AMY´S CREEK - S01E01 - WELCOME TO CAPESIDE HIGH

Disclaimer: I don´t own Dawson´s Creek or the characters from it.

Author´s Note: Welcome to this "alternative" Dawson´s Creek spin-off, featuring Jen´s daughter Amy as the title character. I expect to put out an episode here and there, but I have several writing projects going on and a job, I have to tend to, so I won´t be doing a regular schedule. How many episodes I end up writing, all depends on how much interest there is in the series. I love hearing opinions on my work, so please leave a review or comment on it.

I made a few changes to the format to set it aside from the original, the biggest one being the use of a narrators in the episodes and them being shorter than the original, since it´s my experience that long episodes turn people off from reading them. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to check it out and I hope you enjoy the episode!

1. Int. Amy´s Room. Morning.

We fade in and get a look at Amy´s room. It has posters of various popstars and a few movie posters on the wall. Her mirror has pictures of her and her friends, her with Jack and Dougie and her with Joey and Pacey. We see Amy (a pretty 14 year old with long, blonde hair. She clearly takes after her mother) waking up, when the alarm on the phone goes off.

Amy (voice over):

August 14th, 2017. The day I started High School.

Amy sits up and stretches. The door opens and Jack pops in. He´s become a full blown "Silver Fox", but it somehow suits him.

Jack:

Time to get up, Honey. You don´t want to be late for your first day.

Amy:

I wish, I had your enthusiasm..

He sits down on the bed next to her.

Jack:

I´m so proud of you.

Amy:

Dad!

Jack:

You´re becoming a woman. This is a big step.

Amy:

It´s not like it takes any effort. All I have to do is exist.

Jack:

Your mom was a cynic too. You remind me more of her, with every day that goes by.

Amy:

Was she popular in school?

Jack:

Kind of. She was a cheerleader, you know?

Amy:

I saw the pictures. I´m trying my best to repress it!

Jack:

The main thing her and I learned there, was that the world isn´t all bad. It´s all about who you spend your time with.

Amy:

Thanks for the pep talk. Can I get dressed now?

Jack:

Sure thing, Sweetie.

He leaves her and she gets out of bed. She walks to her mirror and picks out an old picture of "The Gang". Joey, Dawson, Pacey, Jen, Jack and Andie.

Amy:

I wonder if my High School life will be like theirs.

Amy puts the picture back and starts getting dressed.

OPENING CREDITS

2. Int. Kitchen. Morning.

Amy is eating breakfast with Dougie and Jack.

Amy (voice over):

Let´s get one thing out the way. I have two dads and no mom. Well, I sort of have a mom, but I´ll get back to that. My mom died of a disease called Pulmonary Congestion, when I was two. It was her wish that Jack, that´s the handsome grey haired one, would be the one to raise me. I´ve heard every comment you can imagine for it, but I don´t care. I love them and they´re my parents. So what, if they´re both guys?

Amy:

Can you hand me the milk, Dougie?

Dougie:

Sure.

He hands her the milk.

Amy (voice over):

I only call them dad, when I´m alone with one of them. It avoids confusion.

Dougie:

Joey has to drive you to school, but you don´t mind, do you?

Amy:

No, not at all.

Amy looks pleased to get some "Joey Time".

3. Ext. Yard. Morning.

Amy comes out. Her and Joey smile at each other.

Joey:

Morning, Sunshine!

Amy:

Morning, Aunt Joey.

Amy (voice over):

That´s Josephine, or Joey for short. You know how I said, that I sort of have a mom. Well, that "sort of mom" is Joey. Her and my real mom were close and she can´t have children of her own, so she´s sort of adopted me. Some people think it´s a weird arrangement, but I think, I´m lucky. Most kids are lucky to have two good parents. I have three.

She gets in the car.

4. Int. Car. Morning.

Joey is rocking along to the radio and her good mood is almost infectious to Amy, who joins in.

Amy (voice over):

If my future class mates could see me, they´d think I was the biggest dork ever. It´s not that I care what they think of me, but I hope, I get fewer comments, than I got in Junior High. But you have to act a little silly sometimes, to deal with all the other BS.

Joey:

Smile for me!

Amy does.

Joey:

Meet the world with a smile and it will smile back at you.

