DISCLAIMER: I do not own Harry Potter

If John had to pick a favourite subject, so far, he would have to choose Defence Against the Dark Arts, not only was Professor Cassowary a very good teacher, but it was cool being around the different dark creatures for demonstrations.

"That's all for today, class, I want you to research what you can on Banshees for our next lesson." said Professor Cassowary

John packed his stuff and left the classroom, but he had a feeling he had forgotten something. He checked and realised he had forgot his ink well. He returned to the class when he heard something inside. He opened the door to see Celestia talking with Cassowary's dog, Sawyer.

"Wow Nightshade, good to see you finally made a friend." said John

"Hawthorne, what are you doing here?"

"I forgot my ink well, wasn't expecting to see someone talking with a dog."

"Well you would be surprised to know he can actually hold a conversation better than you, well, I have Potions and I don't want to be late, Professor Smallflower does not take kindly to being late." said Celestia, leaving the room

John shrugged it off and put the ink well into his bag when Rudas' Journal fell out, when John reached for it, Sawyer ran and took the journal in his mouth before running off.

"Sawyer, No!"

John took off after the Rottweiler. He was getting tired when Sawyer stopped in place. John looked up to see Headmistress McGonagall pointing her wand at the dog.

"Not the first time Sawyer has tried stealing from students."

McGonagall took the journal from Sawyer's mouth and handed it to John.

"Here you go, Mr. Hawthorne."

"Thanks, Professor."

"I must ask, what book is this? I don't recall seeing it in the library."

"Oh, it's my…notebook." said John

"Well, I hope you remember to take plenty of notes in your next class."

John remembered that he was late for Potions after chasing Sawyer.

"Thanks for reminding me, Professor."

John turned to head to Potions, when he stopped and looked at the book, if someone had a little more information, it would be McGonagall.

"Um, Professor McGonagall, have you ever heard of someone called Rudas?"

McGonagall went wide-eyes at the mention of the name.

"Where did you hear that name?"

"I heard some students mention it."

"And who did you overhear?"

"I don't remember."

"Well what do you know about Rudas?"

"Just that he was some kind of Dark Wizard."

"More than that, Rudas started growing his reputation after the fall of Lord Voldemort, he worked in the shadows to recruit followers for his cause."

"And what was his cause?"

"The complete and utter destruction and elimination of all muggles. He started here in Hogwarts, he hid his identity with a mask that was made from the broken remains of the masks of the Death Eaters. When he had left Hogwarts, he seemed to recruit more followers within the Wizarding World, most of them were arrested and sent to Azkaban."

"What about Rudas? How was he caught?"

"He wasn't, Rudas returned to the shadows and was never caught, he might still be out there somewhere, however, his mask was found and left in the castle, now, if you would excuse me, I have work to do."

McGonagall headed off and John rushed to Potions.

"Mr. Hawthorne, you are late." said Professor Maxine Smallflower

"Sorry Professor, I got caught up in a talk with the Headmistress."

"She would know to make sure you got to class on time, now take your seat, 10 points from Gryffindor."

John couldn't sleep that night. His talk with McGonagall was still on his mind. He looked around, seeing his fellow first year Gryffindors sleeping in their beds, he also saw Hecate sleeping at the foot of his own bed. The sound of someone speaking caught his attention. John looked out the window, he could see grounds around the castle, and he saw a man walking around, it was hard to tell who it was from this distance. John only assumed him to be one of the teachers.
