Peter had been more quiet than usual, Loki and Wanda shared an unspoken alliance but didn't want to make him feel uncomfortable, he was just doing what felt right, and they both respected that.
Loki had decided to shut himself inside one of the rooms, Wanda left him alone for a few hours knowing he was probably going to sleep.
She looked inside the cabinets for food and didn't find much, Loki had gotten some provisions but she wanted actual food, and she was beginning to feel claustrophobic as well.
Wanda locked herself in the bathroom and stared at her reflection, she closed her eyes and tried to change her appearance, not something she had tried before, but ever since her whole revelation thanks to Loki, she had felt more comfortable with magic, like she had a say in it now. She was quite surprised that when she opened her eyes her hair was now blonde, she nodded in a reassuring way to her reflection before leaving the bathroom.
Peter who was looking down at his notebook suddenly looked up quite confused.
"I'll go insane if I can't have some fresh air, I'll try to find something to eat" she began and sighed "Loki has the stone, don't worry. If anything happens wake him up, he'll be able to reach me"
Peter nodded and pointed at her "The hair, it looks good"
Wanda smiled and left the house, there was a light breeze and a sweet scent of pine-ish trees.
She looked around and saw another unit house not so far from them with a window open, the echoes of voices chatting came from it, with a quick scan she could tell it was a family conversing about food, either way it was best not to be seen.
It was hard to imagine a family sitting down chatting about wether the soup was hot enough or not, while the fate of the universe laid upon the shoulders of very few, her amongst them.E ither way she appreciated the silence and the freedom of being outside, she walked up the irregular path until she noticed a tree line not far from her and felt drawn to it. Each step faster and faster until she arrived to the tree line and crossed the branches that guarded the place, one slashed her upper cheekbone but she didn't stop.
A rather familiar lake shined before her eyes, it seemed a bit smaller than she remembered, but how come did she know about it? She had never been here and somehow she could see and hear Pietro calling her from the water.
She walked to the shore and looked at her reflection, there were tears in her eyes. She took her shoes off and dipped her feet in the water, she hugged her legs and buried her face on her knees.
The sound of water waves caught her attention, she quickly wiped her tears and looked up.
Loki stood awkwardly in the lake, the water up to his bare torso and his long hair dripping wet.
"How long have you been there?" She asked him unimpressed
"Long enough" he told her looking away "I'll give you some privacy"
"No" she told him before he could begin his way out of the lake "this was your dream, I am the one interrupting it"
"I was the one who shared it" he added "what do you think? Did I do it justice?"
"Not really" she looked around and couldn't help but to smile "it is beautiful, but it shined brighter in your dream"
He smiled triumphantly "I'm flattered. I suppose I remember it fondly"
"Thank you, it was nice seeing Pietro, and my mother" she cleared her throat and added "Thor is going to be alright"
Loki nodded and took a deep breath "I appreciate the sentiment, your brother and you seemed to be close, but I can't say that about me and Thor, I literally tried to kill him several times"
"God, I know you're not joking" she said in disaprovement but still laughed
He joined "No one had ever laughed at that before"
She tilted her head and took a moment to breathe in "Why didn't you dive in?"
"I beg your pardon?"
"In the dream" she explained "you walked to the shore and preferred the view rather than diving in immediately, something that a kid would have preferred to do"
He took in her words for a few seconds, he knew she was studying him.
"I'm not sure, I suppose I wanted to make sure I memorized every detail of the place"
"Every detail except the actual water" she joked "I can't remember the actual feeling of swimming in comparison to running down the meadows or staring at the splendor"
"Well I was always the type to observe rather than to act"
"I was too, between my brother and I" she told him and pointed at him "but now I see you decided to try the water"
"Well I had to make sure to take note of the temperature and water sensation so the recreation of my memories could feel more real to you" he answered
"So considerate"
He rolled his eyes and sighed "I suppose I did try to do what was not expected of me"
"How is it?"
"Freeing and uncomfortable at the same time"
She laughed "and the water?"
"As good as I remember"
"Not very good then?"
This time he really laughed.
"I'm sorry" she apologized "I've been stressed and apparently taking it out on you"
"Well revenge is always sweet" Loki told her before splashing her with what felt like half the lake.
"Hey!" She yelled and immediately stood up
"How is the water?" He asked her smirking
She walked to him and started splashing him liters of water with her magic, he laughed and evaded it as much as he could, without caring too much Wanda had entered the lake, the water up to her waist and Loki only a few inches in front of her.
In a swift move she finally managed to splash him with a big wave, he reached for the surface still laughing and fixed his hair.
"Are you happy now?" She questioned
"Actually I am, I managed to get you inside the lake" he answered "the water fight was just a diversion, so tell me, how is it?"
She rolled her eyes but let herself feel the water, they weren't deep inside, so she still could feel the ground beneath her, the sun shined on them and suddenly everything seemed so far away.
"You should swim further down" he told her
"I don't know how"
"You don't?"
"I grew up in a poor country with constant war, there was not a lot of time to swim" she explained
"Ah yes, my apologies" he told her "we should go back to the shore then"
Wanda nodded and began walking back until her left leg reached a deeper part, she felt herself drowning, but before she could even react Loki pulled her back, she grabbed onto his bare torso. Only then she really noticed he was only wearing underwear.
"Are you alright?" He asked
She nodded and adverted her eyes from him "Enough water for today"
The two of them walked back and she really hoped he hadn't noticed the split second he had made her nervous.
Vision.
Wanda almost ran for the shore.