Amy:

It´s that simple, huh?

Joey:

I don´t like to see you becoming the angry girl, I was. There´s nothing wrong with complaining, when it´s warranted. But you´ll enjoy it a lot more, if you try to see the glass as half full.

Amy:

Even if people are jerks?

Joey:

You´re bound to run into a few, but just ignore them. They´re not worth your time.

Amy (voice over):

She loves to impart her wisdom on me. Most of what she says makes sense and I know, she means well. Her and uncle Pacey and yes, that is his real name, are separated right now. I know, it gets to her when she´s alone, but she tries her best not to make me depressed over it too. I really hope, they get back together. I´ve literally never met two people more perfect for each other.

Joey:

Plus, you get to start out with a nice boyfriend. You won´t spend the first year pining over a guy, like I did.

Amy:

Do you think, we´ll still be together this time next year?

Joey:

It´s hard to say, but I´m rooting for you.

Amy doesn´t look convinced.

5. Ext. School. Morning.

Marco Gutierrez (a handsome 14 year old latino boy) comes up to the school and is met by 14 year old Paige Malone, a cute brunette, who knows how to work her looks on the boys.

Amy (voice over):

Little did I know, that a fierce cougar had already stolen my boyfriend.

Paige:

Hey Marco. We need to talk.

Marco:

I know, Paige.

Paige:

Let´s find somewhere private.

They walk off together.

6. Int. Broom Closet. Morning.

Paige and Marco are making out.

Marco (voice over):

I was doing fine with Amy. We´d known one another since we were eight and knew everything there was to know about each other. I think, that´s why making out with her was never as hot, as it could have been. The one time we went to second base, it felt like I was violating my sister or something. I should have dumped her, but how could I do that to her? I didn´t want to break her heart! Then one night, Paige caught me at a weak moment at a party and seduced me.

Paige (voice over):

I seduced you? Please! You´d been after me for weeks, because virginal little Amy wasn´t doing it for you and you wanted a real girlfriend. You wanted it just as much, as I did!

Amy (voice over):

This is Paige´s version of that conversation in the broom closet.

They stop kissing and Paige looks upset.

Paige:

We have to tell Amy. I´m not gonna be the other woman anymore!

Marco:

I will, when the time is right. But what´s your hurry? Doesn´t it turn you on just a little, that we´re doing something, we shouldn´t?

Paige:

No! Cheating is wrong!

7. Int. Broom Closet. Morning.

This time it´s Marco, who´s upset and almost on the verge of tears.

Amy (voice over):

Here´s Marco´s version.

Marco:

We have to tell her. Please, Paige. I love her and she´s my best friend in the whole wide world!

Paige:

You´re not telling her anything, mister! I get off on sticking it to miss Holier Than Thou! The thought of her finding us together only makes me hornier!

She starts kissing him and he´s powerless against her charms.

Amy (voice over):

The truth probably lies somewhere in between. What ever the case, it was a dick move of him. I expected it from the likes of her, but I thought he was better than that. I guess, I was wrong.

8. Int. Hallway. Morning.

Amy and her BFF Ash (a cute and quirky looking 14 year old) are trying to find their classroom.

Ash:

We´re gonna be late!

Amy:

Let me look at the map again!

She looks over the map.

Amy (voice over):

That´s my best friend Ashley. We´ve known each other since kindergarten and we spent pretty much the entire summer together. She´s like the sister, I´ll never have. I love her, but she has a tendency to worry too much.

Ash:

They´ll give us detention, if we´re late!

Amy:

Chill! You´re not helping by panicking. I think, it´s up here on the right.

Ash:

I hope so!

They hurry up the hallway and head into a classroom.

9. Int. Classroom. Morning.

Amy and Ash come in, just before the teacher (ms. Adkins, a friendly looking woman in her 40´s) closes the door.

Amy:

Is this 9th grade English?

Adkins:

Bingo. Take a seat, girls.

Amy and Ash find a seat and sit down. Ash looks relieved to have made it on time.

10. Int. Cafeteria. Day.

Amy and Ash get served their food and look for a place to sit.

Amy (voice over):

Lunch. It´s survival of the fittest and who you sit with now, determines how the rest of High School will be for you.

They look at bunch of jocks sitting together.

