A.N. — From a birthday to a death day: the moment where the Harry Potter series left its childhood behind and went all in on young adult drama and stakes. You'll be missed, Cedric Diggory.
175. Cedric Diggory
Hufflepuffs didn't seek glory; Cedric Diggory was no different.
He put no stock in those badmouthing Harry for stealing his spotlight. Cedric instead took them aside and coached them through their misgivings. After the first task, he just wanted everyone to survive the Tournament. He hoped others could see that.
Well, the spectators couldn't see either the second or third tasks very well, but the point still stood.
And, at the competition's climax, Cedric's house colors shone true. Harry got it — a shared victory for Hogwarts was fitting. Cedric exhaled before grabbing the Cup, relieved the danger had finally passed.
