Chapter 1
In the closing days of the clone wars, the war continued to rage. The Jedi were spread thin.
"Meditate young one." The voice of the male Jedi master rang out in the darkroom. The master was standing at a door, keeping the light from coming in, except for a candle. "Someday soon, we may be forced to live like this, in darkness. But even in the darkness, there is always light."
"Yes, master." A female voice rang out. As the female padawan meditated, a clone came up to her master.
"General, we have an issue." The clone said. The clones had purple paint on their armor. The light rushed into the room, and the Jedi got up.
"Master?" The female padawan said. Her green eyes pierced through the darkness. Her tan skin nearly matched the town of some of the clones.
"I guess we'll have to continue this practice later. Come, Rosa." The master said. Rosa stood up, her brown hair falling along her shoulders. She sighed. Her focus was gone. She was using the force to hold her hair together. Her master just smiled at seeing the mess. The Zabrak Jedi master turned to his clone commander.
"Master Maku, what's going on?" Rosa asked.
"Nothing important. Come along Rosa." Rosa followed her master to the cockpit of the ship. It was a small ship since this team was created for infiltration. Twelve clones, two Jedi, and two droids. The ship was a simple freighter, with speed and stealth being most important.
"What seems to be the problem?" Master Maku asked.
"During that last jump, we must have been tapped by something. We're lightyears away from any republic systems." The captain said.
"What do you mean?" Maku asked.
"We've arrived at this system. It's on no charts, but it's habitable." The officer clone showed the reports to Master Maku. Rosa looked out and saw a shattered moon sitting in front of them.
"Master… something happened here." Rosa said.
"We've been followed!" A clone yelled out behind everyone. A small separatist ship came out of lightspeed above them. Neither ship would have been visible from the ground of the planet thankfully.
"Get to battle stations!" Maku yelled. The clones went to the gunner turrets, four in total. The separatist ship was fired on. The hits only landed on the shield, and soon they moved. A round of plasma fire hit a fragment of the shattered moon a moment after they left the spot.
"Get the missiles ready to fire!" Maku said.
"Make sure they hit the critical areas! We don't have many." Rosa said.
"We'll try commander." The clone said.
The CIS ship looked out for the freighter but couldn't find it. It was too fast.
"That ship won't escape our grasp again." Said the commander droid on the ship.
"Sir, our shields are down by half. We keep getting hit by those rocks." One of the droids reported.
"Can't you avoid them?" The commander said.
"We're too big."
"We're going to be melted down if we don't take down that ship." The droid said.
Maku looked out at the battle and smiled. They might still be able to pull through this. The first missile was fired and slammed into the shield. Maku brought his fist up.
"Master!" Rosa said with a smile
"We can pull through this still." Maku said.
The second missile fired and hit the shield. It was obvious to everyone that it was soon going to break. A large piece of the moon slammed into the ship's hull and left a gash across it. The shield was down.
"Now commander! Fire those missiles!" Maku said.
"Yes sir." The missiles were fired, slamming into the ship, breaking parts of the haul. The freighter was down to its last missile, and it spun around, flying directly towards the bridge. They fired the missile, and it slammed, exploding the bridge of the ship. As they flew through the fire, they failed to notice a chunk of rock before it was too late, and it slammed into the freighter. Behind them, the ship started to explode. It would look like a shooting star.
"Sir, we've lost the engines and life support. We're going to crash on the planet." The clone pilot said. "Get everyone to their seats."
"You heard the pilot men, get to your seats!" Maku said. He grabbed Rosa and brought her over to her seat. He strapped her in first and went to his seat. The six clones were strapped in as they plummeted towards the unknown planet.
"Master…" Rosa said.
"It's going to be alright Rosa. Remember, there is no death, there is the force."
The ship started to heat up as they entered the atmosphere. Rosa closed her eyes and tried to center herself. She was proud of the clones. They were all brave, none of them showed any fear as they were plummeting.
"May the force be with you." The pilot said. Then everything went dark.
The ship had crashed. It left a mark on the ground as it did. Rosa felt her head throbbing. She opened her eyes and saw a dark red light. She coughed but didn't see blood, so her lungs were good. She checked on herself using the force to see if anything was broken.
Nothing life-threatening, but she was going to feel sore for a while. She wouldn't be surprised if her body wasn't completely covered in bruises. She opened her eyes and saw the ship was ripped in half. The back half of the ship was nowhere to be seen. She looked around and saw her master, his arm was crushed. She went for her lightsaber and the green light showed over everything else.
