Blackness engulfed his vision, he could feel nothing. Then a light flooded his eyes and he finally regained his senses, he raised a paw and rubbed his throbbing head before rising to his feet. He shook his head, shaking off any sense of dizziness.
"Wut happened?" Scooby Doo asked in his trademark Scooby-speak.
He blinked and then froze in terror when he saw his surroundings, Scooby could see that he was in some kind of jail cell, surrounded by brick walls and dirt. This wasn't right?
"So, they thought you were one of them, huh?"
Hearing that voice made Scooby turn and he let out a yelp when he saw who spoke. Standing right next to the wall, wearing an outfit of black and red with a white mask, was a woman he'd heard rumblings about. Scooby knew about her far too well, it was...
"H-HARLEY QUINN?!" Scooby cried.
The Joker's accomplice stepped forward, looking at the terrified dog with curiosity. Then she bent over and pat him on the head. "Don't worry, Scooby-Doo. I'm not going to hurt you." Harley said in a sweet voice, "Nobody's going to hurt such a sweet, sweet doggy."
"Uh, thanks?" Scooby remarked, he was confused. "I thought you were his associate?"
"Who?" Harley asked.
"The Joker, a mean lunatic, Batman's nemesis. You're Harley Quinn, Joker's henchwoman." Scooby growled, preparing to defend himself.
A tear fell down Harley's face. "Please don't mention him right now." She whimpered, "Especially after he j-j-just ditched me. I-I-I thought he loved me, but he d-d-doesn't, The Joker t-t-treats me like I'm one of his tools. HE HATES ME!"
Harley dropped to her knees and started crying, she buried her face in her hands and continued to cry and cry. Scooby took pity on Harley and approached her before giving Joker's "former associate" a little dog hug, Scooby spoke to Harley in a soothing manner, trying to get her to calm down.
Even as she cried, Harley could hear Scooby. She stopped her bawling and looked at the Great Dane, tears streaking her face. Then she smiled and hugged Scooby back. "Thank you, doggy." Harley said with a weak smile. She wiped her eyes and stood up, a hand on her hip.
"We should try to get you out of here." Harley told Scooby, "We should all try to escape."
Scooby nodded. "Do you know a secret route?" He asked.
Harley shook her head. "Unfortunately, no." She answered, "But since we're in a room with dirt, maybe you could dig our way out, it is what dogs do after all..."
Knowing what he had to do, Scooby saluted and hugged Harley. He was going to dig their way out, he sniffed around for a diggable spot and then he sank his paws into the ground. Scooby began digging frantically, sending dirt everywhere while Harley made sure to stay out of the way of the dug up dirt. Scooby dug and dug until he was digging into a deep hole.
"Nice job, Scooby." She whispered. Harley followed Scooby on all fours down into the hole, leaving the room behind, Scooby dug deeper and deeper through the ground with Harley following him as best she could.
"Lemme know when we find a safe spot, Scoob." The ex-villain instructed.
"You got it." Scooby nodded.
The two kept traveling through the forming tunnel as Scooby dug along, digging through patches of dirt. They seemed to travel for minutes and maybe even half a mile longer. Then after enough digging, once they seemed to have gotten enough distance from the prison cell they'd been in, Scooby decided to dig up to the surface as he began to gasp for air.
POOF! Scooby dug his way up onto solid ground and helped Harley climb out of the hole, they looked around and noticed that they'd managed to get out of the prison they'd been thrown in. At this point, their escape was a success!
But the escape had just begun, seconds later, alarms began wailing and lights went off!
"Run..." Harley whispered.
Scooby nodded again and he made a break for the mountains with Harley Quinn following close behind him, she drew a big hammer from thin-air just in case they had to fight. Harley and Scooby kept an eye out for anyone who came after them, even wild animals.
