Supergirl: Beyond Crisis on Earth X Chapter 9 Both Sides Now
The following day team supergirl converged on the house of the suspected world killer purity or as she is known in her human form Julia Freeman. The plan is to hopefully catch her off guard as to stop any unnecessary destruction or harm to her or themselves. Kara, Alex, Mon El, and J'onn supported by a team of DEO agents began to circle the perimeter with Kara, Alex and J'onn going through the front and Mon El going in the back. As Kara kicks the door down and proceeds to enter the team here singing in the back room where Winn was registering the single heat signature in the building in addition to themselves. The team walks into the back room to see the target sitting on the ground singing a song with her eyes closed seemingly not knowing about the DEO intrusion. Kara goes in and alerts Julia to their presence starling the woman causing her to scream in fright. Julia is now fully aware of the presence of supergirl and the team looking around clearly frightened by the show of force. Julia says "supergirl what are you doing here?" Kara steps toward the frightened woman trying her best to calm and reassure the woman so as to keep the status quo of the situation level and asks the young woman if she was Julia Freeman. Julia quickly shakes her head in assent then inquiring as to why they have come for her.
The team begins to stand down as Kara tries to calm the clearly oblivious woman down. Kara then asks the woman if she knows why they have come for her and Julia quickly answers in the negative. Behind Kara the seemingly passive situation was not sitting well with Alex who was still on guard especially after she almost lost Kara to a world killer only a mere few weeks ago and was in no way ready to go through the same situation again. Alex notices something about Julia that was not sitting well with her and quickly begins to act on it taking an aggressive stance once again escalating the situation and frightening the still scared woman causing Julia to plead with supergirl " Don't let them hurt me please" Kara turns to see Alex's aggressive posture and begins to question her sister. Alex would not let Kara get a word in, fully convinced something was amiss here. Quickly however Alex's suspicions were proven correct as if from out of nowhere Julia freeman switched off and purity was switched on and right before Kara and the team stood the second world killer in all her splendor. Before anyone could react purity unleashed a scream that took everyone off their feet stunning them. Purity now laying waste to the DEO team with the sonic screams until Kara and the other jumped into action with Kara using her breath to form a wall of ice to defend them from the powerful scream and Mon El hands J'onn the cuffs to neutralize Purities power and J'onn fazes threw the wall. Kara steps through the wall of ice and with a slight tap of her finger breaks the wall for them all to see J'onn and the now powerless purity on the other side.
Elsewhere in National City at the penthouse of the Baxter building Diana, Kiara wait for the arrival of their new partner in crime Kate Kane aka batwoman. The business woman turned vigilant called a meeting of their motley crew stating that she finally got a lead on the green hand. For the past few weeks the three of them have tried to track down the group before they can carry out their terrorist plot. Kate Kane had been frantically playing by Diana's rules that they would help her but she has to stop wreaking havoc on the city's scum and do this by the book before someone well and truly gets hurt. They both know that it could not have been easy for the red head vigilant fully knowing that stopping the plot of the green hand was the red heads secondary objective. Every lead that went cold but the redhead in an even worse wood because the longer it took them to find the group the longer something could happen to Poison Ivy and this weighed heavily on the business woman who fancied the green skinned villainess. After a few more minutes of waiting the red head walked into the penthouse and walked towards the couple sitting on the couch. Kate looked at the two " I think I found the most promising lead yet." Kiara and Diana looked at each other and motioned for the ragged looking business woman clearly that this after hours project was taking its toll on the redhead. Kate laid a folder down on the table in front of them and sat in the chair across from them and motioned them to open it and assess her findings. Kate then begins to explain her finding " So i have been monitoring any out of the ordinary activity coming into the city. For weeks it proved fruitless until I noticed something odd. For the past few weeks planes carrying a rare plant were flying in daily it seemed. Now this on its own was not suspicious till i started to look deeper. The planes were carrying a rare blue flower called Bhutanese Nightlock." Diana and Kiara look at Kate unknowing the significance of a blue flower to the overall plot at hand. Kiara then asks the redhead, ``So it's a bunch of crates carrying a flower only found in Bhutan for someone's corporate office." Kate slightly annoyed at her partner's clear obliviousness to the information so Kate continued " your right it looks like a harmless flower except when it's in a powder or gas form when it becomes a highly concentrated neurotoxin with a lethality of under five minutes after exposure." This information caught the attention of the other two. Kate finished off "someone has been importing thousands of these flowers and getting them flown to National City in balk." Diana then chimed in " do you know who has been flying