"Rosa?" Maku asked, barely holding on.
"Master, I'm going to have to cut off your arm if you're going to live." Rosa said. Maku nodded his head. He turned his head from Rosa, as her hands started shaking.
"I'm sorry." Rosa said. She brought down the lightsaber and freed Maku from the chunk of metal. She grabbed him and looked around. All but one clone was dead. The droids were nowhere to be found. Maku used the force to free the clone, and he fell to the ground. Rosa grabbed him too and they moved to the open hole in the ship. They were on ground level, but she found the other half of the ship. A thousand yards back, the ship hit the ground at such a speed and in the perfect area that the front half snapped off the back half. The only reason this clone survived was luck. When half of the ship landed, it must have scraped the forest floor the entire way. Rosa's foot hit something, and she looked down at half a clone, crushed down the middle. Her eyes opened wide.
"By the force." Rosa felt sick.
When they left the ship, the clone was using his blaster as a walking stick. Maku breathed heavily and was in immense pain. Rosa wondered how she wasn't hurt worse.
She looked in the sky and wondered how she was going to get back to the republic, to her home.
"Something's not right," Maku said. Rosa felt it a moment later. She took out her lightsaber and looked around.
"Sir?" The clone asked.
"I sense it too master, that darkness." Rosa said. Her master took out his green lightsaber and looked around.
The sound of wolves surrounded them. The clone grabbed his blaster and looked around. Then the first one pounced. The clone shot at it between the eyes and then fell to the ground.
"Damnit," He said. "I can't stand and shoot."
The wolves started coming out all at once. The clone on the ground was killing them, but more came. Maku used shards from the ship to embed in the wolves. Any of them that were in front got caught and died. Rosa grabbed a broken tree and tossed it at a group of rushing wolves, crushing them.
"Master! We can't stay here!" Rosa said.
"I know." He sliced his lightsaber downward, killing a wolf.
Soon, the wolves retreated. Everyone breathed heavily.
"Did…?" Rosa started, when the largest of the wolves came forward. The clone shot at it, but it roared back in defiance. It rushed forward and took the force pushes. It got to the clone first and brought its claw through his chest. Rosa gritted her teeth and used the force to jump on its arm. She brought her lightsaber down into its arm and ran up it. It let out a cry the entire way up. When she was to its head, she spun her hands and brought her lightsaber down to its head. It fell to the ground with a thump, and she jumped off it. She breathed in heavily when they saw lights overhead.
"Master?" Rosa asked.
"I don't sense hostility." Maku said. Rosa went over to the clone and held his head. She took off the helmet and saw his eyes.
"It's okay. You were great." The clone's face was covered in his own blood.
"The nightmares… are over." He said as he died.
She closed his eyes and held onto his helmet.
"Execute order 66." She heard from within.
"Order 66?" Rosa asked.
"I don't know." Maku said. He held onto his gut and fell to one knee. Rosa rushed over to check his wounds. She used the force to see what was wrong, and it was a shock he was still alive. He took a lot more damage when the ship crashed. Anyone who wasn't trained in the force would have died.
The light covered them, and soon a ship landed.
"What happened here?" Rosa heard. She held onto Maku as he closed his eyes. His body had forced itself to go into a coma. He told her about this. A force technique that mimicked death.
A man came out and put a hand on her shoulder.
"Come now, we have to leave the forest." The man in the black jacket and green sweater told her.
"He's not dead." Rosa said.
"But he will be if we don't leave. Don't worry, we'll help him." Ozpin said. The medics on the ship brought out a stretcher and put Maku on it. They brought him to the ship, and another roar rang out.
"We need to go now!" The man said. Rosa shook her head and got on the ship. She went to her master's side.
"Is this a Faunas?" One of the medics said. Before Rosa could ask what a faunas was, the man gave her a look and she felt his emotions. She shouldn't talk right now.
"Yes, it looks like he's a Faunas. Is that a problem?" The man asked.
"No, it isn't Professor Ozpin." The head medic said. One of the medics turned to Rosa.
"Young lady, we need to check you as well." The medic said.
"I've no life-threatening injuries," Rosa said.
"We'll be the judge of that."
Ozpin walked into the cockpit to give Rosa privacy. She grimaced as they checked her injuries. All over her arms and chest were bruises.
"You were right, nothing life-threatening, but this should still be almost debilitating. How are you not screaming?" The medic asked.
"I was spared from most of the damage." Rosa said.
