A.N. — September is a month of Gryffindors, it seems. Tomorrow's should be obvious, and I waffled over who to put by her. This unlikeable fellow gets to be a main character's opening act. I hit upon a book/movie discrepancy for this drabble.
261. Cormac McLaggen
With NEWTs being canceled after Dumbledore's death, Cormac McLaggen could not technically graduate Hogwarts. Yes, he could leave, but his qualifications wouldn't be official. And sure, he might be more headstrong and brash than the typical Gryffindor, but even he knew going down that path was more foolhardy than brave.
So Cormac repeated his last year at Hogwarts. There were pluses to going back: Potter and Weasley weren't attending, for one. But having Death Eaters running the show was intolerable. McLaggen, typically known for epitomizing the worst of Gryffindor traits, found himself embracing bravery and spearheading the DA's resistance efforts.
