Chapter 15 The Octopus and the Sun
A few months after the events on Themyscira, the sirens had become a well established machine for the people of National City. Since their arrival National Cities crime rate had fallen considerably many of the mobs that composed the national city under ground either left the city to look for new stomping grounds and those that had the illusions of grandeur that they could fight and win where crushed systematically by the Sirens or the national city police force with its newly appointed commissioner of police Maggie Sawyer at the helm. The city had even been named the safest place in the United States and one of the top locations to relocate and raise a family because of the safety of the city. As a result of the steep decline in crime the members of team supergirl and the sirens were actually able to have lives that did not revolve around crime. Lena and Kara, Kiara and Diana, Kate and Pamela got closer in their relationships; they could go out in public on date nights, be seen at the occasional business events or charity functions that would pop up here and there. They would all become regular patrons at Diana's art exhibits that were quickly becoming the talk of the town for there stunning portrayal of ancient greek art and culture specifically pieces that the world had never seen many of them treasures of themyscira that Hippolyta allowed Diana to display which turned to be a far greater battle then any fight with Hades but eventually the queen relented.
Lena and Kate resumed the friendly business rivalry coming up with bigger and bolder products to compete with each other. With Pamela's help, Kane Industries had become the pioneer of advanced Horticulture creating massive biodomes which allow plants from all around the world to grow in areas that would normally not be conducive for them to grow normally. Since discovery would allow plants and fauna to grow, providing much needed food and resources to areas of the world plagued by drought and famine, saving the lives of many by ensuring that families wouldn't go hungry and kids would not starve. Pamela had become the world's foremost knowledge on anything plant-related. For a while it looked like Kate had won the competition with fellow businesswoman putting Kane Industries firmly above L Corp. that is until Lena had announced that she was financing a brand new energy project started by a Doctor Octavia Octavius, a brilliant scientist in the energy field specializing in fusion. The good doctor says that she could generate a fusion reaction akin to the power of the son and would be able to use this reaction to generate clean and sustainable energy for the masses of the world. The discovery, if successful, would change the world, giving millions cheap energy to illuminate their homes.
In short everything was going great but if one thing is certain in the lives of all heroes this was the calm before the storm to be sure and all good things must eventually come to an end. It had been a few months since Lena stood in front of L Corp tower with Dr Octavius at her side revealing this revolutionary new project. Lena and L corp had invested 55 million dollars into this project plus acquiring tritium, the essential component for the fusion to succeed. Lena had invited a reporter and of course Kara would be there to cover the event for Catco. She even invited Kate to see this potential crowning achievement and of course Leslie and Pamela followed suit, joining Kate and various L Corp investors . For her part Octavia invited members of the scientific community to witness this breakthrough. The crowd was assembled in the room outside the lab enjoying the revelry and the growing anticipation of what could prove to be one of the greatest moments in modern science. The conversation was interrupted when doctor Octavius began to introduce the event " Ladies and Gentlemen, thank you for coming this afternoon. My husband Russell and I would like to welcome you, but first has anybody lost a roll of hundred dollar bills wrapped in a rubber band because we found the rubber band.`` This got a small chuckle from the crowd of onlookers. Dr Octavius chuckled to herself " I am sorry that's a terrible joke. Sincerely thank you all for coming today to witness the birth of a new Fusion based energy source. Safe renewable energy, and cheap electricity for everyone. Now let me introduce my assistance." Octavia turned around and walked to a covered apparatus, and pulled the cover off revealing 4 metal tentacle-type arms " these four arms were developed and programmed for the sole purpose of creating successful fusion; they are impervious to heat and magnetism." the waste band locked itself around Octavias waste and the spinal section of the apparatus rested a top her spine, and suddenly like an acupuncture trip from hell all the little pins injected right into the doctors spinal column causing her to give a light wince and the crowd to grown and recoil imagining the pain of what had just happened. The crowd watched in amazement as Octavia looked in deep thought and concentration, but