A.N. — And now to finish off the Tale of the Three Brothers with the middle child. He, to me, is easily the most fascinating. What would someone's mindset have to be to ask for something like the Resurrection Stone?

193. Cadmus Peverell

His brother Antioch had died young, but it wasn't him that drove Cadmus to use the Resurrection Stone.

Cadmus' fiancee, torn from him before they could wed, was his first request from Death's bauble. But he, in turn, tore her away — not from him, but from a peaceful afterlife. Even a man as arrogant as Cadmus saw his folly, when he beheld the static shade of his love.

The middle Peverell died by his own hand, not knowing that fatal trait which led to his demise would trickle down his bloodlines. The Gaunts were mad; they had Cadmus to blame.
