DISCLAIMER: I do not own Harry Potter
While John was getting measured, a girl stepped in, she had pale skin, her hair as black as raven feathers and her eyes were the same shade of blood red as John's spiky hair.
"First year at Hogwarts?" asked the girl
"That's right, you too?" asked John
"Correct, allow me to introduce myself, Celestia Nightshade." said the girl
"John…John Hawthorne." said John
"Hawthorne? Interesting name."
"Not as interesting as 'Celestia Nightshade'." said John
Celestia got measured after John.
"So, Hawthorne, what house are you hoping to be sorted into?"
"Um, I hadn't really thought about it, from what my uncle told me, my father was in Slytherin while my mum was a Hufflepuff."
"Hm, what about your uncle himself?"
"He always told me that he was in Gryffindor, maybe it would be fun to be in Ravenclaw, complete the set." said John, letting out a laugh
Celestia did not laugh in response, only gave a scowl. John was given his robes, he paid for them and stepped out of the shop.
After John got his robes, the next stop was Flourish and Blotts, to collect the books needed. Ken had helped the Gulls find the books that the boys needed, when Isaac got distracted by another book that wasn't on the list, 'Wizards in the Muggle World by Abraham Chauncey III'. Despite not being on the list, Isaac's parents had no issues with getting it for him. After Flourish and Blotts, it was off to Wiseacre's Wizarding Equipment, where they got the phials, telescopes and brass scales. While it wasn't on the list, Ken knew the kids would need writing equipment, so he took John and the Gulls to Scribbulus Writing Instruments, to get plenty of parchment papers and ink. Next was Potage's for their cauldrons, followed by Amanuensis Quills to get quills. Next was the shop Ken knew John had been most excited about.
"Here's our next shop." said Ken
"Oh my god, Ollivander's." said John
"What kind of shop is this?" asked Mason
"Best place to get wands in all of the United Kingdom. The old owner, Garrick Ollivander, had been the best wand maker is Europe, taught his son everything he knows after he retired." said Ken
"I can't believe I'm finally getting my own wand."
"Yeah, no more borrowing mine. Now, John, I have to make a quick stop to get some more Floo Powder, here's some money for your wand, I'll be back shortly." said Ken, handing John some coins.
"What are we supposed to do in here? What's the etiquette?" asked Patricia
"Just stand back and let Ollivander do what he does best." said Ken, as he walked away.
John opened the door and walked inside, seeing a man behind the register, reading the paper. He was around early 40s, black hair that was showing some signs of greying, round glasses and a thin moustache.
"Ah, welcome, Gideon Ollivander, a pleasure." said the man, setting down the paper.
The Gull's looked around, overwhelmed by the shelves stacked high with small boxes. Gideon walked up to the boys.
"And what might be your names?" asked Ollivander
"I-Isaac Gulls."
"John Hawthorne."
"Alright, now, which is your wand arms?"
"Mine is right." said John
"Um, I don't know." said Isaac
"It's easy, which hand do you write with?" asked John
"I'm ambidextrous."
"Well, which hand do you prefer?" asked Ollivander
"Um, I guess my right too."
"Okay, hold your right arms out." said Ollivander
The boys did so and Ollivander took out a tape measure from his back pocket and measured the boys' arms from shoulder to finger, wrist to elbow, shoulder to floor, etc.
"Hm, I think I know the perfect wands for you two."
Gideon walked up to a shelf and pulled out his own wand, summoning a ladder towards himself. He climbed the ladder and pulled out a box. He walked behind the counter again and opened it. The wand was a light shade of brown, at the bottom of the handle, it curled to resemble a snail shell while the body had a slight curve to it.
"Aspen, Unicorn Tail Hair, 11 inches." said Ollivander
Ollivander took the wand out of the box and held it to Isaac. Isaac hesitantly took the wand.
"Go on, give it a wave." said John
Isaac was worried about what would happen, but did just so, and as he waved the wand, it left a stream of silver and green.
"Perfect, and now for you, Mr. Hawthorne."
Gideon Ollivander went to a separate shelf and picked up another box, opening it and handing it to John.
"Snakewood, Unicorn Tail Hair, 9 inches."
John took the wand, but it was immediately taken from him.
"No, it's not right, something else…"
Ollivander took another box, a rather short wand was inside.
"Ash and Phoenix Feather, 11 inches."
The same again, John would take the wand, only for Ollivander to immediately take it back. Ollivander tried a few more wands, Mahogany and Dragon Heartstring, Yew and Unicorn Tail Hair, Spruce and Unicorn Tail Hair, English Oak and Phoenix Feather, all were deemed wrong. Ollivander pondered for a moment, until a smile crept onto his face and he went to the very back of the shop and called the ladder, climbing to the top shelf. Ollivander said nothing as he removed the wand from the box and set it down on the counter.
John took a close look at the wand now in front of him, 13 inches, Blackwood, John guessed the core to be Dragon Heartstring, the body was covered with carved out symbols that he didn't recognise, while the handle was carved to look like 2 bird wings had wrapped around it, he slowly reached towards the wand and took it in his hand. A wave of his hand and a stream of crimson and white materialised from the wand.
"A perfect match." said Ollivander
John paid for the wand, as did the Gulls, paying for Isaac's wand. They stepped out and saw Ken, holding a snowy white kitten in his hand.
