A.N. — After doing one owl in June, there are three of them coming up in August. This bright girl is the only one of her species, though, prominent enough to be included in the site's tags. As if I could separate Harry from his familiar?

213. Hedwig

It wasn't the bacon that kept Hedwig loyal to the boy; it was the bond.

She didn't have the human words (yet) to communicate with her wizard, but the gist of it got through via their shared connection. Their magic was interwoven with each other. It gave Harry a preternatural ability to understand Hedwig and the snowy owl the increased brainpower and magical reserves to more fully carry out her duties. Whether it was mail delivery or being a non-judgmental confidant, Hedwig would always be there. She didn't need the bond to know that Harry's devotion ran just as deep.
