A.N. — This man and his wife are often thought of in fanon as the parents of James Potter. But yesterday's gentleman and Euphemia are the canon choice. So where does that leave today's character? As one of the few folks on Black family tapestry that doesn't upset me with his inclusion.

334. Charlus Potter

Marrying Dorea Black was a business decision, first and foremost, for Charlus Potter.

Acquiring the Black family gold, when he already had access to the overflowing Potter vaults, was too lucrative to pass up. A Gryffindor/Slytherin pairing could always turn acrimonious, even before factoring in the infamous Black family insanity. Charlus could live with those risks as long as it served his bottom line.

They'd eventually have to conceive an heir to carry on their expanding empire. Charlus was unsure whether it was the act itself or the thought of ceding control of his fortune that he dreaded more.