Amy (voice over):

Those guys will drink a lot of beer and have sex with cheerleaders.

They look at a group of nerds.

Amy (voice over):

Those guys will spank their monkeys, while thinking about cheerleaders. Chances are, they´ll be the one to end up with a trophy wife and lots of cash, where as ...

They look over at the jocks again, who are acting very immaturely.

Amy (voice over):

They will be the guys, who park their cars and serve them coffee, if they´re lucky. Are we girls above that? Hell no!

They look over at an artsy girl (14 year old Vicki, a slightly punky looking girl), who´s sitting by herself and drawing.

Amy (voice over):

Why is no one sitting with her? That´s right, because we´re so worried what other girls think of us, that it´s "okay" to freeze someone out for being different. I say, screw that!

Amy:

Let´s sit with that girl.

Ash looks surprised.

Ash:

We don´t know her and she looks kind of ... threatening.

Amy:

She looks like a girl, who likes to draw. Come on. Live a little and open your mind. We´re in High School now.

Ash:

I´m running away, if she threatens me.

Amy:

I´m sure, she won´t.

They walk over to Vicky´s table.

Amy (voice over):

If I´d known, I was about to meet a girl, who would change my life, I would have been more formal about it. In the situation, the only thing I could come up with was ...

Amy:

Is it okay, if we sit with you?

Vicki smiles at them.

Vicki:

Of course! Let me get these out of the way.

Ash sneaks a peek at one of them, as she sits down.

Ash:

Was that the school?

Vicki:

Yeah.

Vicki shows it to them. It´s very well drawn.

Vicki:

I made the sketch yesterday. It still needs the final shading.

Amy:

It looks great.

Vicki:

Thanks.

They smile at each other.

Amy (voice over):

I don´t know what it was, but there was an instant connection. I´m not the biggest smiler, but something about her made me want to smile back at her.

11. Ext. Street. Day.

Amy is talking to Marco.

Amy (voice over):

I had a chat with Marco after school. That was where I started becoming suspicious.

Marco:

How was your first day?

Amy:

A bit confusing and then a bit boring, but I got through it.

Marco:

I wish, we had more classes together.

Amy:

Maybe it´s a good thing. We´ll enjoy the time we have together more. Are you coming down to the Icehouse to keep me company?

Marco:

I have to study.

Amy:

You can study down there.

Marco:

It´s ehm ... a pair assignment. For French.

Amy:

Alright. Who are you paired with?

Marco:

Paige.

Amy doesn´t look too pleased.

Amy (voice over):

It annoyed the hell out of me, that his first kiss was with Paige and not with me. I´d noticed how his eyes would linger a little too long, when he looked at her, but I thought I was safe. Stupid of me, huh?

Amy:

You can´t get out of it?

Marco:

The teacher paired us up randomly. I didn´t want to make a fuss on the first day.

Amy (voice over):

Liar, liar, pants on fire!

Amy:

Alright. Just keep a safe distance from her, okay?

Marco:

I´ll try. Say hi to Pacey from me.

They kiss goodbye and go their separate ways.

12. Int. The Icehouse. Day.

Amy reports in for work and gives Pacey a hug.

Pacey:

Hey, Boo. How was your first day of High School?

Amy:

It could have been worse.

Pacey:

You´re showing the same infectious enthusiasm, I used to.

Amy (voice over):

That´s my uncle Pacey. He´s not my uncle by blood, but he´s Dougie´s younger brother. Him and Joey own The Icehouse, the restaurant I work in. Joey worked at the old restaurant that stood here, but it burned down. Pacey is the best "Fun Uncle" you can imagine and I´m almost as close with him, as I am with my dads and Joey.

Allie (a girl in her early 20´s, who´s the other waitress) passes them by.

Allie:

Do I get to choose my own schedule too, if I hug you every time I report for work?

Pacey:

Family only, sorry.

Amy:

Hi, Allie.

Allie:

Hi, Amy. It should be an easy day, unless we have a ton of walk-in´s.

Amy:

Cool.

Amy goes to change.

Pacey (voice over):

I guess, this is where my part of the story begins. I screwed up again. I know, big surprise, Pacey Witter screws up his life yet again! It wasn´t like my marriage with Joey was a storybook marriage, you all know how dramatic she can be sometimes, but I would have given my right arm to go back to the evening, it all fell apart.

