The boys were in their room after the meeting. Ryker had taken the bed closest to the window, Gray had the middle bed and Natsu with the third, along with Happy. Ryker was leaning against the open window looking at the landscape, but once while watching the conversation, or discussion, between his other roommates.
"You two remind me of some people," he said without looking at them, nonchalantly.
"Huh !? What are you talking about," Natsu asks.
He gives a light laugh, "I've seen that kind of rivalry in other people."
"He has a fight with everyone, it's nothing special. He's just a big troublemaker, " Gray said, frowning and speaking in a provocative way.
"The snow saint spoke!", the fire wizard replied, almost ready to attack, but the other mage just shrugged, he didn't want a fight in that place or at that time. "How about you? I'm still hoping that we can fight. Don't think I forgot! ", Dragon Slayer said, pointing his arm with a closed fist towards the newcomer.
"Don't wait for it," he replies, turning to him and sitting on the bed, fiddling with his things. He took a bottle, opened it and swallowed a pill.
This was noticed by the other mages. "Hey! What did you take? Are you sick by any chance? "Gray asked with some concern.
Ryker just turned his head towards the wizard, "It's just a vitamin, don't worry," he said.
"I want too. If it's going to make me stronger, I'll take it," Natsu said excitedly, hoping that taking a vitamin could make him stronger, after all, isn't that what vitamins do?
"I'm sorry, it was the last," Ryker said as he put his things away and took out a pack of cigarettes and a lighter. Natsu whined.
Gray was looking at his new comrade and something occurred to him. "Ryker", he called him. "Did you have someone who taught you your magic?"
"I had several," he replied, looking at the ice mage.
The answer surprised the two magicians. "What do you mean, several?" Both asked.
Ryker smirked. "I was not trained like you. Apparently the pink hair there had a dragon that trained him. You, from the way you said it, must have had a master. I've had several, we can say that. One for each aspect, each blow or anything else related ".
"Wait! I didn't understand ", Natsu said crossing his arms and looking confused.
The rookie got up and went to the window where he leaned. "Let's see if it makes things easier. I am not a magician ... ".
"What do you mean, you're not a magician?" Gray said, puzzled.
"Do you mind?", The novice said pointing to the cigarette he was lighting, which was denied by the ice and fire wizard. "We don't use this denomination where I came from. There ... there we simply call ourselves soldiers. And a soldier is trained with several instructors. So I had a lot of people who taught me ".
"It's the same for me," Natsu said sloppily. "You only learned your magic from a lot of people, yet you are still magic and anyone who uses magic is a mage."
"I think you ... may be right, pink hair," he said, smiling out of the corner of his mouth and looking smug as he smoked his cigarette.
"Stop calling me pink hair!", The fire wizard shouted indignantly.
Ryker just continued with his smile. "What about Erza? Did she have a master? ".
The two other magicians looked at each other, they never really wondered if she had had a master before. She had never mentioned anything about it, as did many of the guild's other wizards.
"I think not. She never said anything about it, "Gray said doubtfully and thoughtfully.
"And on second thought, many wizards in our guild did not have teachers. Did they learn by themselves? ", Natsu wondered, and it hit both mages like a hammer.
"Maybe because they are better than you two," Happy said.
"AAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!", Was the only thing the two magicians could say with their hands on their faces.
"Well ... so there are three of us," Ryker added with his peculiar smile.
"Thinking for a second, Cana learned her magic on her own and so did Juvia. Well, at least she never said she had someone who taught her," Gray said, puzzled.
"Yes, and Luce too. She taught herself, "the fire wizard also said, perplexed.
"Calm down, you two! Having a master has probably shortened the path for you. Besides, it is not a demerit to have someone who taught you something ".
The two looked at their companion and reflected for a while. "I think so. I mean ... I'm happy to have met Igneel, "Dragon Slayer said happily.
"Me either. Despite what happened ... I was happy to have Ur in my life, "Gray said with mild sadness.
"Did you see!? It's not that bad, "Ryker told them both as he blew smoke from his lungs. "Hey, pink hair! Are you the only Dragon Slayer or do you have more? ", He decided to kill his curiosity.
The two looked at him without understanding anything. How could he not have realized that there was more in the guild. Or was he so disconnected that he didn't notice, or did he just not care about the others?
"Oh no. In fact, there are three more. Gajeel is an Iron Dragon Slayer and Wendy, who is from Wind. Didn't you notice? "
"Yes, and there are still others out there. There are two more in the Sabertooh guild, Rogue and Sting. There's Cobra and, of course, Laxus, "Gray added.