then realized that at the same time the arms were reacting, and one by one the arms roose almost mimicking the doctors hand gestures lifting as her arms lifted as well " these smart arms are controlled by my brain through a neuro link. Nano wires field directly into my cerebellum allowing me to use these arms to control fusion reactions in an environment no human hand can enter." one of the reporters spoke up, " Doctor, if the artificial intelligence in the arms is as advanced as you suggest, couldn't that make you vulnerable?'' Octavia smirked and turned around " How right you are which is why i developed this inhibitor chip to protect my higher brain function it means i maintain control of the instead of them controlling me. Now onto the main event give me the blue light Russell.`` The doctor led the crowd to the Fusion apparatus to begin the fusion process. Octavia began to go to work " the precious tritium is the fuel that makes this project go. There are only twenty five pounds of it in the world. I would like to thank Lena Luthor and L corp for providing it.'' Lena gave a contented small smile at the comment, not wanting to get cocky but still fully cognizant that so much could still go wrong. Then the show started and octavia started to arm the machine and various beams of light started to shoot out at the small piece of tritium activating it and suddenly a small micro sun appeared in place of the tritium. One of Octavia's lab assistants then said " Doctor we have a successful fusion reaction" the crowd started to cheer and one of the reporters whispered in Lena's ear this is an achievement beyond your brother's dreams leaving Lena with a thousand watt smile plastered on her face. One of the other assistance then said " we are producing a 1000 megawatt surplus " Octavia staring deep into her creation let the hubris flow " the power of the sun in the palm of my hand" However unfortunately just like the story of icarus flying too close to the sun the doctors dream was going to turn into a profound night mare. Kate was sweating a little seeing the success right in front of her, looking to Pamela with a concerned look that illustrated that this might have just beaten them, but then she realized something strange: Pamela's ear rings were starting to motion towards the machine almost like they were attracted to it. Kate looked down at a small penny on the floor and started to move as well then suddenly pulled into the sun. She then looked up and all the lights and chandeliers started to move as well. Kate realized something was not right. She turned to pamela and Leslie and told them to get out something was wrong she was going to turn to Lena and kara when everything started to go crazy and all the jewelry and watches the crowd had was then ripped from their persons and sucked into the sun, and then the alarms started to go off. Octavia tried to calm the crowd " keep calm everyone its just a spike it will soon stabilize. Kara looked to Lena who motioned for Kara to go, knowing this might be a supergirl situation. Lena and the others then started to clear the room when they saw a huge solar flair break the containment field and destroy part of the ceiling raining down debry. Lena then tries to get a reluctant Octavia to shut down the machine, but Octavia refuses, still thinking that she could control the unstable Fusion reaction. Lena heard Kate shout her name and as she turned around she saw one of the Lab equipment coming right at her bracing herself for the impact; she was whisked away by the arriving supergirl putting her down next to Kate and the others. Kare then turns to shut down the machine, going straight for the power generators. Octavia turned and saw supergirls move and used one of the arms to swat supergirl out of the air sending her into a wall with a sickening thud in a mess of brick and masonry. Then another spike occurred, this one breaking apart the frame of the giant glass balcony window, shattering the glass and sending large pieces of glass across the room. Octavia was able to use the arms for protection, but Russell was not so lucky and one shard struck him in the neck severing his jugular causing him to bleed out. Octavia shocked by witnessing the death of her husband lost focus and was hit by another loose spike destroying the inhibitor chip and incapacitating the Doctor. Kara saw her chance and destroyed the generators causing the machine to fail and the fusion reaction to implode on itself stopping it. The devastation was obvious, everyone was outside of the building when emergency services arrived. Kate, Pamela, Leslie, and supergirl were talking realizing that lena was sitting on the curb her head in her hand clearly distraught about the failure of the project ot be sure but the death of Russell octavius and the major injures to Octavia had to weigh heavily on the CEO's mind. Maggie had arrived at the scene to check on her friends and to access the situation. Maggie had informed the crew that Octavia was taken to National City General to have surgery in the hopes of removing the arms from her spine.