them." Kate did in fact look into this. I mean she was not a keen detective that gave the dark knight fervent competition for nothing " the planes are owned by Drax air freight, a subsidiary company owned by Henri Drax the famous environmentalist. And the flowers are flown into one of his private airfields and then transported to an undisclosed location Kate did not know. On paper they were delivered to Drax's headquarters in the city but never actually arrived." Kiara and Diana know what Kate was hinting at that Henri Drax was involved in the green hand and it made sense to cover up such an organization like the green hand and orchestrate everything you need resources and access something someone like Drax would have. The three women are broken from their revelry by Diana's cell phone ringing. Diana looks at it and sees it's the DEO calling and goes to answer it as Kiara and Kate continue to discuss. Kate looms to Kiara " we have to look into this" it was not lost on Kiara how frantic the usually composed CEO was, but she did not blame her if she didn't know where Diana was and knowing she was in a constant state of life threatening danger she would be this frantic and guaranteed there would be a trail of bodies littering the street and blood running in the gutters. That being said this was the best lead they had and it was worth checking out. Diana came back into the room " Kara and the other have captured the world killer and taken her to the DEO and have requested our presence. The couple turned to Kate " with or without you two i am going to check this out. It's the closest we have been to them and i am not letting it slip through our fingers." Diana and Kiara looked to each other and nodded then turned to Kate and agreed to help her tonight.
At the DEO Winn is giving the team a run through of what they discovered at Julia Freeman's house. Kiara and Diana join the group as win brings out the Kryptonian cache crystals both Kara and Kiara recognized them instantly having dealt with them in the past. Winn seems to think that they can track down the world killers by using the crystals to pinpoint the locations. After Winn's briefing J'onn and Mon El left to begin repairs on the legion ship. Kiara and Diana Left the DEO to prepare for their late night escapades, Alex and Kara however begin to have a heated argument over purity/julia and how to handle her. Kara wanted to try and get threw to Julia after her reaction earlier at her home, but this was an idea that Alex was not too keen on. Alex begins to argue with Kara " Due respect, but what i saw in that house was a very capable liar putting on an act so she can get close enough to kill you " Kara immediately retorts "No I don't think she's faking it." It moments like this that Alex hoped supergirl would be more like Overgirl because even though Kara's ability to see the best in people it would also be her weakness for instance at Julia's house Overgirl would not have fallen into such a trap. These were thoughts Alex never would have thought he would be having, usually trusting her sister but after the events with Reign Alex is more protective than usual. Alex then has to give Kara a dose of reality " you told me about the vision you had. The world was burning, and that is the world killer that you saw." Kara nodded affirmatively and Alex's words were not lost on Kara, but Kara believed that Julia was in there and reaching was essential to any chance the have at beating the world killers. Kara turned to her sister " yes but what if there's a part of her that Isn't? If I can get her to be Julia again doesn't that mean that there's someone we can work with? This is not telling us anything, but Julia might." Alex looked at the determined look of her sister knowing full well there was no convincing her otherwise "we can try it your way" Kara nodded gladly that Alex relented, but in typical Alex fashion but a stipulation on the deal " when our way fails we try m way" Kara nodes and the two sisters walk away
Alex and Kara enter the cell where Julia was being held. Kara steps forward while Alex tentatively stands back as Kara talks with Julia. " Hi Julia. you seemed scared at your house earlier, and i totally understand that and i'm here to help you." before Kara could continue she was cut off by Julia's menacing laughter " Julia is not my name" Kara looks tentatively at Julia "Okay what would you like me to call you?" Julia turns to Kara " I am the scalding light. I am the flood that sweeps always sins. I am the word and cry of justice." before she could continue Alex cuts her off " yeah would you mind just condensing that a little bit? Kara turns to her sister giving her stern look at the outburst. Kara then turns back to Julia for her to continue " I am Purity. Kara nodes `` nice to meet you purity i'm gonna to call you Julia, though. Is that okay? Just I met her first, and she is who I'd really like to talk to actually." Purity contemplates what Kara said "call me what you will, Kryptonian." After a few more minutes of going back and forth between Kara and purity Alex had enough and began to assert herself. Julia turns to Alex and after a little more Alex was at her wits end with the uncooperative nature of Julia or rather purity so Alex menacingly looks at Purity " I know that look. You think you're smarter than me, that you're stronger than me, which is fine. I mean you're entitled to your own opinion. It'll change in time though. Because after days, weeks, months in here, you're gonna feel like i peeled your skin off and saw everything underneath." it was clear that Kara and Alex would get nothing out of purity both decided to step back and regroup to give it another shot soon.