Knowing that Gajeel and, above all, Wendy were Dragon Slayers surprised him a lot. He had no idea that there was more, including in other guilds. And wasn't Laxus Makarov's nephew? Was he also a Dragon Slayer? A lot of information!
"Well, not really," he said. He stood there, at the window, finishing his cigarette and thinking.
"I think we had better sleep now. Tomorrow will be a long day, "Gray said settling into bed. The rest agreed, but Ryker knew he would not be able to sleep. He stood there at the window waiting for the other two magicians to fall asleep, which didn't take long. As soon as they were in Morpheus' world, the novice magician left the room, with another cigarette in his hand and headed out of the hotel. He leaned against a wall near the entrance and lit his cigarette and stood there smoking, feeling the cool night air and looking at the sky enjoying what he could see. They really had a clear sky, that was all he could think of. For a while he stood there, his cigarette was finished, until he noticed a figure coming towards him.
"Erza !?", he says. "What are you doing on the street at a time like this? Night watch? "He says in a mocking voice.
"I can say the same about you," she returns.
Ryker looks her up and down, which makes the warrior mage blush. "Aren't you wearing your armor?"
"I don't always use it. Sometimes I like to walk around casually ", she says looking at him. "And after all, what are you doing here at this hour? You should be resting ".
"Just taking some fresh air and enjoying the night. You?".
She looks at him and smiles, crossing her arms. "Just walking around. Seeing the city. I can say that it has a lively nightlife ".
"Yeah, I can imagine," Ryker says looking around. "In a city like this, nightclubs must be an escape from everyday life."
Erza nods in confirmation.
Ryker gets rid of the wall and starts walking. "I think I'm going to drop by one of those clubs."
"What !?", she says in surprise.
"If you want, you can come," he says, looking over his right shoulder as he passed Titania.
"Wait! But tomorrow..."
"I'm not going to ask you again," he says, walking and walking away. Erza, on the other hand, blushes furiously and decides to accompany his partner, hurrying to catch up with him.
They arrive at a club, but it was more of a pub than anything. There was a band playing some songs and the atmosphere was pleasant, dark, but not pitch black, there was a lot of wood decorating and the lights gave a pleasant and welcoming tone. There were a lot of people in the place, but the place was large enough to not seem crowded and the movement was easy.
They chose a table and sat down. At first, the two just observed the environment and back, well Ryker since he entered looked everywhere looking for emergency exits, looking for optional escape routes and looked for the exit. He devised an escape plan for any eventuality and was always alert and his body was always prepared for a fight. He had this same behavior whenever he entered a place. Erza noticed this behavior and was intrigued. Why was he acting that way? It sounded a little paranoid, she thought.
"Why are you looking so much to the sides and to the exit?", Titania asked him. She had a serious, steady look on her face, a sign that she was not going to admit lame excuses.
He looked at her and noticed her firmness. "Precaution. Just that, "he replied.
"Are you sure? Because, it looks more like trauma, "she said bluntly.
"It's just a precaution. I've seen a lot of shit happen in closed places like that. So I prevent myself ".
Erza closes her eyes and crosses her arms thoughtfully. "You are smart. It is a great measure ". To which he just smirks, relieved that the subject died there.
"There is a very pleasant environment here", she notes looking around.
"Yeah, that's what it looks like."
"Could I take your order?", a waiter arrives at his table and hands the menu to the magicians.
"Whiskey, no ice," Ryker asks bluntly.
"Are you sure? Tomorrow we have business to do ", Erza scolds him seriously.
He looks at his partner lightly and unconcerned. "Relax. I won't be drunk or hungover if you want to know. I know how to control myself. Why don't you drink something, too?". Erza just turns his face in disapproval.
"Ok! Do you want me to order one of those drinks full of fruit and with a rain guard? You know, the ones that any little girl likes ", he says in a mocking and playful tone.
This attitude, in fact, surprised him. He was not the type of person who played like that with others. But, for some reason, he felt free to do it with the redhead in front of him.
Upon hearing this, Erza looks at him with a deadly and devilish look. "I will want what he wants," she says to the waiter almost defiantly, but the speech was addressed to the tablemate. Which just makes him smile a little.
"Come on, don't worry. One or two cowboys are not going to kill anyone, "Ryker says nonchalantly.
"I will kill you if you are not whole tomorrow", the redhead mage threatens him with a serious look.
He simply slams her a sloppy salute, "Yes, ma'am!" He says at last. Erza, in turn, relaxes with her arms crossed in resignation.
"Since we're here, why don't you tell me about yourself?", The magician asks him.
