Me and Wayne adjusted to being parents fast. After nearly two days at the hospital we were able to take Amy Peach home.
Wayne drove being careful when reversing the car, driving us home, and parking the car.
Amy was crying the entire way back because she wasn't used to the car moving yet, and I did my best to try and comfort her from my passenger seat.
"WAAAAAAAHHHH! WAAHHHHHH!"
"It's okay Amy. We're nearly there baby. Shhh... shhh..."
I gently caressed her leg from my seat but her crying didn't cease.
"*sigh Wayne honey am I doing it right?"
"You're doing alright babe. I'm sure she'll calm down a bit when she's not in the car anymore."
"I guess."
Wayne turned with an empathetic look in his eyes and held my hand. I smiled as I held it back knowing he was here with me. And he was just as scared and nervous as I was. This was his first time being a parent too.
"Can you believe we're finally parents now? I still can't believe it sometimes babe!"
"Yeah, I know what you mean. I'm a dad before 40."
"And I'm a mom at 20."
"Our daughter is going to grow up to be a beautiful young woman someday."
"What do you think she'll grow up to be?"
"Maybe something smart like her mother."
"Hey, you're not stupid baby."
I said with a quick smooch on his lips aware that he was still driving.
"I am compared to you."
"No you're not."
"Darling."
"Okay you are kind of stupid but it's part of your charm."
"No that's not what I meant. I wanted to say I love you. Along with our Amy of course. Thank you for starting a life together with me. I don't know what I'd do without you Tabitha."
"I feel the same way Wayne."
Wayne leaned forward and gave me a brief kiss before turning his attention back to the street. Amy started crying again and we both laughed at how random it was.
"Take me home already daddy, Amy says. Stop kissing mommy."
"We'll be there in 2 more minutes."
*2 minutes later
Wayne pulled into our driveway and I saw a car parked in front of our house.
"We're we expecting anyone?"
"Definitely not my parents. They promised to always call before visiting first."
"Could it be my brother or Paty?"
"Maybe. I don't know if that's their car."
We curiously questioned it as we got out of the car, Wayne picking up Amy in her carrier, as we walked to the porch and Alexander Goth was waiting outside.
"Hi Alexander. Surprise visit?"
"Something like that. Hello Wayne, how have you been?"
Alexander said offering his hand to which he took being careful with Amy.
"Great buddy, how about you?"
"Lola and I are expecting a baby boy soon. Still deciding on the names."
"Congratulations. We just got back home with our daughter. Her name is Amy Peach Anderson."
Wayne held out the carrier with Amy in it and Alexander looked at her with a smile.
"Hey little baby Amy. Aww aren't you cute? May I take a picture? I want to show Lola after she comes home from work."
"Sure go ahead."
He slipped out his cellphone and snapped a quick picture.
"She's adorable. Oh right I nearly forgot why I came here. Here Tabitha this is for you."
He held out a yellow envelope to me and I took it feeling confused.
"What is it?"
"My father passed about a couple of days ago. Inside of the envelope is small amount of money from his fortune since you have been married to him, his fiancé Dina getting nothing, and an apology from the court for not dismissing the case sooner once I showed the evidence of texts from two years and onward. The case was dismissed and you have been compensated. I'm just here to give it to you on behalf of my family to apologize for what you endured and had to suffer. Apologies Tabitha."
I stood there dumbfounded as I opened it up to see a check with 10,000 dollars written on it. Alexander pulled me into a hug sniffing quietly.
"Sorry this came too late for you guys. If you ever have any other financial troubles just give me or Lola a call. That's a promise."
"But Alexander I can't accept this. This is too much."
"No Tabitha it is not nearly enough. Not after what you went through. Forgive me my friend."
"Well alright then. Thank you Alexander."
"You're welcome. I'll see you both later. Congratulations for your daughter."
Wayne pulled him into a one armed hug being careful with Amy.
"Thank you. My wife and I are grateful to you. You're welcome at our house anytime."
"No problem. Bye you two."
Alexander said as he left with a smile and drove away.
"Wayne-"
He was already one step ahead of me as he set Amy down and picked me up and spun me around.
"Ahhhhahaha Wayne!"
"I. Love. You. So. Much!"
"I love you too- whoah!"
Wayne lost his balance and we fell onto the grass breaking out into fits of laughter.
"We can finally live together in peace. I'm just so happy right now!"
"Me too! I can't wait to start this next chapter of lives together. You and Amy both."
"Well then let's get started."
Wayne stood up and held out his hand to me helping me up. He picked up Amy and we headed into our home together.
The Anderson family.
