Chapter 1

Cerrena walked through the tunnel. As she walked out, her shining yellow eyes were blasted by the sunlight. Her yellow hair was put into the latest trend-what they call the "Megalobraid." It was basically one long tentacle on the right, and on her left was a braid. She had a scar from her childhood across her left eyebrow. Her old friends often called it her "battle scar," because she got it in the middle of a battle. Duh, why else would they call it her battle scar? (because it makes her sound cool-that's why)

She was in her backyard, playing a mini turf war with her brother, Tenny. They were a few years younger, and were fooling around, as usual, when she tripped and fell. On her way down, she cut her face on a piece of glass that had broken when Tenny broke a window playing baseball, so it was taken out. Someone forgot to take it somewhere else, and now it was just leaning against the wall of the house. She ended up having to go to the emergency room to get stitches.

So now she has a battle scar. Her friends probably would've just called it her scar if she didn't get it when she did. They were boring like that. Nakji didn't like using money, it was her greatest fear for some reason. Pike didn't like Splatsville, he wanted to go to Inkopolis. Ugh, so not fresh. Electra had suddenly turned emo, and she didn't want to wear all black in the blazing hot sun, which was reasonable. Macro was scared of holes, and the Splatlands have a giant crater, so that kind of freaked him out, even though it's just a freaking crater. It's not like anything could reach out and grab him, right? So that's why she was traveling alone instead of with her friends.

Cerrena was wearing an old Tri Shred Tee, and mother's Force Reboots that were more comfortable than they looked. She had taken her old Cephalo Pods with her, and was currently jamming to "Till Depth Do Us Part" by Deep Cut.

"I'm hungry. What did I pack again?" Cerrena wondered. She checked inside her bag. "Oh carp, I only have a candy bar and a juice box? That was a little dumb of me."

Behind her, she suddenly heard a crash loud enough to blast through the music. She flipped around, realizing that her only way back was now caved in, blocking her way.

"Oh squid, how am I going to get back?! What if I don't have enough supplies to get to Splatsville? I might need to get back there at some point! Ugh…" she panicked. She's always been really bad at planning ahead, and so when she packed for her latest adventure, she forgot to get enough food. As always.

"Okay, I need to focus." Cerrena paused her music. "Should I start walking? Just like out into the middle of the desert? Naw, that's a dumb idea. Tenny would do that, but I'm not that stupid, even if I only have candy and juice. Why am I so stupid! Okay. New plan. I think that's a train station out there. I could manage to get there, and-huh?"

There was a small little Salmonid at her feet. Her parents had always said to stay away from Salmonids, but this one looked harmless. Also, it was in the middle of the freaking desert. Why would something so small that literally lives in the ocean be here, in the Splatlands, of all places? Also, its cute little tuft of hair made it too cute to resist.

"Oh hello little friend! What are you doing here?" Cerrena asked, crouching down. "Do you have a name?" The little fish thing just sat there, looking up at her and bouncing. "Oh wait, I don't know if we even speak the same language, haha silly me!" It made some little Salmonid noise, so small and pathetic it was freaking irresistible.

"Aww, you're so cute! I want to keep you forever!" Cerrena said, picking it up and squishing its face against hers. "I'm gonna name you…Fish!" It just kept bouncing in her hands, looking at her like a tiny, helpless kitten. "Oh, do you need food? Uh, I have some candy, can you eat that?" She put Fish down and started rummaging through her pack.

"I found it!" She cried, holding it up. She started opening the package, at least trying to. "Ugh, these things are always crazy hard to open, hold on, Fish…Ah! Got it!" She broke off a piece, and held it out to Fish. Fish gladly ate it with glee. "Aww, you're so cute. But we should probably get going. I don't have much supplies, I need to get to Splatsville as soon as I can. So let's go to the train station and…hop on a train!" She yelled, pointing toward the station.

As she started walking, Fish followed close behind. Cerrena smiled, and gave Fish another piece of candy. Fish ate the candy up like a starved monster, and hopped on Cerrena's head. It was nearing night, and they needed to find somewhere to rest, because the desert is frigid after nightfall. "C'mon, Fish. We need to find somewhere to rest, I don't want you to freeze."

Fish jumped off of Cerrena's head and started running. Well, it was more of a speedy waddle thing, but it was freaking cute. "Wait, Fish!" She called ahead. Fish lead her to a small little cave thing. "Woah, you have way better eyesight than I do at night, this is cool!" She said. It was small, but big enough for what they needed. She set up for the night, and fell asleep with Fish close by.

Cerrena woke up not long after dawn. Fish was still asleep, so she just picked him up and started heading to the station after packing up. She was almost there, just like ten more minutes. Fish woke up, and just chilled in her hands, bouncing up and down. "Wow, you have way more energy than I do in the mornings, I can barely stay awake," Cerrena yawned.

As they were nearing the station, a train came speeding by. "Wait, is it stopping? I think it's-HOLY CARP IT'S NOT STOPPING! Nonononononono I need to get on there! Waaait.." She yelled. "Maybe there will be another one in an hour or two, and we could still make it."

They checked the schedule. "Oh no," Cerrena said, "The next train is tomorrow at noon!"

Author's note: hey humans! (at least I'm assuming you're humans. If you aren't a human, hi) thanks for reading! This is my first actual book that I decided to stick with (at least for now-you never know) I hope you like it, and any tips or reviews are really helpful!

I actually named my little buddy Fish, and I thought it was cute and made that his name in my story. If I went with my name in Splatoon, it would get a little confusing. (my name is Le Fishy. See how confusing that would be with Le Fishy and Fish?)

Also, the Megalobraid is the name that the Splatoon wiki (Inkepedia) gave it, if you want to know more hairstyles, then you could go there. If you want any information for Splatoon, it's a great place to go

Disclaimer: I don't own Splatoon (sadly. If I did that would be awesome), Nintendo is the rightful owner. But Splatoon is a great game with awesome music and you should definitely play it if you haven't already. I also don't own Inkepedia, although that would be pretty cool.