Both escapees ran and ran, but then another sound attracted their attention. The two turned and looked for the source of the noise, shapes took form in the darkness and dog-like creatures appeared, gnashing their teeth ferociously and menacingly at Scooby and Harley. "Those wild beasts..." Harley snapped, "This is what led to us in jail in the first place!"
"Lets fight!" Scooby suggested.
"Oh, we're doin' so alright."
The Hyena pack lunged and attacked like mad, Scooby punched a hyena and Harley smacked one away with her hammer before one bit her in the arm and another scratched her back. Harley cried in pain, but she shook it off and knocked away the attacking hyenas.
"Scooby-Dooby-Doo!" Scooby hollered. He bit a hyena and slapped one down, then he was back to back with Harley and fighting away several vicious animals at once.
Harley bonked another hyena on the head and looked at Scooby. "We gotta go before the guards catch us!" She said.
"Right!" Scooby winked at Harley.
With the strength they had, the escaping duo broke through the throng of hyenas and ran across the mountainside through the bushes and wove their way past giant rocks while boulders fell around them. Harley smacked a wild wolf away and Scooby barked at a squirrel, the two were working together flawlessly without a hint of uncertainty in them whatsoever.
Many, many long minutes later, after trekking through mountainous territory and evading dangers from wild animals to prison guards, Scooby and Harley finally made it to safety in Canyon Village, where they could finally get some rest for a while before they parted ways.
Scooby's tummy was growling at this point and he felt parched in the mouth, even Harley was sweating a bit. She removed her mask and fanned her face, breathing very slowly.
"I'll see if I can find you some Scooby Snacks if you want 'em..." Harley offered, "Then we'll go find your friends, assuming they're in town." Scooby barked happily and jumped up to lick Harley's face. Harley then scratched his head lovingly in return.
The two unlikely allies walked around the town for a bit, looking for a place to rest until their luck came through and Harley found an inn for them to rest at for a short period. Harley talked with the owner, who led her and Scooby to a room with a kitchen full of drinks and food. And the room had a spa and shower close by, Harley and Scooby's lucky day.
Scooby helped himself to some Scooby Snacks that just happened to be in one of the shelves and drank some water as well, helping himself relax while Harley took a warm shower to clean herself off after that intense escape before cleaning her outfit and putting it back on.
Harley and Scooby sat in the room together, enjoying one another's company and not worried about a thing. Scooby lay his head on Harley's lap, letting her pet him and give him all of the affection they needed. For now, they were happy to be safe. It was just insane, the both of them being imprisoned by hyena-fearing people who thought they were hyenas.
As it would turn out, Harley had an incident that involved her turning into a hyena for a time and it just happened to be in the vicinity of a hyena-fearing town. By the time she'd turned back to normal, the guards had taken her to the prison. Not far off, Scooby and the gang were solving a ghost case and unmasking the bad guy when Scooby was mistaken for a hyena too.
Now, they could try to forget that insane experience for a good long time. "You're such a good doggy, Scooby-Doo." Harley told Scooby, "And we've been an interesting duo, haven't we?"
Scooby nodded and licked Harley's face again. "Yeah..." He said, "Its not every day when ya make new friends and when one makes friends with the likes of a dog like the famous Scooby, good old Scooby-Dooby-DOOOOOOOOOOO! Eee-hee-hee-hee!" Harley just giggled and hugged Scooby again, agreeing with him.
The two rested for a while and then headed out to go find a ride. By sheer luck, Harley and Scooby found Mystery Inc wandering the town in search of Scooby with silly old Shaggy bemoaning his concerns for his own dog while Velma tried to comfort him.
"I hope we see each other again, Scooby." Harley said with a tear in her eye, "I love you."
Scooby hugged Harley one last time and then he raced off towards his friends. Shaggy cried out with happiness as Scooby raced into his arms, Velma just smiled while Fred and Daphne hugged each other, breathing a sigh of relief. From afar, Harley Quinn watched with a tearless smile and then walked off to places unknown and to think about her post-Joker future.
But for now, all was happy as it was meant to be...
The End