"Consider it a miracle that either of you are alive. The way that ship of yours went down there shouldn't be anything left of you. Then you went and fought Grimm." The medic finished her checkup. "What happened to his arm? It was cauterized recently?"
"I had to cut it off. It was pinned down by what I think was a computer?" Rosa said.
"Cut it off? With what? And how are you so calm about this?"
"I'm a Jedi." She said.
"Jedi? Any of you knows what that means?" The medic asked.
"No."
So, this world had to be in at least the unknown region to not know what the Jedi are. Even the most backwater Outer rim world knew what the Jedi order was, Rosa thought to herself.
"What's your name?" The Medic asked.
"Rosa Reidan." Rosa said.
"And how old are you?"
"I'm seventeen." She said. What was this all about? Ozpin stepped back in and looked at Rosa.
"Well then, why don't I help you?" Ozpin said.
"Sir, is this the time?" The Medic said.
"She needs somewhere to stay while her guardian heals. What better place then at Beacon?" Ozpin said. The blonde medic sighed.
"Where is she going to stay?" She asked.
"We'll find a place for her." Ozpin said. "Come, Glynda, she needs our help."
Ozpin and Glynda looked at the young woman. She wondered what they were thinking.
After they returned to Beacon, Ozpin and Glynda took the two injured Jedi to a hospital-like room in the building. A secret room it seemed like. But why would it be a secret? Rosa looked around the room and saw a bacta tank.
"That's… too advanced," Rosa said.
"Hence why we have it in a secret location. You don't mind if I say this, but you don't need it." Ozpin said.
"Why hide it?"
"Because we don't have nearly enough bacta or Kolto, or any of the miracle drugs. So, when we use it, we must make sure it's used for a good purpose." Ozpin said.
"But if you have this then… does that mean you know what a Jedi is after all?" Rosa asked.
"Of course, we do, but they haven't been here since that starlight beacon. All their influence on Remnant was destroyed during the great war." Ozpin said.
"Remnant? Great War?" Rosa asked
"You'll find out more about it in class." Ozpin said
"Class?" She asked.
"This is a school. You're the perfect age to join. Plus, it'll keep you close to your master." Ozpin said. She looked at her master and then back at the man.
"Ozpin…" Glynda said. He smiled at her.
"It's her choice." Ozpin said. Glynda sighed.
"What's this school like?" Rosa asked.
"It's a hunter's school. It took some ideals of the Jedi and some ideals from our warriors, and some more ideals from our philosophers and made it into one package. A hunter, or in your case, huntress. Warriors of the light, who are allowed to feel and love. Philosophers can help people more than by giving them books. Our mission is to protect the world and all the people within it." Ozpin said.
"And you want me to join your school?" She asked hesitantly.
"Yes. You're powerful because you have the force, but you can be more. You'd be on the side of not only the greater good but common day good as well." Ozpin said.
"But… my clothes? They don't exactly fit into what you two wear." Rosa said.
"We give out school clothing, but we'll give you a small amount of money to go get you supplies, including clothes." Ozpin said.
"Will I be able to use my lightsaber?"
"Its importance is completely lost on basically all people of Remnant. And with that handy little feature that can lower the power, your lightsaber won't be able to melt through other weapons. The metals of Remnant you will find have a slight resistance to lightsabers. Not enough to survive multiple hits at once, but enough that you won't be cutting through weapons in one slash." Ozpin said. "Unless they're super cheap."
"Or she hits strong enough." Glynda said.
"Do I get somewhere to stay?" Rosa asked.
"Of course. We have a wonderful dormitory here at Beacon. Only the best for the best." Ozpin said.
"When do classes start?" Rosa asked.
"In about a month or so. So, you have enough time to study up, and get your supplies." Ozpin said. Rosa took a moment, and she felt a nudge through the force.
"Alright. I'll join your school." Rosa bowed to Ozpin. He smiled. Rosa turned back to the tank, where her master was put in without her noticing.
Two weeks into her stay at her new home, Rosa was walking down the streets of Vale, checking her list of supplies she was going to need. She got all the stationary she would need. She got clothes she thought looked good on her. She was helped with that by a blonde woman about her age. She got her number on her scroll. Her name was Yang Xiao Long. She was a blast to hang out with, and she promised to meet her again when the beginning of term started. Though it took some time to get her to look at modest clothing. Rosa nearly fainted with the first pair of clothing Yang brought her. It looked more like underwear than actual clothing.
