Chapter 2
"!" Cyber said as she finished re-attaching Omega's chest plate. It hadn't been easy to get it back in shape, and there were still some pretty noticeable teeth marks, but it would hold for now. Raccoon, for his part, was very apologetic, and had been a big help in fixing Omega back up...Even if that mainly meant holding some tools in his mouth while Cyber worked her magic. Jack, Rouge, and Shadow, in the meantime, had been comparing notes. "And you're sure these...'ECS Units' are inside of this facility?" Rouge asked. Jack nodded. "We've encountered a few experimental Badniks out here. Where they are, there tend to be ECS Units." Shadow nodded in silence. ECS Units...Resistance soldiers who had died during the war, only to be resurrected through Eggman's infernal means. Abandoned experiments, and Cyber was apparently one of them, and seemed to be happy enough...But Shadow wondered yet again if he and the other heroes of this world had let the Doctor get away with too much. What other abominations could be lurking in that base?
Omega, Cyber, Raccoon and the Wisps walked(and flew)over to join the others. "Well, it'd probably be best to cross-reference those Badnik sightings with the information the Intelligence Division gave us." Rouge said. As if in response, Cyber knocked on the cover to one of Omega's connection ports, causing it to open. After that, she pulled a long data cable out from under her hat before plugging it into Omega. "Cross-referencing data..." Omega said, before his eyes projected a map over the area in front of the group. Cyber's mechanical eyes soon projected the locations of the Badnik attacks, before a central point was found. "The central hub of the river." Rouge said, with a groan. "And me without my swimsuit."
The group later reached the location of the central hub right as the last rays of the evening faded into the night. Raccoon stuck his hand in the river for a second. "Deep." He said, in a voice almost like a growl. "Hmm...It might be hard to find an entrance down there." Shadow mused. "Cyber and I shall go." Omega said, stepping forward. "Um, excuse me?" Jack said, stepping defensively in front of Cyber. "She and I are the only ones here who do not need oxygen to communicate, making us the perfect candidates for this mission." Cyber put her hand on Jack's shoulder to indicate that it was okay, before handing her visor, hat, and Wispon over to Jack. The removal of her hat revealed a large data port underneath that had clearly been used for some unspeakable purposes. Cyber seemed embarrassed as she saw Shadow noticing it. Switching her "beak" to rebreather mode, Cyber nodded to Omega before the two dove into the river. Jack placed his face mask and goggles on his belt before retrieving some small rebreathers from a pouch. Rouge did the same for her and Shadow. "Hey, you aren't gonna have any problems with this part, are you?" Jack said to Shadow. "No...Why would I?"
"Well, I've heard that Sonic has this thing with water, and...Well, you're fast like him..." Jack stammered out, before Shadow interrupted him. "Well, for one thing, I'm not Sonic. You'd do good to remember that. And for another, the water thing is actually a myth. Sonic encounters water all of the time, never has any problems with it. Otherwise, Eggman would build a LOT more underwater facilities just to keep him out."
"!" Came Cyber's voice triumphantly over the radio. Shadow and Rouge looked to Jack for translation. "Sorry, we've...had this discussion before." Jack tuned into the radio more properly. "Yes, honey, you were right, I was wrong. You and Omega find anything down there?"
"An entrance? Yes. Robots to destroy? Sadly, no." Omega responded, with a hint of disappointment in his voice. "Sending directions now."
