Harry Potter strode after the female goblin, quashing any fear he might have. The door closed, on its own, behind him.
Not one of the three humans on the other side was surprised. Draco, in his guise as Ron, turned to Hermione, "Did you know he was going to do that?"
Hermione shook her head mutely, "I didn't even know he was reading more books! He must have done it after curfew."
Severus Snape snorted, saying acerbically, "Perhaps the first time the idiot child has done something productive, while breaking curfew."
Draco Malfoy looked, with well hidden longing, at that door, "He made his own plan. Light above forfend whatever madness has struck him."
Snape turned towards Hermione, slightly, asking, "Has Potter ever cooked for you before?"
Hermione stood straight, her Gryffindor roots shining through, "No. He's always seemed so thankful for Hogwarts' cooking."
Snape nodded, slowly, "You haven't noted any hidden brilliance in his Potions work, outside of class?"
Hermione snorted, "What potions work, outside of class?"
Draco Malfoy knew where this was going. Snape had a keen look in his eye, and Draco knew that the Potions Master cared enough to foster true talent. And, from Snape's questions, he had concluded, from a Cooking Demonstration, that Potter had ... hidden talents.
Draco knew himself well enough to know that had this come up last year, he'd have been insanely jealous. He'd had to work, and work hard, to win Snape's regard.
Not Potter, Draco saw. With ruthless discipline, he forced himself not to care. No, he turned it a different way, as there was always a different way. Potter - Harry Potter - had just won the lottery - a reverse jackpot. Snape's attention would not be a boon to the boy, Draco knew that for certain. For whatever reason, Harry Potter had been hiding his talent.
Snape would ensure that ended now. He'd have no patience for more lying. Draco was almost looking forward to hearing what convoluted explanation Potter had for not performing to his abilities. Maybe he'd be nice and let Hermione worm the secret out of Potter. She liked discovering secrets like a niffler liked finding gold. Besides, Harry Potter was far more likely to respond to a friend's badgering...
[a/n: Leave a review? Snape's seething, in case it's not apparent. Draco's aware of that, but Snape's not projecting it, so I'm writing what Snape is portraying, for the benefit of the Gryffindor in the room.]