Now she needed dust for some studies, and she would be done for the day. She found a dust shop call "From Dust Till Dawn". It was probably the only one open at this hour. She smiled as she entered it. An elderly man was keeping the shop, and she bowed at him.
"Thank you for still being open." Rosa said. The shopkeeper smiled and waved his hand. She went to the deeper sections of the store and studied the contents. She looked at the premade packets of dust, dust bullets, weapon magazines, and her personal purchase. A martial art magazine. She loved reading them. She was even more impressed by the woman her age on the front of the magazine. Pyrrha Nikos. The redhead looked beautiful and confident.
She looked over and saw a girl who looked a little younger than her looking at one of the weapon magazines with headphones over her ears. Rosa wondered if her hearing was good because she was hearing her music even though she was nowhere near her.
She heard the door ring and she turned to see the new arrivals. She felt sketched out by them and looked back at the girl. She didn't even hear them come in. A man in a white sports jacket and a black and red bowler hat and four men in black suits and sunglasses walked behind him.
The man in white took a puff from a cigar and spread the ashes on the floor. Rosa wished she had her lightsaber on her now, but she left it back at beacon.
"Damnit." Rosa said quietly.
He placed a case on the glass display case and watched the old man shake.
"P-please! Just take my Lien and leave!" The old man said.
"Shhh, shhh, shhh, shhh, calm down, we're not here for your money. Grab the Dust." The four men started taking out dust containers and were stealing the dust. Rosa started gathering force energy when one of the goons stepped in front of the other girl. Her music gave her away.
"Alright kid, put your hands where I can see 'em." Rosa was about to help her when she didn't move. She didn't hear him.
"Hey, I said hands in the air! You got a death wish or something!?" He said. Rosa would laugh if this wasn't so dangerous. The girl turns around and finally realizes what's going on.
"Yes?" She asked.
"I said, put your hands in the air, now!" He was getting angry.
"Are you robbing me?" She asked.
"Yes!"
"Oh."
She kicks him in the gut, sending him flying. Rosa stopped and looked at the girl. She was stronger than she looked. Rosa looked back at the scene with a new sense of relief. This girl was good. She must be a huntress in training. Another goon tried to stop her, and she took out her weapon, a high-capacity sniper rifle, and shot at the wall, slamming into the goon. They both went flying out of the shop window. The first goon got up and pulled out a pistol. Rosa sent a force push, sending him out into a tree across the street.
The man in white turned to look at her and the other girl.
"Two little heroes?" He said. "Get the red one."
Rosa went to chase after the man in white while the other girl expertly took out the remaining goons. The man in white turned around and hit Rosa in the side with his cane.
"Look, I'm on a schedule here, and I can't miss my flight, so please, piss off." He said. The last goon was taken down and he shook his head at them.
"You were worth every cent. Truly, you were." He said condescendingly. "As much as I'd love to stick around... I'm afraid this is where we part ways."
He fired at the red girl, who jumped over it, and was gone.
"You okay if I go after him?" She asked. The shopkeeper nodded yes. Then she was off.
"Are you okay?" Rosa asked.
"Yes, just a little shaken up."
"I'll go help her." Rosa went after Red.
She followed her up to a rooftop where the man in white tossed a shard of dust at her and shot it. There was an explosion. Rosa was about to use the force to help Red when Glynda was on the roof.
"Where…?" Rosa got out. She shot Rosa a glance and turned her attention back to the ship. A mysterious woman took over and started using glass shards to fight Glynda. The shards were superheated, and made Glynda fight them off as hard as she could. Another explosion and the ship was gone.
Red looked at Glynda with stars in her eyes.
"Can I have your autograph?"
Glynda had dragged Both Rosa and Ruby, as Rosa learned, down to an interrogation room. Rosa was put in the same room, both waiting for Glynda.
"Are we in trouble?" Ruby asked.
"Probably." Rosa said. "My name's Rosa by the way. Rosa Reidan."
"Ruby Rose."
Glynda stepped through and glared at them both.
"I hope that you realize that your actions tonight will not be taken lightly, young ladies. You put yourselves and others in great danger."
Rosa had heard stuff like this back when she was a youngling and her clanmates and she would get into trouble. She must have taken a decade off Yoda.
"But they started it." Ruby said. Not the best defense. But it was true.
"If it were up to me, you'd be sent home... With a pat on the back..." She slammed down her wand. "And a slap on the wrist. But... there is someone here who would like to meet you." Glynda said.
