A.N. — Hagrid, whose birthday is tomorrow, returns from his mission to the giants around the middle of the school year. This Death Eater's the main reason he failed. Since I paired him with Hagrid and not Buckbeak, the topic for the drabble shifted from my original plan.

339. Walden Macnair

Macnair and the giants spoke the same language: violence. Hagrid and Olympe had no chance of currying their favor when the giants had someone so well-versed in their preferred form of communication. Walden was all too happy to open a dialogue.

It was simple for Macnair to convince the giants to overthrow their current regime. The copious bloodshed did cull the number of giants that Voldemort would have at his disposal, but Walden viewed those losses as not only acceptable, but necessary. The weak had no place in the Dark Lord's service. He'd return, triumphant, with a battle-hardened fighting force.