13. Int. Joey´s House. Evening.

We see Joey and Pacey in the middle of a fight.

Pacey (voice over):

I´d had a bit too much to drink and I must have said something, that set her off. It wouldn´t have been the first night, I´d spent on the couch or the last. But I just had to get the last word and boy, did I choose the wrong ones!

Joey:

It´s like you´ve gave up on us, when I found out, I can´t have kids.

Pacey:

It´s not that!

Joey:

What is it then, because I´m wrecking my head to come up with an answer?

Pacey:

Maybe it´s because I´m tired of watching you still yearn for Dawson. Have you thought about that?

Joey:

I thought, we got over this years ago!

Pacey:

I did, but it´s clear that you didn´t. You settled for your second choice and it´s eating you up.

Joey:

You´re being an idiot!

Pacey:

What else is new? Maybe I am being an idiot, ot maybe I´m finally seeing the truth for what it is. You could have been anything, you wanted to be, but you traded it for small town life with me. I´m sorry, I ruined your life, Joey.

Joey starts to cry.

Joey:

You didn´t! I love you!

Pacey:

Sometimes, love just isn´t enough, Potter.

He leaves her and she breaks down crying.

12. Int. The Icehouse. Day.

We´re back the moment, we left off.

Pacey (voice over):

How could I be so stupid? Joey is the one, there´s no doubt about it and I miss not being with her. To make matters worse, I sought comfort with one of our waitresses. My first rule of work is simple: Don´t sleep with someone, you have to work with afterwards. My first rule of sleeping with someone is just as simple, but even more important: Don´t fill the girl´s head with promises, you can´t live up to, because she´ll think, you mean every word. I broke both of them.

Pacey addresses Allie.

Pacey:

She´ll find out, if you keep talking like that.

Allie:

Would it be so bad?

Pacey:

Yes, it would!

Allie:

Because she´ll tell Joey?

Pacey:

It´s complicated.

Allie:

No, it´s not. I´m just a girl to have fun with, until she takes you back. right?

Pacey looks at her with sympathy.

Pacey:

Maybe, we should cool it for a while.

Allie:

I have a better idea. I go on with my life and you go to hell!

Pacey:

I´ll understand, if you want to quit.

Allie:

I can´t. It´s not like Capeside is overflowing with job opportunities.

She storms off and Pacey looks annoyed with himself.

Pacey (voice over):

Oh how I couldn´t wait to keep working with a girl, who hated my guts!

13. Int. The Icehouse. Evening.

It´s later and Amy serves a soda to Max Harris, a 14 year old EMO boy.

Amy (voice over):

It was lucky for me that Max stopped by. He got picked on even more than I did in Junior High and we somehow ended up becoming friends in our misery. He says, he isn´t gay, but I´ve known him for two years and I still haven´t seen him even hold hands with a girl. The clothes don´t help his claim either.

Amy:

Had to get out, huh?

Max:

Yeah, they were fighting again.

Amy:

You´re always welcome here. Pacey has the world´s biggest soft spot for those, who don´t have it easy at home. I think, he can sympathize.

Max:

It´s nice to know, that I´m welcome somewhere.

Amy:

What are you studying?

Max:

French. First day and I already have an assignment for tomorrow.

Amy:

Marco does too. His is just a pair assignment.

Max:

Marco is in my French class. It wasn´t a pair assignment.

Amy looks suspicious.

14. Int. Kitchen. Evening.

Amy comes out to Pacey.

Amy:

Is it okay, if I knock off half an hour early? There´s like four people out there.

Pacey:

Sure thing. Anything special, you have to do?

Amy:

Catch a lying scumbag in the act!

Pacey looks surprised.

Pacey:

You don´t hear that one every day!

Amy:

Never the less, it´s what I´m doing.

She looks determined.

15. Int. Ash´s Room. Evening.

Amy is talking to Ash.

Amy (voice over):

First however, I had to convince Ash to let me use her dad´s drone.

Ash:

He´ll flip out, if he finds out!

Amy:

But he won´t, will he?

Ash:

Have you ever flown one before?

Amy:

No, but you have.

Ash:

Only with my dad watching. I almost crashed it one time.