At the operating room of National city general, the surgical team led by doctor Jared Kalu prepared for the difficult operation, breaking out the heavy equipment for the procedure. The Doctor explained to the team that as a result of the solar spike the arms had been fused to various parts of Octavia's spine. Dr Kalu prepared to make the first cut and activated the saw when one of the arms slipped from the hook that held it up causing the doctor to stop for a brief second. Dr Kalu then began again but this time realized something in the reflection of the visor of one of the other doctors startling him and causing him to turn around just in time to be met with a massive strike from the free arm. Suddenly and without warning the arms started to come alive, picking the doctors one at a time. At the beginning the OR was filled with the sounds of terrified screams and the struggles for life but soon nothing but the erie silence of death. Octavia started to wake up to the sight of the carnage that remained. Octavia was trying to make sense of what had just happened. She heard a series of voices in the deep recesses of her brain talking to her filling her head with all these negative thought, but then her eyes shot wide opened and she reached for the inhibitor chip realizing that it was destroyed meaning that the voices in her head right now was that of the arms sending waves into her cerebellum controlling her. The arms forced her to get up and leave the operating room, destroying the garage door leading her to the street into oncoming traffic, forcing her to toss an oncoming car.
The news of what happened at the hospital made its way to the team and Maggie had put out a city-wide APB for Octavia. At the DEO the team was also trying to track her down; Lena was clearly trying to figure out how to help her friend in her hour of need, feeling somewhat responsible for the accident and the death of Russell. However they, like the police, were having little success tracking her down. Lena came up with the idea that they are not just looking for Octavia. She reasoned that the arms were now in control so they were actually up against five brains and that Octavia was now acting against her will and could be anywhere in the city now, and had the means to do some damage. Then suddenly the alarms started to go off indicating that a crime was happening. It looked like a bank robbery was in progress by an unknown assailant. Diana and Kate were out in the field and would be the first to arrive at the Bank.
Batwoman and Wonder Woman arrived at the bank where there was chaos. People were running out of the bank in all directions then from the front of the crashed a desk which then hit a car putting it on its side. Both Heroines then saw the culprit was indeed Dr Octavius, walking outside the bank with money in hand and a hostage, ensuring that the police didn't try anything. Diana and Kate readied themselves for battle, catching the good doctor's attention. "Batwoman and Wonder Woman here to save the day, but no one can stand in the way of Doctor Octopus." before they knew it, Doc Ock grabbed the nearest car and tossed it at the two heroes. Kate instinctively jumped out of the way, and Diana used Triam and swiftly cut the car in half, but then one of the arms surprised Diana and grabbed her leg and threw her into one of the shops. Then before Kate realized it, the arms were after her, using her agility and evasive tactics to evade the barrage of strikes from the arms. Octavia then grabbed the door of a nearby car and then the truck and threw the door first using it as a distraction then the trunk hitting its mark dead center in Batwomans chest sending the redhead into a wall more than likely breaking a rib or two. Diana tried to sneak attack with Triam, but was swiftly intercepted by one of the arms grabbing the battle hammer and swinging Diana and sending her flying. Diana barely had time to avoid a flying car that was thrown at her. Octavia then used the arms to grab some huge metal pipes of a truck and use them as projectiles in one of the pipes. One of the pipes broke the super beams of one of the buildings and part of it started to fall with people inside the ground floor. Diana jumped into action moving inside to support the ceiling getting the people time to evacuate. Octavia used this moment to make her escape, starting to climb the building. Mid way up one of the tentacles picked up an object moving very quickly toward them. Octavia knew in National City that can only mean two things, and honestly she hoped for Supergirl. Full well Knowing that Overgirl is far more of a loose cannon and very willing to risk innocent lives compared to supergirl. Then, however, right in front of the doctor, a laser burst, causing her to lose her grip on the wall. She was able to catch herself and maintain her grip on the money and her hostage. She turned and to her displeasure the worst case scenario hovering a few feet away was Overgirl. Octavia would be lying if she said her ass was not a bit puckered at the sight of the person that the national city underworld dubbed the angel of death. Overgirl