A/N: I've been struggling with school and school and school and well, it sucks. Hardly any time for writing of the shiny Kaylee/Simon sort. But I digress, Kaylee PoV, Post BDM, Simon/Kaylee goodness. Read, Enjoy, let me know what you think.

He likes watchin' her when she works. Nothing pervy or anything, just him sitting in the engine room with her while she tinkers away under Serenity's heart.
She don't mind the company.
It started before they started, back when he looked all rigid and outta place, standing outta the way in his crisp white collars and silk vest, back straight as ever. Not that that quiet Simon dignity has left him any now that he's sitting on the floor right next to her (if it's safe, that is). Nope, its all there, though now there's the familiar curve in his back and shoulders as he hands her bits or tries to help (and boy does she get a kick outta the fact that he's as smart as the sky is endless but don't know a pin wrench from a spanner).
Serenity likes having him there too, Kaylee tells him as much one day. She loves the lift in the corners of his mouth, that teeny tiny Simon smile that turns her insides all to fluff. "I like being here, too." He tells her and its one of the sweeter things that has ever been said inside that engine room, she's sure.
There's not an over abundance of talking at first, because (as he confesses later) he has never known the right thing to say (not that it was ever really a secret). He opens up though, and when the words finally do settle into the routine she hits her head on a pipe laughing at the mental image of him trying to catch a wayward patient back at the hospital (he checks her for injuries and then kisses the bruise better at her request. Later she won't have to request and it will just make it all the better).
And progress beyond that, of the kiss-touch variety and some days it's a distraction having him so close, smelling like he smells, all clean and shiny, and looking like he looks and being who he is.
But that don't make a difference in the end,'cause it's a handy thing, really, havin' a doctor in the engine room.