Amy:

Then you know, what not to do!

Ash:

Don´t you think the cops will get mad, if they find out, we´re using it to peep through people´s windows?

Amy:

It´s only this one time. I promise, I´ll never ask you for a favor again.

Ash:

We both know, that won´t last a week.

Amy (voice over):

Ash knows me, but she also knew how much this means to me. Did I tell you guys already, that I love her? Even if I did, it can´t hurt to repeat it.

Ash seems to go along with it.

16. Ext. Driveway. Evening.

Ash is flying the drone across the street and towards Paige´s house. Amy is following it´s recordings.

Ash:

I wish, we could have done this in daylight!

Amy:

You´re doing great, Ash. Keep it up.

She flies it right up to the bedroom window and Amy makes a face.

Amy:

Wrong house! It´s an old couple doing it! EWW!

Ash:

That must be the Weston´s next door to them.

She flies it over to the next house and finds the right window.

Amy:

Disco!

Ash:

What are they doing?

Amy:

Talking, it looks like.

Ash:

Okay, so he isn´t doing anything. Can I fly it home and put it in it´s box, before anyone sees us?

We see what Amy is seeing, which is that Paige and Marco start kissing. She looks disappointed.

Amy (voice over):

My heart sunk. How could he do this to me and with her? I wanted to march over there, go up to her room and dump him right then and there. Of course, then he would find out that I was committing a felony by spying on him this way, which didn´t exactly make me look good. Heck, if her parents found out, they´d probably report us to the police.

Amy:

You can fly it home. I´ve seen everything, I need to see.

Ash sees, that she´s upset.

Ash:

I´m sorry, Amy. He´s a real jerk.

Amy:

Yeah, but what are you gonna do?

Ash:

Now we just have one more problem. I´ve never landed it before.

Amy:

You haven´t?

Ash:

I´ve seen my dad do it, but he always does it for me. Wish me luck.

Amy:

Good luck. I promise, I´ll pay for it, if you break it. Or at least half. Those things are pretty expensive!

Ash looks a little nervous, but concentrates hard, as she lands it perfectly. She smiles to herself.

Ash (voice over):

I did it and I was so proud of myself. My dad would have been too, if he´d seen it. Now I hope, I won´t get sent to jail for being a Peeper!

She picks it up and they hurry inside.

17. Int. Ash´s Room. Evening.

Ash and Amy are looking over the footage.

Amy:

I wish, I could send it to him. Like, hah! I know, you´re a cheater, dumbass!

Ash:

Please don´t. People will find out, what we did.

Amy:

I´d never do that to you. Tomorrow, I´m gonna go up to him at school and dump him. Simple as that.

Amy (voice over):

I say dumb things sometimes. Love is never simple.

18. Int. Hallway. Day.

Marco is by his locker. Amy comes up to him.

Amy (voice over):

I spent the entire morning working up my nerve and it finally became time to cut him loose. The idea of kissing him, now that I knew he was Paige´s sloppy seconds, was my motivation.

Marco:

Hey. How´s you day going?

Amy:

How´s my day? Let´s see. For one thing, I can´t get it out of my head, that my boyfriend is cheating on me with the school´s biggest Tramp!

Marco:

Amy, I ...

Amy:

Spare me your explanations, dick wad! You´re a cheater and a liar and I never want to see you again!

She storms off.

Amy (voice over):

That´s how it would have gone, if I´d seen him the day before. Thankfully, I´d had a night and a morning to cool down.

We go back to her walking up to him at his locker.

Marco:

Hey. How´s you day going?

Amy:

I have to break up with you.

Marco looks surprised.

Amy:

I still want to be friends, but let´s be honest. We we´re better off, before we became a couple.

Marco:

If that´s how you feel ...

Amy:

It is. Are you mad at me?

Marco:

No. I didn´t want to say anything, but I´ve been feeling the same way.

She sticks out her hand.

Amy:

Friends?

He shakes it and they smile at each other.

Marco:

Friends.

They smile at each other and she heads up the hallway. He breathes a sigh of relief.

Amy (voice over):

I was proud of myself, for being so adult about it. I could wait until after school, to scream out my frustrations and break the things, he´d left in my room!

She heads into a classroom.