looked at the Doc Ock " surrender Dr Octavius so we can get you some help" Ocyavia looked at the Kryptonian " never i am not going to let anybody stand in the way of my dream i have worked too hard to let anybody stand in my way of my life's work." Octavia took her hostage and tossed her at Overgirl hoping to cause a distraction, allowing her to escape. Kiara went to save the falling hostage. She saved the young woman from hitting the ground then turned her attention back towards the doctor. Diana was struggling to keep the building from falling but there were still a few people still in the building so Diana did the only thing that she could do " KIARA !" Kiara stopped her pursuit of Doc Oct and turned to the origin of the yell and she saw Diana falling to keep the building up and then as quick as she could flew towards Diana and pushed her out of the way letting the building fall on her as soon as she pushed Diana clear. The building came down on Kiara leaving nothing but a pile of rubble, all the civilians clear of the building thanks to Diana. A few seconds later Kiara crashed out of the pile hovering over the scene upset that Doc Ock escaped but relieved that Diana was okay. She landed next to Diana to check if she was fine and other than some bruises and cuts from the fight she was okay to relief of Kiara. They were broken out of their moment when they heard someone say " I am getting too old for this shit" . Both turned to see Kate in pretty rough shape from the fight, clutching her rib area.
Back at DEO headquarters Kate was taken to the Medical bay to get treated for her wounds. Diana and Kiara joined the others in which Diana told the group her observations. Diana confirmed what Lena and the others had been thinking. The arms are indeed controlling Dr Octavius but each arm is almost like its own entity essentially making Octavia five times as smarter and stronger then the usual average criminal making her quite dangerous. However it was what Kiara said that really unsettled the team: " the good doctor said that no one would stand in the way of her dream." Lena stood up knowing immediately " that means she is going to try and rebuild the fusion machine again. It makes sense why she is robbing banks for cash. She needs money to buy equipment for it." the severity of the situation was getting greater by the minute there was not one person in the room that did not know what happened at the lab and that was from a tiny little piece of tritium if she were to get her hands on an even greater amount it could have cataclysmic results for National City. Lena stepped away from the meeting to go to the roof to think. It was no secret that Lena took this pretty hard before but now with the present circumstances Octavia Octavius one of the world's greatest minds is now a criminal that may destroy the city with her project all because she was trying to match Kate in a sort of vanity project. It sickened her how she reminded herself of Lex and his vanity projects. Lena heard the door of the roof open knowing probably who it was and was confirmed when she felt the all too familiar arms that she loved encircle her center and a head rest on her shoulder " you can't blame yourself Lena it was a freak accident what happened in the Lab. remember Octavia didn't want to stop it while she had the chance. Her hubris caused this, not you." Lena appreciated what Kara was trying to do " Kara if it was not for my blind ambition in wanting to one up Kate none of this would have happened i pushed Octavia to go for it some would even say i pushed her to fast and mistakes were made now a man is dead, Octavia is a criminal, L Corp is taking a big loss and the city maybe in danger." Lena removed herself from Kara's embrace and went back inside. Kara really did feel for Lena because it's one of the things Kara loves about Lena is that she wears her heart on her sleeves, but in moments like this Lena does take it hard.
The team has been trying to track down Octavia and time was critical because if she is able to build the machine again the damage would be massive. However, thanks to Lena, the one major component for Octavia's project was the Tritium. Because of how rare it is there are a finite number of places that Octavia can get it. Of the 25 pounds in the word, L Corp controls 8 pounds, Edge Global control 7 pounds, Wayne Industries controls 5 pounds, Palmar technologies controls 4 pounds and the remaining 1 pound is scattered among various companies. Of these companies only two are in National City L Corp and Edge Global. Lena had already taken precautions to secure her quantity of tritium, moving it to the DEO. However, trying to secure Edge Globals would be a chore and a half considering the relationship the team had with the companies CEO Morgan Edge. Maggie arrived at the DEO headquarters to tell the team what they knew was going to happen. Edge refused to let the tritium go because of how valuable it is, but did ensure the commissioner that they would increase the security around it, but wanted to handle this internally. Edge global would be Doc Oaks' best chance at gaining the Tritium.