It was time for Alex to give her plan a shot seeing as Kara's yielded no result other then purity mocking them. Alex starts by talking about Julia's best friend Vinita Ripson trying to see if she can goad purity into an emotional response. The effort fell on deaf ears as purity just shrugged it off mentioning to Alex about not caring about humans in comparison to her or Kara. As ALex kept pushing the situation Purity had enough of the constant onslaught of questions about Julia Freeman's life that now she began to take an aggressive tone and posture " you imagine i care about humans just because you do? Will you care when I tear open your bones and rip out your soft parts?" Alex undeterred by the outburst remained defiant " you're never going to get that chance because you are gonna sit in that cell until I say so. You want to talk about insides? Cause you are gonna have eight different government agencies fighting over who's going to dissect you." It was at this comment that Kara had enough of the Alex method "All right, let's speak outside, Agent Danvers" Alex undeterred continued " you're not a god. You're just meat and bone" Alex did not stop till Kara yelled her name causing the agent to look at her sister and eventually follow her sister out of the cell. Alex upset that Kara pulled her out " why are you fighting me so hard on this? You realize that purity is just toying with you, right? Clearly upset at the naivety of Kara in this situation. Kara fired back at her sister " if we have a chance to save Julia, we have to take it." Alex now upset that Kara continues down her current course " no matter how much evidence piles up saying that you are wrong you always hope. Purity is a world killer, and there's two others out there just like her, endangering lives, and your feelings are costing us time." Alex storms off unwilling to listen to Kara anymore.
Winn was in his lab when he realized that the cache crystal was activated and the readings were going off the charts. The crystal was emanating a low energy sonic pulse then from out of nowhere the crystal released a sonic blast disabling the buildings power grid. In the cell Kara is talking with purity when the blast knocks out the power dampeners of the cell allowing purity to use her powers sending Kara all the way across the room knocking the Kryptonian out cold. Purity then escaped and made her way towards Winn's lab to take the crystal. On the way she used her sonic power to immobilize all who stood in her way . Purity would come face to face with Winn and grabbed the crystal sending a sonic pulse that sent Winn flying. Purity then left and was attacked by the DEO security force which she quickly dispatched with her sonic them threw the wall. Purity then flew away and escaped the DEO with the crystal.
On the other side of town at the private airfield owned by Drax industries Overgirl and wonder woman looked on assessing their surroundings. The two waited for batwoman to arrive not knowing the state the redhead would be in. to her credit Diana was impressed having expected Batwoman to have gone in solo. A few minutes later the two women felt the air start to stir and looked up to see a jet plane decloak and land in front of them and out came Batwoman. Kate was annoyed that the two women took their sweet time getting there. Kate approached the three " took you two long enough" the snarky attitude was nothing new and both had come to accept that it was just part of Kate's charm. Kate informed Diana and Overgirl that the shipments are stored in those warehouses to the north of the airport compound and that they are moved out every evening to a secret location. The three devised their plan of attack and went for it. They got into the warehouse easy enough and saw the shipments being loaded up on trucks with about 2 dozen guards around the trucks themselves and even more on the perimeter. Now Diana knew that Kiara and Kate are somewhat kindred spirits in the sense that if anyone thinks Kiara is Kate Kane and she saw the look that both had on their faces and knew what they wanted to do. Then both looked at the Amazon who gave a resigned nod and drew her sword. The guard down near the trucks knew nothing of what was about to happen to them. The loaders were loading the last of the shipment onto the trucks when all of a sudden a flash grenade was dropped and exploded in front of them, stunning them all. It was a sure certainty that if you could read the minds of each of those guards they would be asking god what they did to deserve to be fighting the Scarlett knight, a kryptonian and an amazon princess at the same time. Before any of the guards got a shot of the three descended upon them and in a matter of seconds 10 men were already dispatched. Overgirl was toying with them as 6 men emptied there magazines to no avail while Overgirl used her super breath to blow the 6 men threw wall giving a content smirk getting an eye roll from her girlfriend who was putting the scope of her Amazonian training to good use fighting successfully 6 on one. Likewise Batwoman finally got to release some pent rage and frustration using the full range of her utility belt from batarangs sonic bombs, her fists were all on display. In the end the three of them dispatched the whole contingent, the guards both inside and those who joined from the outside and the loaders all stood little chance and bodies lay all over the warehouse as a result. Kiara looked at the carnage and then at the other two "well that's the