He looks at her and his more relaxed expression changes to something more serious and uncomfortable. "Now you're looking like Mirajane, wanting to know about my past."
"And what's wrong with that?"
"The problem is, I don't want to talk," he says, reclining in his chair and crossing his arms.
She looks at him for a moment. "It's ok, if you don't want to speak. Everyone has things in their past that they prefer to keep to themselves. "
This surprised him, but he was grateful that she did not force him. At this point the waiter handed them their drinks. "You know, I don't have a lot of good memories," he says the redhaired mage as he looks at his drink.
She looks at him, understand what he meant. "The best memories I have are after I joined Fairy Tail. You will have them too, "she says in a softer voice, and he smiles out of the corner of his mouth and agrees. Ryker takes his glass, raises it in a toast gesture, which is followed by Erza, they toast and drink.
"I think I can share some things," he says, holding his mate's attention. "You know, I'm not a mage, or at least that's not how I identify myself. I am a soldier, with military training ".
Erza couldn't help but smile, she almost knew it. "I think, in a way, I was suspicious. It's not surprising, by the way, "she says in a victorious tone.
He signals to the waiter for two more shots. "You know, there is something in the military, in the companionship that we get that is inexplicable. I think that you, people of guilds, must have something similar, but I cannot say that it is the same thing, or in the same intensity ". Leaning on the table and leaning on his elbows, he stares at the magician Requip. "But you, Erza, are different. You are a warrior and more than anyone else, in the guild, you must understand the battlefield and the companionship that comes with it, as well as the costs ".
What he said made her astonished, no one had said anything like that to her, and made her blush like a pepper. She leaned back in her chair and started to be a little shy. Until the waiter brought his drinks again.
"Ah… no one had said anything like that before. I think ... maybe ... you're right, but ...".
"Let's drink and relax, that's all," he says, interrupting her, to whom he raises his glass and toasts with her and they both drink his whiskey. "I'm really starting to like you, Erza Scarlet." She blushed even more, with this sentence, he realized, but did not understand why she was red. It must be the alcohol taking effect, he thought.
"And why don't you tell me something about yourself, redhead?", He asked her, which brought her out of a certain trance.
"Tell me about me?" she put her hand on her chin thoughtfully.
"Did you have a master? Someone who taught you your magic? Me and your friends were asking us about it earlier, " he tried with a question to help her out.
"No ... I mean, she came on suddenly in a time of need," the magician said. "Until then, I didn't even know I could use magic."
"In a time of need !?", he was amazed, he did not know what magic in that world could arise spontaneously, in certain situations.
"Yes, it was a ... difficult time, but it is over," she said confidently, as if whatever had happened was in the past and no longer bothered her as before. He did not want to go into the subject further, he understood it perfectly in not wanting to talk about certain things. It made him see her more closely.
"I understand. Now tell me? Gray and Natsu seem to respect you a lot, I would say they are even afraid. Did you beat them, huh? ", he asked curiously, although the last part was done in a playful tone.
She laughed, enjoying the memories she had since arriving at Fairy Tail, and the fights and disputes with its members. "We can say that it's. Those two were always fighting and someone had to put order in the house ", she said smiling. "And Natsu always challenged me, but he always ended up losing", she remembered her childhood and smiled.
"Well, that explains a lot," Ryker said as he waved the waiter over for another round.
"I think so. But nothing compared to my rivalry with Mira. She was ... difficult ".
"You and Mira!?", Ryker asked surprised, he couldn't imagine that Mira could be someone's rival, or even get into a fight or something. "I mean ... she mentioned something about her complicated past, but seeing her, it is impossible to imagine such a thing."
"She was very different in the past, before she supposedly lost her sister. She was the devil himself, " Erza put it seriously, but lightly. "We always fight to see who is the strongest".
"It's hard to imagine," he says in awe.
"What is your relationship with Mira?" She asks suddenly looking him in the eye.
"Uh! None. Why?" he said, confused.
"It seems that you two are very close and you are always at the bar near her ..."
"You are wrong," he said, interrupting the redhaired mage. "We are just colleagues. I don't think I can call her as friend, yet. Friendship is something that takes time to form, but we are good colleagues, that's all," he explain a little harshly. At this time the other round came and they drank.
Both wizards spent some time in that place talking, but did not take anything alcoholic. The conversation was almost always about and some stories of missions and adventures she had as a child. They couldn't say that the conversation was boring, they were both comfortable with each other, even though the man didn't share much, the conversation was fluid.
It was late and they decided to leave and return to the hotel, the bill was paid by Ryker. It was a good time, and both could understand more about each other. They headed for their respective rooms, but he stayed up for the rest of the night.