In the Med bay Kate was still bed ridden after the fight with Doc Ock. Ivy had been staying with her since she came to be the perfect little nurse for her girlfriend. Leslie was also in the Med bay but for a completely different reason. Since their return from Themyscira with Tala Leslie has been by the purple-haired sorceress' bedside. It was clear to the team that Leslie Willis the Hard core punk rocker slash former villainess turned hero has a crush on the purple haired woman. It was no secret that since Leslie started working at Kane Industries with Pamela and Kate the three had become thick as thieves. However Leslie was still the only one in the group that did not have a significant other in the group. Lena had Kara, Diana had Kiara, Kate had Pamela, and even Sam had Alex. Even though they were not official, everyone knew that they were practically a couple. Leslie was the only one that had none of it, and it weighed on the woman now more than ever seeing how happy all her friends are and obviously not wanting to be a third wheel all the time. Pamela took the time to go check on Leslie while Kate rested " Hey Lez how you feeling" Leslie looked at the red head and gave her a small smile " Okay i guess just wondering you know. I spend all this time here when i am not working, fighting crime with you guys or working at Kane industries, and i wonder if its doing any good. Its like the world is laughing at me. Honestly, a girl i finally like is in a coma that no one knows if she will ever wake up from since we pulled her from the mirror.`` Pamela understood Leslies predicament no one knew the effects of pulling Tala from the mirror not even Tala herself so no one could have expected the trap that Faust had put in the mirror that if someone other than him were to free Tala it would have negative effects on Tala. What Hippolyta had told them was that Faust's trap exhausted Tala powers and her energy force,and it was a true testament to the strength of the sorceress that she survived at all, but it would take time for the sorceress to regain all her strength however Hippolyta could not say when or if just that it would depend on her. Those words haunted Leslie because she knows full well Tala may not come out of this. Pamela put a hand on Leslie's shoulder to comfort the woman " Leslie you got to live in hope you know Kate lived in Hope for years. Everyone told her it was pointless loving Poison Ivy she was just an ecoterrorist who would no sooner kill her then love her, and honestly they were right i was soon different back then. I played Judge, jury, and executioner at times to those that would harm the environment doing horrible things. I didn't believe in things like Love until I met Kate Kane believing her company was part of a plan to level a forest but by the end of the night we slept together and things went from there. However it was not until she rescued me that i realized maybe there is more than this world then being an ecoterrorist that i could help the world more as part of Kate's company then i ever could doing what i was i have done more for the planet then i ever could as an eco villain, But Lez all that took time it may not seem like it now but the universe tends to reward persistence and brevity." Kate smiled at the green skinned woman and put a hand over her hand on her shoulder giving a silent thank you for her words. Words that honestly she needed to hear. Ivy and Leslie elected not to go with the team to stake out Edge Global, waiting for Doc Ock to strike, knowing that Supergirl, Overgirl, Iron Maiden, J'onn, Alex and a team of DEO agents would be going already. Plus Maggie had police officers and SWAT on standby ready to assist if needed.
