Chapter 1
Heatherkit woke up and ran out of the nursery, seeing Redpaw licking his paw she walked past the apprentice and she ran to Hawkkit "Hi Hawkkit!" Heatherkit squeaked, running towards the gray kit and he turned to her "Hi Heatherkit" Hawkkit said, licking his paw and swiping it over his ear "How's it going?" Heatherkit asked "I'm doing ok, Chiveclaw's been showing me a few herbs" Hawkkit said and she smiled, looking at her friend "Ok!" Heatherkit said, running off where she saw Palekit playing with Woollykit "Hi Woollykit! Hi Palekit!" Heatherkit squeaked "Hi Heatherkit!" Palekit said, nuzzling Heatherkit's side "You two having fun?" Heatherkit asked "Yeah! We were playing mole and tunneller" Palekit said and Heatherkit saw Meadowkit running towards them "But whose the mole if you're both going to be tunnellers?" Meadowkit scoffed "And you may as well be a hare running through the moors" Woollykit hissed and Meadowkit gave a small hiss and ran off with Brackenkit "You going to join us Heatherkit? We're playing warrior!" Brackenkit asked and Heatherkit nodded, "Goodbye guys, have fun" Heatherkit said, walking off with Brackenkit and Meadowkit "Let's race!" Meadowkit squeaked, and she dashed off and Brackenkit and Heatherkit followed suit dashing across the camp to the hunting stones and Heatherkit jumped on top of the rocks "I won!" Heatherkit squeaked and Meadowkit jumped on the stones "I'm second!" Meadowkit squeaked and Brackenkit stumbled to the rocks "You two are fast!" Brackenkit said and Heatherkit felt her heart lifting in her heart "Well at sunhigh I am going to be an apprentice and so will Brackenkit but you're three moons old and you still need to wait!" Heatherkit teased and Meadowkit scoffed "Well i'll still be a good moor-runner when i'm old enough" Meadowkit squeaked and Brackenkit nodded "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather beneath the wind rock for a clan meeting" called Swiftstar and Heatherkit walked to the meeting with Meadowkit "This must be our ceremony!" Heatherkit squeaked "And Hawkkits" Meadowkit said, seeing Hawkkit walking into the meeting "It is time for new apprentices to be made, Heatherkit, Meadowkit, Hawkkit step forward" Swiftstar said and the three kits dashed up enthusiastically "Hawkkit, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Hawkpaw. Your mentor will be Chiveclaw. I hope Chiveclaw will pass down all he knows on to you" Swiftstar said and Hawkpaw ran to Chiveclaw and touched noses with him "Heatherkit, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Heatherpaw. Your mentor will be Hareflight. I hope Hareflight will pass down all he knows on to you" Swiftstar said and Heatherpaw ran up to Hareflight and touched noses with him "Brackenkit, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Brackenpaw. Your mentor will be Flailfoot. I hope Flailfoot will pass down all he knows on to you" Swiftstar said and Brackenpaw gasped "But I must be a moor-runner! Swiftstar you must be mouse brained!" Brackenpaw hissed, and Chiveclaw stepped forward "I got a prophecy of wind blowing bracken into a tunnel and I believe it is a sign that you must be a tunneller Brackenpaw" Chiveclaw said and Brackenpaw grumbled, not wanting to argue with a medicine cat she touched noses with Flailfoot resentfully "That is all, meeting dismissed" Swiftstar said and Heatherpaw walked off "Ha! Who's the mole now?" Woollykit teased, running towards Brackenpaw "Shut your muzzle" Brackenpaw hissed, walking off angrily with Flailfoot "I will show you around the territory, Chiveclaw do you want to come with us? It would be good for Hawkpaw to see the territory as well" Hareflight asked and Chiveclaw nodded "Come, Hawkpaw