watch the sunset. Of all the things God had done, there were a few things he got right. Sunsets had always been a favorite of Castiel's, which Dean had seemed to pick up on. It had become almost a regular activity for them.

Castiel leaned into Dean as he relaxed. Stars soon dotted the sky. He couldn't help but wonder how god had abandoned all of this. He looked over at Dean, and he couldn't fathom leaving him again. He never wanted to be without the hunter again.

The temperature was dropping, but Castiel still did not want to disturb Dean. The wind picked up, causing Castiel to shiver once more. Dean looked over at him with a brow arched. Castiel just smiled back at him, not needing words to communicate.

Dean made the angel sit up. He shed his jacket and passed it over without a word. Castiel grinned and took the jacket. Dean leaned back with a smile of his own. Castiel rested against the hunter once more. They sat there looking up at the stars together.

As he lay there, with Dean's arm around him, Castiel realized how comfortable Dean's jacket was.
