A.N. — For the final member of the Marauders, I was torn on the direction to take. Make an unsympathetic character likeable, or pile on a villain? Well, I chose adult Peter as a counterpoint to kid Sirius, if that clues you in.

308. Peter Pettigrew

Peter wasn't sure which fear was worse: constantly worrying about his animagus form being discovered while living as Scabbers, or the ever-present danger of physical harm that serving the Dark Lord entailed.

It was true he'd been well-fed at the Weasleys. Perhaps too well, as his current pudge left him winded while following his Lord's commands. But he'd also been a sort of prisoner of a smothering family while living as a rat, trapped both in the Burrow and a non-human form. Voldemort only made Peter feel inhuman, especially while writhing through the after-effects of bouts of the Cruciatus curse.
