A.N. — Another husband and wife pair comes to a close with a woman who really deserved a longer look in the books. As their past wasn't really covered in canon, I'm inventing my own (and ignoring the actual historical figures). Yesterday was another case of me splitting focus, so today also follows suit.
316. Perenelle Flamel
Nicolas had saved Perenelle, in more ways than one.
A poor peasant girl, illiterate and half-starved, Perenelle had somehow caught the eye of France's most renowned alchemist. He plucked her from a simple agrarian life and thrust her, wide-eyed, into social circles she could never have imagined. Nicolas was patient and caring with Perenelle, teaching her first how to live in proper society, and then starting to share his secrets with her.
Perenelle thought herself unworthy of his gifts of love and immortality. Nicolas gently corrected her: Perenelle's humble background and continued down-to-earth nature assured him she wouldn't abuse either.