most fun i have had in awhile" Diana once again ee rolled and Kate nodded in agreement. The woman surveyed the trucks seeing loads of dozens boxes stuffed with the blue flower. Kate then went into the office to find the manifests which proved to be useless as they all pointed to the deliveries being taken to Drax industries corporate headquarters in downtown. Batwoman's frustration started to get the better of her and started to lash out letting out a feral scream of fury and putting a hole in the nearest wall. Both Diana and Kiara both understood her rage; this was the best lead they had and even this still has not gotten them any closer to finding the green hand and poison ivy. Then Diana and Kiara started getting alerts from the DEO about purity's escape and her current location being the subway based on the tracker Winn put on the crystal. That statement then caught Kate's attention " what did you just say?" Diana and Kiara both looked at Kate "what did you say right now" Diana said the world killer that the DEO captured escaped. Kate shook her head " no I mean about the crystal?" Kiara then chimed " Winn put a tracker on it thinking something like this might happen" kate then smiled " thats it all delivery trucks like this are equipped with a tracker so customers can see the location of there package to see where there package is. If they have a gps location record of each truck then maybe we can pinpoint the true location." Diana and Kiara looked at each other about the revelation Kiara told Diana to stay here with Kate while she flies back to the city to help the DEO fight purity partly because if Reign showed she wanted round two.
The fight at the subway station was not going the greatest purity to one one's surprise knock Mon El out and had weakened Kara considerably. J'onn was holding up the roof and to make things worse Reign had arrived making their odds of winning the fight impossible taking down Alex. Before Reign could strike the killing blow to Alex in front of Kara she heard an all to familiar sound. Taking her foot of Alex then she heard "well well well i have been praying for this moment for a long time and looks like christmas came early" from the same hole in the roof that Reign entered Overgirl descended " well now that you beat the B team or in the case of Mon El the C team how do you fancy your chances against the A team world killers" As the defeated members of team supergirl and other onlookers look on Overgirl took her battle stance as did reign and purity. Purity was the first one to make a move sending a hellacious scream at overgirl destroying everything in its path. Purity stopped the attack but to the shock of both reign and Purity Overgirl stood unmoved and unfazed " is that the best you have well please allow me to retort" then before either of the world killers could respond Overgirl used her super speed to grab a manhole cover that feel when reign came threw the roof and broke it into two pieces sending both halves at the world killers reign easily dodged but pruity still not used to her powers took the shot and was sent flying into the wall. With the distraction Overgirl then attack Reign hitting her dead center with a knee to the chest sending her flying back. Not letting up like last time Kiara followed it up with a leg sweep while reign was in the air Kiara hit her with a power laser blast. Kiara then heard purity coming behind her easily evading the kick from behind and grabbing her leg and sending her into the tunnels wall. Kiara knew that fighting both head on would not be a winning strategy so she needed to keep them divided. She once again turned her attention to Reign who at that moment flew right at Overgirl with lethal intent which Overgirl was all to willing to oblige the both met in a hellacious crash sending both skidding backwards but it was overgirl who recovered quickly and was on reign in an instant unloading a barrage of strikes catching the worldkiller off balance. Reign did what she could but inevitably Overgirl connected, sending her into the wall. Kiara picked her by the head and slammed her back into the wall and unloaded a flurry of punched right into reigns core, and to the shock of all for the first time since the world killers appeared reign coughed blood up Kiara chucked enjoying herself at this point "well look at that you do bleed not very godlike of you i have to say" However Kiara's gloating allowed purity to get involved and threw a beam at overgirl which she caught in mid air. However this allowed both purity and Reign to use their Heat ray Kiara responded in kind using her own. The heat ray blast met in the middle and to everyone's shock Overgirl was still holding her own but the combined power of both purity and reign began to take its toll and they started to force Overgirl back. However overgirl refusing to yield gave everything she had releasing a bone shattering scream forcing the world killers back. Eventually the built up power of the three heat beams erupted causing a bright light. When Kiara recovered the world killers were gone angering her knowing full well she had them both on the ropes, but pleased with herself that were team supergirl failed she single handedly took on two world killers and caused Reign the same figure that almost killed kara and injured Diana to bleed. On the outside looking team supergirl was slightly shocked at the statement Overgirl made and to few like Mon El who still did not trust Kara's doppelganger was a little unnerved.