The team had every angle of the building secure; it would be quite the magic trick if Doc Ock was able to get into the building without them knowing, and even more so if she got away. However, after hours there was still no sign of Octavia anywhere from above ground or below it. Back at the DEO Pamela and Leslie continued to sit with each other while Kate slept hyped on painkillers. They then hear alarms starting to sound across the facility, causing Pamela and Leslie to get on guard. Both women ran out of the med bay to the main hall of the facility. As they stood there with a team of agents at their backs the ground started to pulsate and crack till with a loud bang the floor exploded and pieces went flying. Livewire and Poison Ivy Then saw metallic arm start to rise and from the dust roose Octavia "well well look what we have here looks like the whole team didn't go stake out Edge global pity." then everything became apparent Ock wanted them to stake out Edge's company leaving the DEO wide open for a sneak attack. Before they knew it Octavia began to attack Ivy and Livewire ducked out of the way but two of the agents shot, sending them crashing through the wall behind them. One by one the agents were picked off one by one by the arms. Leslie and Pamela recomposed themselves and tried their best, but there were no plants in the area so Ivy was limited in her ability to fight. Pamela grabbed one of the guns from one of the downed agents and started to fire at Doc Ock to no avail as the arms perrie all the shots with scary precision. Ivy then dodged another strike by one of the arms. With the Octavia concentrated on Ivy, it allowed Leslie to charge up and launch a bolt of electricity at the doctor, hitting its mark and sending the good doctor flying with a sickening thud. Octavia responded quickly by striking Livewire taking out a beam taking out a section of the ceiling. Livewire evaded the strikes and was able to grab one of the arms and send a surge of electricity shocking the doctor and immobilizing her. It looked like Livewire had beaten the doctor but what she didn't notice was the movement of one of the arms till it was too late and the arm broke into the floor and ripped a water pipe out, drenching Leslie in water causing her short circuit to knock her out. Octavia rose after immobilizing her opposition; they moved to her main target and stood in front of a vault. All four arms grabbed hold of the vault door and yanked it from its hinges and tossed it away like a piece of trash. Octavia entered the vault and saw what she was looking for: the L Cop tritium. Octavia took the tritium and leftas quickly as she could. At Edge Global Kara was with J'onn, Lena, Alex, Kiara and Diana all still waiting for Octavia to make her move. They were getting ready to wrap up when they all got an emergency alert that the DEO was under attack, shocking everyone. While they waited for Octavia to attack she went to where they were the least protected and more than likely stole the tritium from the vault.
After the failure of not being able to stop Octavia from stealing the tritium now came the very real reality that she had everything she needed to build her machine, and there was every reason to believe that she was going to do it in the next few days now that she had the Tritium. Lena and the team were trying to find a way to see if they could track the machine before it went active and caused a lot of damage. What became obvious is that Lena would have to guide them from the DEO because if the machine becomes active Lena would be at the most risk with the Iron Maiden outfit being metal being sucked into the machine. Lena assembles the team and Maggie to discuss her idea " So the Octavia machine is geared to cause a fusion reaction from the activated tritium. That takes a lot of build-up power to charge the lasers that will activate the tritium. Now to this point Octavia has kept it on the down low, and from what we know she has to be in a place where her machine will not raise many questions. However that means that when she goes to activate the machine there is going to be a huge power surge that is going to give her away. The trick is we need to get there before the fusion reaction becomes self sustaining because if that happens we have a whole new set of problems." The team mobilized around the city to be strategically positioned to move on Lena's signal once she tracked down where the energy surge originated. The team was on a watch and wait basis and the wait was not a long one. Lena was monitoring the screens across the city when she saw a peculiar energy surge in the docks area even stranger it was in a condemned area set to be demolished so there should be no activity of this type there. Lena informed everyone and from that point they were on the clock.
