Attacking the Lovegoods felt like a waste of resources to Selwyn. But it wasn't his call to make, so he begrudgingly went to Ottery St. Catchpole.
Xeno was a fellow pureblood, but that was secondary to Selwyn. The man had soiled his good name by publishing drivel in the Quibbler. He'd rather be out terrorizing muggles and mudbloods than ever caught reading that rag, but Selwyn had a job to do and reputation to maintain. He roughed up Lovegood, threatened his daughter's wellbeing, then arrested him. With Voldemort effectively in charge, it was all proper procedure. That, Selwyn approved of.
