Author's Note
Once upon a time there was supposed to be a novel called Blood Oath set between the Legacy of the Force and Fate of the Jedi series that bridges the two series and explained the fate of Zekk, who went MIA at the end of the former. However, Elaine Cunningham's novel ended up being cancelled, and when Zekk reappeared in the latter it was with minimal explanation. That was a hole in the Legends EU I thought about for a little bit, wrote a book to fill it, sat on it for a while, then came back to it, fixed it up a little, and present it now.
In writing Promises I took the publisher's summary for Blood Oath as a starting point. I'm sure my end result is plenty different from the book Cunningham was going to write, though I did curb a few plot elements from her previous SW novel Dark Journey. Instead of Zekk being the sole main character, he ends up splitting that role with Tahiri and Tenel Ka. The end result is a LotF coda, more character piece than anything, a novel about three different people trying to move on from three different Solo siblings. And, compared to my Legacy's Edge/End doorstoppers, it's nice and short, which is cause enough for cheer.
