Summary: Contrary to popular belief, Sakura actually disliked spring. SasuSaku (one-shot)
Disclaimer: Sadly, I don't own the Naruto series. If I did, I would be doing unmentionable things to Sasuke right now.
A/N- Special thanks to Natalie, AKA FrillingFreak, whom I've been e-mailing and thinks this story rocks. She also helped with what Sasuke says, so you should honestly thank her for the SasuSaku-ness.
Sakura inhaled deeply, feeling her lungs burn with the cold and her nose tingle. She stuffed her hands inside her jacket pockets and stared at the meadow shining with the just-fallen snow. Everything was peaceful and calm, and she closed her eyes, enjoying the silent moment she had to herself. The wind whipped lightly at her hair, and despite the fact that she was wearing a scarf, it blew upon her neck. Sakura shivered slightly at the cold touch.
She smiled slightly, and opened her eyes, taking in the beauty of the white dust upon the grass. Contrary to popular belief, Sakura actually disliked spring. Sure, it was nice with the warmth and the blooming and everything, but she prefered winter, with the bitter cold. If there is one thing that is for certain, it is that the cold will always be there, no matter what.
Winter reminds her of him.
Sakura leaned against the bridge easily, eyeing the frozen lake. She wished she could skate, but she hadn't brought her skates with her. Besides, she may have been the first one there, but that didn't mean that her other two teammates weren't going to show up. Sakura let out a slow breath and gazed at the sky, a solid gray. Switching her long legs, the pink-haired girl sighed. She was surprised Sasuke wasn't here. He was always here before her. She smiled slightly. Although they were all now 19 (except for Kakashi, of course) Naruto would always be the second latest, no matter how old they got.
Finally, Sakura spots one Uchiha Sasuke, walking her way. His breath is coming out in little pants and he is wrapped in a black jacket, hands stuffed a pair of baggy jeans. The female grinned at the familiar gesture, and nodded at him as he approaches. He returned the gesture, and together they waited for their loud blond friend to show up.
"Hey Sasuke?" Gone were the days she added the -kun to his name.
"Hn."
"Isn't winter nice?" He shot her a questioning glance, so she decided to elaborate.
"Well, the silence is really nice, and it gives the trees a chance to shed themselves of their old leaves. Besides, the snow is pretty."
"I prefer the spring." He said simply, and Sakura's jaw dropped. Of course, he could have meant it in the way as in the season way, but something about that tiny smirk on his face made her believe otherwise.
"You like the spring better?" He nodded.
"Why?"
"If there was no spring, winter would last forever and all life would cease to exist but without winter, spring wouldn't seem so special. They need each other." His smirk widened. Sakura could feel herself blush.
They need eachother...
"I see." Was her reply to this stunning little tidbit of information. Sasuke nodded, and turned to face their newest arrival, who was running towards them, waving his hands and yelling their names. Sakura smiled. She changed her mind. Her newest favorite season was spring.
A/N- Ummm, I know, the ending wasn't the best, and there wasn't a lot of SasuSaku-ness, but it was definately there! I trust you all got the metaphor? The idea came to me from someone else's fanfic, where Sakura appriciates winter. I can't remember at the moment who wrote it, but whoever did write it did an amazing job. Seeing as how you've made it this far, wanna review and tell me what you thought of my little drabble?