Ozpin stepped in with a tray of cookies. She looked at him like he'd gone crazy, something that wasn't lost on him. He sat down and looked at Ruby.
"Rosa, would you follow Professor Goodwitch?" Rosa stood up and did so, giving Ruby a worried glance.
"Um… she did nothing wrong." Ruby said.
"Ruby Rose, you… have silver eyes."
"Thank you? Is Rosa going to get in trouble?"
"We're not punishing her. She's being escorted back home, as her guardians are here."
"Is my dad here?"
"Not yet."
"So, where did you learn to fight?" He gave her a tablet of her fight.
"Signal academy." She said nervously.
"They taught you to use one of the most dangerous weapons ever designed?" Ozpin asked, raising an eyebrow. She took a cookie and ate it.
"Well, a particular one." She said, finishing her first cookie, then she started eating more, without finishing them.
"Glynda, is that what a chipmunk does?" Rosa asked.
"Yes." Glynda sighed, shaking her head at the young woman filling her mouth with the treats.
"It's just that I've only seen one other scythe-wielder of that skill before. A dusty, old crow."
"That's my uncle!" Ruby said, barely audible with a chunk of cookie coming out of her mouth. Rosa looked at Glynda who looked both amused and disgusted at this display. Ozpin handed her a mug and she gulped down the cookies. She hit her chest twice, then let out a sigh of relief.
"Sorry. That's my Uncle Qrow! He's a teacher at Signal. I was complete garbage before he took me under his wing. And now, I'm all like— Hooowaaah! Witchaaaa!"
Rosa smiled at this display. Her form was awful, but the spirit was there.
"So, I've noticed. And what is an adorable girl such as yourself doing at a school designed to train warriors?" Ozpin asked, getting to the point.
"Yeah! I only have two more years of training left at Signal! And then I'm going to apply to Beacon! You see, my sister's starting there this year, and she's trying to become a Huntress, and I'm trying to become a Huntress 'cause I wanna help people. My parents always taught us to help others, so I thought, Hey, I might as well make a career out of it! I mean the police are alright, but Huntsmen and Huntresses are just so much more romantic and exciting and cool and really, gosh, you know!"
The longer she went the faster she got, and more excited. She's missing maturity, but there's a good base there… but Rosa felt there was something below all of this. Something more than she wasn't telling. She felt… pain.
"Do you know who I am?" Ozpin asked
"You're professor Ozpin"
"Hello." He put on a smile.
"Nice to meet you." Ruby said with more confidence in her than she had at the start.
"Do you want to come to my school?" Ozpin asked.
"More than anything." Ruby said. Ozpin turned his head and smirked. Glynda let out a hmmph.
"Well, Okay." Ozpin said. It was official. Ruby would be joining Beacon.
"Where are we going to put her?" Glynda asked no one in particular.
Rosa smiled, knowing that she'd be able to see Ruby again.
And she did, in two weeks. Everyone, including her just for show, was brought aboard an airship. It made her nervous at first, but she calmed down quickly after doing some Jedi meditation.
She saw Ruby and Yang, hugging, Yang almost choking her sister to death. She smiled and turned away, seeing a girl in white, and a girl in black looking out a window, both looking bored. A hologram of Glynda showed up and introduced herself.
"You are among a privileged few who have received the honor of being selected to attend this prestigious academy! Our world is experiencing an incredible time of peace, and as future Huntsmen and Huntresses, it is your duty to uphold it. You have demonstrated the courage needed for such a task, and now it is our turn to provide you with the knowledge and the training to protect our world." Then she disappeared. She wasn't good with words as she learned the hard way.
Rosa held onto her necklace, a memento from her days as a Jedi. It was her clan symbol and her official Emblem. She was a proud member of the Katarn clan. Her emblem looked like an upside-down ink fountain pen head with two dots on either side. She let go of the necklace just in time to hear someone behind her puking.
Author's notes: This is chapter one of Jedi Huntress, a new series that I'm writing. It's a different timeline to the Jedi Hunter series. I can't promise to work on this all the time, but this chapter is DONE!
Rosa Reidan is the main character of this series. I know I repeated with the same prompt of a padawan coming to Remnant, but this time… it's unique because… It's a woman!
But all joking aside, I think there's only one other story with a female Jedi padawan lead.
Rosa is very different from Karel.
The story will be different.
I may have to change the rating to M later because of the dark themes I'll be going into (Everyone is messed up in some way you know), so keep that in mind.
Review, like, favorite, and everything else.
