Being close to Lily Evans and her friends during Hogwarts had its positives and negatives for Marlene McKinnon.
By hanging out with a muggleborn witch, Marlene had her eyes opened to another world, one she was ashamed to admit she previously lent little credence to. With bolstered friendship came introduction to the Marauders. Lily and Marlene delighted in turning away James Potter and his boorish advances... until one day, Lily gave in. Marlene, being a supportive friend, watched their love deepen from afar.
They both joined the Order after school. Lily went into hiding; Marlene stayed conspicuously visible, for Lily.
