A.N. — Here I go again, bouncing from probably the most recognized adult character in the series to a house elf who doesn't even merit a spot in the character tags. They are connected via Tom Riddle's past.
189. Hokey
Snooty purebloods loved to decry the lesser nature of creatures like house elves, but they were perfectly content to bring one up on charges like a Being when it suited them.
Poor old Hokey had no idea what was going on. They said she'd poisoned Mistress Hepzibah, but all she could remember was serving her cocoa. The wizards didn't seem to realize it was anathema to a proper elf to wish harm on their master. Hokey was horrified that she was even being accused of such a crime!
That didn't stop them from convicting a crying, confused Hokey of manslaughter.