it'd do you good to learn the territory" Chiveclaw said and Hawkpaw walked with the other cats as the walked onto the moor "It's so pretty!" Heatherpaw squeaked "That's what all new apprentices think" Hareflight purred, walking forward and Heatherpaw stood by her mentor as they walked on the moor "This is outlook rock, it's a good place to try to find rabbits" Hareflight said, pointing her head to the large rock "Wow! It's so tall!" Heatherpaw squeaked "Under the rock you can usually find a beech bush, it's an easy place to get beech nuts" Chiveclaw said and Hawkpaw nodded, as the walked across the moor Heatherpaw saw Brackenpaw grumbling to Flailfoot in the tunnels "Come on Brackenpaw, just dig, it's not hard!" Flailfoot hissed "It'll get my claws dirty!" Brackenpaw whined "You'd better get used to that then!" Flailfoot hissed and Heatherpaw walked off with Hareflight, Chiveclaw, and Hawkpaw where Heatherpaw saw a long bridge "This is the bridge, it's our main border between us and Riverclan" Hareflight said, and Heatherpaw walked on the bridge and she saw a gray Riverclan cat "Oh, Hello!" The cat said "Who are you?" Heatherpaw hissed "I'm Hailpaw!" Hailpaw said and Heatherpaw stepped back "I'm Heatherpaw" Heatherpaw grumbled "Are you a new apprentice?" Hailpaw asked "Yes" Heatherpaw said "Nice! I've been an apprentice for almost a moon" Hailpaw purred and Heatherpaw turned away, lashing her tail "Bye!" Hailpaw said and Heatherpaw scoffed and rolled her eyes "He seemed nice" Chiveclaw said and Heatherpaw walked up to a large gorge "What is this?" Heatherpaw asked "This is the gorge, maybe someday you can jump the whole length of the gorge, I can" Hareflight said, leaping up he seemed to fly above the gorge as he delicately landed across the gorge and he walked back across the bridge "So cool! Will I be able to do that someday?" Heatherpaw asked "Yeah, but not now" Hareflight said, walking off on the moor and across the soft grass Heatherpaw followed, looking up at the sky she smiled at the clouds drifting across the sky "I think we can head back now, maybe you can talk to some other apprentices" Hareflight said and they all walked back to the camp and Heatherpaw sat down "You excited to learn real things?" Heatherpaw asked "Of course! It was just a slow first day" Hawkpaw said, licking his chest fur and soon after they saw Brackenpaw walking in, her ears pricked and she ran over to Hawkpaw and Heatherpaw "Oh there you are! How was your first day?" Brackenpaw asked "We got to see the territory!" Heatherpaw squeaked "I was stuck digging around in some dirt, I hate tunneling!" Brackenpaw hissed "I'm sure it'll get better" a new voice said, and Redpaw sat by Brackenpaw "I didn't like running so much when I was first apprenticed but i'm getting used to it" Redpaw said and Brackenpaw smiled, licking some dirt off her fur "Well how is it being a moor runner?" Brackenpaw asked "We run and catch hares, but i'm sure you'll be digging in the tunnels and getting rabbits that wander down there" Redpaw said, and Brackenpaw purred and leaned on him "I'd prefer to be a moor-runner but I supposed I can handle it for now" Brackenpaw purred "It is time for me to announce who is going to the gathering" Swiftstar said and the apprentices dashed to the meeting "Flamepelt, Chiveclaw, Whiteberry, Flailfoot, Lilywhisker, Hareflight, Aspenfall, Cloudrunner, Dawnstripe, Larkpaw, Redpaw, Brackenpaw, Hawkpaw, and Heatherpaw will go" Swiftstar said and Heatherpaw smiled "Our first gathering!" Heatherpaw squeaked "We will go once night arrives" Swiftstar said, leaping down from the rock and Heatherpaw walked off with Brackenpaw and Redpaw "So how was your first day out Heatherpaw?" Redpaw asked "It was good! I got to see the territory and it was super fun!" Heatherpaw squeaked and Redpaw smiled "It sounds fun, I remember on my first day out it was super fascinating." Redpaw said and Brackenpaw smiled up at him "Well you're going to be a great moor-runner" Brackenpaw purred, leaning on Redpaws shoulder "You'll be a good tunneler" Redpaw said, licking his paw "Well the gathering is soon, the sun is setting" Heatherpaw said, and Meadowkit dashed up to them "How is it being an apprentice?" Meadowkit asked "Oh, it's going good" Heatherpaw purred and Meadowkit smiled "You'll be a good apprentice" Redpaw said "I think it's time to go now" Brackenpaw said, looking out of the entrance and Heatherpaw looked and dashed to the crowd of cats going to the gathering with Redpaw and Brackenpaw dashing off with her, at the gathering she saw Swiftstar sitting on the rock, and then she saw Volestar sit on the rock by Swiftstar she sat down and she saw the gray tom she had seen earlier walk up to her "Oh, hi! I see you're here!" Hailpaw purred, sitting down by Heatherpaw "Hello Hailpaw" Heatherpaw grumbled "You seem upset" Hailpaw said "Well I have no interest in talking to a Riverclan cat" Heatherpaw said "It'd do you good to make some friends outside of Windclan, my mentor said a friend outside of Riverclan would be good" Hailpaw purred and Heatherpaw rolled her eyes "Well how was the rest of your time walking around the territory?" Hailpaw asked "It was good" Heatherpaw said and Hailpaw leaned on Heatherpaw's shoulder "Riverclan's doing well" Hailpaw said "Alright" Heatherpaw said "I saw your friend leaving the tunnels, she seemed very upset, why?" Hailpaw asked "Well she wanted to be a moor-runner but she was made into a tunneler" Heatherpaw said "How is that bad?" Hailpaw asked "Let's just say moor-runners and tunnelers have quite a division in Windclan" Heatherpaw said "Why? Shouldn't clanmates be friends and not divided?" Hailpaw asked "I'm not sure, it's just how it works" Heatherpaw said He may be from another clan, but he is right. Heatherpaw thought, seeing Shadowclan come with Houndstar sitting on the rock and soon after Thunderclan with Oakstar "I think it is time for the gathering to begin" Houndstar said and Oakstar nodded "I will go first" Volestar said, stepping forward "Riverclan has gotten a new apprentice, Hailpaw." Volestar said "Hailpaw! Hailpaw! Hailpaw!" the cats called and Hailpaw's face glowed with pride "Also we have a new warrior, Rippleclaw" Volestar said "Rippleclaw! Rippleclaw! Rippleclaw!" the cats called "That is all" Volestar said, stepping back and Swiftstar stepped forward "Windclan has three new apprentices, Hawkpaw, Heatherpaw, and Brackenpaw" Swiftstar said "Hawkpaw! Brackenpaw! Heatherpaw!" the cats called and Heatherpaw smiled proudly "And that is all" Swiftstar, and Oakstar stepped forward "We have two new warriors, Weedwhisker and Mumblefoot" Oakstar said "Weedwhisker! Mumblefoot! Weedwhisker! Mumblefoot! Weedwhisker! Mumblefoot!" the cats called What kind of names are those? Heatherpaw thought, looking up at the large brown tom as he stepped back "I believe this gathering is over, until next full moon may Starclan light your path" Volestar said and Heatherpaw stood up "Well, goodbye Heatherpaw" Hailpaw said, nuzzling her cheek and walking off with the Riverclan cats and Heatherpaw walked back with the other cats to the camp and she laid down in a large nest in the apprentice's den "I see you were talking with that Riverclan apprentice" Brackenpaw said "Yeah, well he mostly talked to me" Heatherpaw said, licking her chest fur "Well I think it's time to go to sleep, good night Heatherpaw" Brackenpaw said and Heatherpaw went to sleep.