At the abandoned warehouse Octavia had the beams charged and began to activate the tritium. However, one of her arms informed her of several intruders approaching the warehouse. Not surprised by this knowing full well that Lena was helping the DEO to track her and Lena being one of the smartest people she knew would have tracked her down once the power surge from the machine revealed her location. The DEO assembled outside the warehouse keeping their guard up, not knowing what tricks the good doctor had in store for them. Supergirl, Overgirl, Alex, J'onn, Ivy, Livewire, and Wonder Woman joined the assembled team of DEO agents. Maggie had a team of police officers ready to back them up if needed. The team entered the warehouse cautious of what may await them. They saw the machine active and the Fusion reaction activated. J'onn went to try and deactivate it, but before he could reach the console right from underneath him one of the metal arms through the ground struck him and sent him flying across the room, knocking him out. Kara catches the knocked-out martian. Overgirl, Wonder Woman, Livewire and Ivy went into action. Octavia started her attack, but even for her trying to attack four targets was a difficult task even with the Martian out of the equation, and Supergirl temporarily out of action. However, from the DEO Lena knew they were running out of time and that octavia was trying to slow them down to give the Machine the opportunity to become self-sustaining. The Machine started to become unstable and it was just like the lab started to absorb the metal of the warehouse gaining mass. Lena radioed the team to tell them of the deteriorating situation. " Kara, Diana, Kiara, Leslie you guys have to stop the machine, the window is closing before we hit the point of no return." Kara flew at the power generator, but before she could make it one of the arms grabbed her leg and pulled her the other way throwing her right at Diana hitting tis mark sending the Kryptonian and the Amazon into one of the metal beams. The whole structure of the warehouse started to come apart and from the outside the DEO and the police could see the situation as the warehouse started to come apart, revealing the fight and the now enlarged fusion reaction. Kiara and Livewire were the only two left standing. Kiara and Leslie were waiting for their moment. " Octavius is not going to let us get near the generator. Lez i will distract her, but i need you to surprise her." Livewire nodded in understanding and Overgirl went into action. Octavia tried to hit Overgirl with the arms, finding it difficult to hit the Kryptonian, finding her more skilled than Supergirl. However, four on one odds were too great even for Overgirl and while Octavia distracted her with two arms she struck her with a third sending her flying. Octavia lifted the downed Kryptonian and with another arm produced a dagger that she modified from a piece of Kryptonite that she stole from the DEO vault as well. " Well it looks like I am going to do something Lex Luthor never could kill a Kryptonian." As she went to strike, Overgirl Livewire materialized out of nowhere lifting up the power cables of the machine and putting them in the path of the dagger, and Octavia struck the cables electrocuting her. Overgirl then proceeds to pull the cables out of the generator severing the connection and sending octavia flying, knocking her out cold.
Leslie helped Kiara to her feet and both realized quickly that even though they severed the connection the machine was now still active. Kiara had contacted Lena to get an answer to what was happening. It was Lena's worst fear that the machine had become self-sustaining and was creating a bigger field of magnetism. Lena did not have much time to think because the bigger it gets the more destructive it gets. Lena then reasoned that maybe the water would neutralize the fusion reaction. She signalled Kiara " Kiara uses the bay and drown the machine that should neutralize it." Kiara understood and lifted off the ground and targeted the supports for the machine and used her heat ray to melt the supports. After destroying three of the four supports the fourth and final one gave way and the Machine started to sink into the harbor, and finally submerged beneath the water and as it sank more and more the magnetic force diminished as it sank. Cheers were heard all around and Kiara called Lena " Lena you will be happy to know that your plan worked, the magnetic force is gone and the machine is at the bottom of the harbor." Hearing this Lena fell into her chair as the room cheered happy that they stopped it. Kiara also said that Maggie had granted them permission to take custody of Octavia.
When Octavia woke up she realized that she could not move any of the arms and looked to see that they were locked inside a restraint meant to hold them and neutralize them. Then she realized that she was not alone and looked in front of her to see LenaLuther right in front of her. " what are you doing here Lena?" Lena stood up " what kind of a friend would i be if i was not here to support you when you needed me." Octavia smirked " Lena i was a means to an end for you nothing more you wanted my project so you can beat kate kane nothing more and i lost everything because of it my husband, my reputation, and my dream all gone. You think you're better than our brother but you're no better than him, once a Luthor, always a Luthor. If i ever get out of here Lena i am coming for you i swear i will end you" lena looked at her glassy eyed " I know that's the arms talking Octavia and i swear to you i am going to replicate the chip and i will free you from there control and we are going to get the old octavia back." With that Lena stepped out of the room. Kara was waiting for Lena and Lena stepped into her girlfriend embrace and let the tears she was holding spill, and kara like the good girlfriend she was just held Lena telling her it's all going to be okay.
