A.N. — Early July is a very, very empty time in the canon Harry Potter universe. So, it's a great place to dump lesser-known characters. Here's yet another absentee from ff.n's character tags, after a run of well-known folks. It's also fun to throw in a giant after a haughty highborn.

184. Karkus

Ruling the last remaining giants was easy for Karkus. He was the biggest and ugliest, therefore he was in charge.

As long as underlings brought him and his wife food, he was content. And as long as the other giants kept infighting, he was secure in his position. Life was good.

But then two half-giants came, bearing gifts from Dumbledore (who always fought for his kind), and things became complicated.

The ever-burning fire and goblin-forged helmet pleased Karkus, but stirred dissent in the colony. The Gurg's severed head was denied its shiny new adornment, resting bare underwater the next morning.
