A.N. - I am going to try to keep a buffer of drabbles so I don't have to churn one out day-of to have something to post. Currently, I have a three-day backlog. Also, this collection is about all of the magical inhabitants of the Harry Potter (book) universe. So, have the first non-human drabble.

6. Fawkes the phoenix

It was fitting, for someone named after Guy Fawkes, that Dumbledore's phoenix served a higher power. And no, that power was not his "owner."

Fawkes was intrinsically a creature of the light, that "Greater Good" Albus liked to champion. But Fawkes espoused that ideal far better than his wizard. Fawkes' loyalty was to Dumbledore first, but the pull from his two donated tail feathers remained. He responded, gladly, to Harry. He recoiled, disgusted, at Voldemort.

Fawkes was proud (preening, even) of his unflappable devotion to rightness. But, just once, he wished to be remembered for something other than the burning.
