DISCLAIMER: I do not own Harry Potter
John had waited years for the day he received his letter to Hogwarts, he always loved the stories his Uncle told him about his time within the hallowed halls, the time he accidentally turned his Potions teacher into an ice sculpture, the time he was in a prank competition with the trickster poltergeist, Peeves, the time he ditched History of Magic to watch Quidditch practice and more. It had been a couple weeks since John and Ken had seen the owls flying overhead to drop off letters, John was still waiting for his. His uncle had went out to grab some groceries, while John looked out the window, watching more owls delivering the letters. Eventually, Ken returned.
"Sorry I took so long, kiddo, I ran into the Gulls and we got stuck talking."
The Gulls were a family of muggles, Ken knew them since he worked at a restaurant with Mason Gulls, who worked as a waiter, while Ken was a cook. Mason was married to Patricia. John also knew that they had a son called Isaac, who he went to school with, but they never spoke to each other.
"And how are they?"
"They're good, their son got accepted into a very prestigious school."
"Speaking of which…" said John
"Still nothing, I'm sorry."
John was disappointed, the anticipation was absolute torture, every day waiting for his acceptance letter for Hogwarts, but as the days passed and the start of term approached more and more, John began to worry if he would ever see his acceptance letter, he still had plenty of time to get his letter, but there's always the nagging feeling that it might never happen.
"You don't have to worry, I told you, the day I brought you here, Professor McGonagall said you had potential and she could tell you would be at Hogwarts one day." said Ken
"I'm beginning to wonder if she was just wrong." said John
More days passed, now, it had reached the middle of July, John's birthday. John tried his best to be happy today, but inside, he was still upset that he still hadn't received his acceptance letter for Hogwarts. Despite feeling upset, he smiled as Ken handed him a plate with a slice of cake.
"Thanks, Uncle Ken." said John
John and Ken ate together, until they heard something upstairs.
"What was that?" asked John
"Sounded like it came from your room."
John got up and ran to his room, he threw the door open and saw nothing that could have made the sound. John walked to his open window to close it…wait, John never opened his window, why was it open?
John turned around and saw something on his bed that he hadn't seen before, a white envelope. John picked it up and saw the name written on the envelope, 'Jonathan L. Hawthorne'. Could this be it? Was this the moment John had been waiting for? Ken arrived at the door.
"What is it?" asked Ken
John said nothing and turned over the envelope and smiled, there was no mistaking that wax seal.
"It's here." said John
John broke the wax seal and read the letter.

John ran and hugged his Uncle, who hugged back.
"I almost can't believe it, I finally got my acceptance letter, I'm going to Hogwarts."
"I told you that you would." said Ken
"So, what do we do now?" asked John
Ken looked down at his 11 year old nephew and smiled.
"Looks like we'll be heading to Diagon Alley" said Ken
