A.N. — The second half of October will continue the trend of not entirely human characters featuring. Today's chapter is the third such drabble of the month. He's also the start of a pair, as well as being someone who fandom tends to elevate well beyond his canon station. I resisted that temptation, barely, though I did lampshade it.

289. Ragnok

Ragnok's office was next to Griphook's, so he often overheard his coworker's mutterings about riding the Potter fortune to prosperity. Ragnok, however, had far higher aspirations: nothing short of running the entire goblin nation would satisfy him.

Like Griphook, Ragnok saw wizards as means to an end. Ragnok, though, refused to have his success tied to the disrespectful wand wavers. He'd already turned away entreaties from the Order of the Phoenix, his disposition on wizards further soured by the haggard werewolf they'd sent to gauge his interest.

Ragnok would rule alone. Earning it without other's aid would prove his power.
