A.N. — I missed Father's Day back on Sunday, so here is a dad that only acts as a father to one of the youngsters under his roof. Getting in his mindset for this was uncomfortable, and the amount of re-writing I did to get this 100 words out reflects that.

173. Vernon Dursley

The unasked for burden left on his doorstep was viewed by Vernon just like his old golf clubs: best left to gather dust in some dark, forgotten corner so no thought had to be spared toward them. So, sensibly, he swapped one for the other in the cupboard under the stairs.

Harry Potter, like his golf gear, only brought out unwanted memories. The clubs reminded Vernon of a healthier time in his life. His nephew just reminded him of another young, but fatally flawed, family. Their freakishness had gotten the Potters killed; Vernon would stamp that threat out of Harry.