Back at the warehouse Kate and Diana continued to try and find the Gps locations of the trucks which like everything else proved useless until Kate noticed something. Some of the locations were in the middle of nowhere, and that was enough for Kate to know that this was more than likely the location or at least another lead. Kate and Diana agreed to look into these locations. Kate and Diana both made it back to the batplane and flew to the closest location of the two. Kate landed the plane a little bit aways to not be detected and Diana and her walked the rest of the way. When they both arrived and the location they saw a small group of men guarding the entrance to a bunker. They found a small ventilation shaft to the right of the door and both slipped in undetected. Once inside the subterranean location Kate and Diana began to survey the location. They found a room lined with boxes of the flower solving that mystery. Going deeper into the location they discovered a lab. Kate and Diana inspected it and found dozens of canisters filled with a dark blue liquid. The flower was being ground into a fine power and mixed with an unknown chemical to form a hybrid substance . Kate was looking on the computer in the lab and found video journals from one of the scientists detailing all the experiments and tests they conducted on various specimens from rats to humans, and to Diana and Kate's horror in every test the specimen died in mere minutes. The toxin once aerosolized would seize the subjects nervous system causing the subject to convulse and spasm till they break their own back In some instances on the exterior the skin of the subject would begin to deteriorate, a truly horrible way to die. Kate turns to Diana "this has to be the bioweapon that the green hand plans to use, and it's worse than i thought. We have to destroy the lab" However from what Kate sees this is not all of the compound, they must have moved some to another location after creating it." Kate and Diana both agreed they needed to destroy this place before they could make any more of the toxin. Kate began to download the journals in the hopes that maybe an antidote can be created to counter the toxin. But she discovered something else in the chemical they used to create the toxin was derived from the blood samples of what the scientist called patient x. It was the combination of the unique properties of patient X and the powder of the flower that formed the toxin. Kate was looking and asking could it be her. The scientist referenced extracting the blood sample from a nearby cell to the lab. Kate turned to Diana start destroying what you can. I have to check something before Diana could protest. Kate was gone. Kate for the first time in a long time was hopeful when she reached the cell she dispatched the two guard standing watch. Kate stood in front of the door not knowing what she would find on the other side. Diana joined her already setting into motion the plan as alarms started to ring across the facility she opened the small window to find a dark room and saw a silhouette in the back. Kate opened the door and walked followed by Diana and what they found stunned both of them.
A little later Kiara lands on the balcony of her shared penthouse apartment all too happy to be home after listening to Mon El drone on about her and his insecurities that she can actually fight a world killer to submission. This was rejected by the majority of the team simply glad one of them can fight the world killers with success all the same kiara wanted to get out as quick as possible. She walked into the living room and saw Diana still clad in her wonder woman outfit. Kiara walks over to tell Diana about the fight, but Diana stops her " i need to tell you something" Kiara stops and lets Diana continue " after you left Kate and i combed over all the data from the GPS and we came up with 2 locations of interest and decided that we would inspect one of them. What we found was a lab where they refine and create the toxin, but kate found something else and this I have to show you." Kiara did ot know what Diana wanted to show her till they arrived at there guest bedroom and found Kate sitting next to the bed and to kiara's shock now understood what why Diana needed to show her on the bed was the weakened comatose form of Poison Ivy aka Pamela Isley.
