A.N. — Here is another drabble that coincides with the actor's, rather than the actual character's, birthday. With this chapter, I've now covered two squibs, and two Hogwarts caretakers. For such a reviled guy, I thought I'd take a sympathetic tack here (though I have ignored house elves on purpose).
107. Argus Filch
When he first saw the Room of Requirement, Argus Filch wept. Not out of awe for what Hogwarts was capable of, but for what it wasn't.
This vast collection of stonework made semi-sentient from centuries of magic couldn't clean itself. And until it could, it was Filch's responsibility as the castle's caretaker to maintain its upkeep. The man had no help — not from staff nor magic. Argus was sure others forgot he was a squib. Thankfully, he did have the students as a ready-made labor force when they earned detention.
But, for now, a millennia of newly-discovered detritus awaited him.
