Dobby told Winky to stop drinking butterbeer. But Winky needed butterbeer. It dulled the pain of her family dismissing her. Butterbeer, for just a little while, let Winky forget her failures. But Dobby said that her dependence on butterbeer was a failure. Winky just wanted Dobby to leave her alone. She was a bad house elf; why couldn't Dobby see that? He insisted Winky was good, that he was there to help, that everyone was there to help. Winky disagreed. Hogwarts was not home to Winky, and no amount of convincing from Dobby would change her mind on that, either.
