A.N. — Here is the mundane counterpart to the (not so) magical tone of last chapter. Petunia here is not quite the spiteful shrew she became by canon rolled around, but the feelings are festering.
31. Petunia Evans (Dursley)
Cokeworth was a plain, pitiful town. Grey and grim, the residents reflected their environment. Eyes were downcast, for little existed there to catch the eye.
For Petunia Evans, having those eyes opened to the world of magic — only to be denied entry — galled.
It wasn't enough that her sister had more beauty than her, was more outgoing than her, no. Lily was graced with magic, and Petunia lacked grace of any sort. Being the eldest, Petunia already had a haughty attitude. The separation from Lily only heightened her ire.
Alone but for her parents, Petunia hurled her hurts at others.
