Volume 0: Chapter 7. Fracture

(With Naruto)

Sitting silently on a small fountain in a secluded portion of Beacon's campus, Naruto was joined by Winter. Who had followed the boy for a more private conversation per his request, but at the moment neither Naruto or Winter were saying much. Instead the soft sound of the fountains running water was the only sound that could be heard between the pair. Though as Winter started to fan herself the silence was broken.

"I can't understand how you've lived here these last few months. The heat is infuriating."

Naruto cracked a small smile. "It's just something you get used to, but I'll be the first to admit that the weather here doesn't compare to back home."

"And that's something we agree completely on."

Naruto simply nodded, while his eyes gazed down at the small brown leather gloves that Winter wore. To anyone else the accessories would appear like a fashion choice carried over from the Atlas climate or even used for more tactical purposes in combat. Yet Naruto knew better, as this wasn't the first time he has noticed the girl wearing some kind of gloves.

"You know I've said it before, but not in person." Naruto began with a shift in mood, which made Winter move her gaze to him.

"Oh? And what would that be?"

"I'm sorry for what I did." Naruto replied with regret behind his voice.

Winter crossed her arms and seemed to ponder over the apology for a moment. "Well you did keep a pretty big secret from me for years about not wanting to attend Atlas and that pissed me off. You also acted like a complete moron and avoided me for weeks, but I did get some payback for that. So I'll think over accepting your rather poor attempt at an apology."

Naruto rolled his eyes. "What should I do? Go buy some gifts and flowers too?"

Laughing with a smug face, Winter shrugged her shoulders. "It would be a start, but I won't let you off that easily."

Naruto sighed and lowered his head. "To be honest I shouldn't be forgiven that easily, especially when you didn't even mention the worst thing I did to you. I could never apologize for hurting you the way I did."

Flicking Naruto's ear, Winter gave Naruto a rather annoyed look. "Now what are you talking about? I already explained everything I was upset about. Are you insinuating you know more about my own feelings than I do?"

Rubbing his now red and throbbing ear, Naruto used his free hand to point at Winter's covered hands. "When I lost control of my semblance I burnt you by mistake."

"So?"

"I left permanent damage to the point where you always wear gloves." Naruto shot back with self loathing frustration in his voice. "I know you Winter, you're someone who is always trying to be perfect in everything you do. So trust me, I know more than anyone that you're upset with the imperfections I caused. That's something I can never be forgiven for."

Shaking her head, Winter slowly removed one glove allowing Naruto to see the burn scars she had received. Then by slowly removing the other she began to speak in a low voice. "You're such a stupid boy."

Reaching out, Winter grabbed Naruto's hands and held tightly onto the blond. Allowing Naruto to feel the rough texture of the scars.

"I don't wear these for my own image or because I'm obsessed with being perfect."

Naruto lifted his brow. "Then why?"

"Well I do hate looking at them, but only because of what they remind me of. That of course being the day I almost completely lost the most important person in my life."

"Winter I-. . ."

"So trust me when I say you will apologize daily for leaving me to go scurry off to Beacon. You will also work your ass off to earn my forgiveness for ignoring me all those weeks before you left, but you will never have to say sorry for what happened the day you lost control. So perk up before I decide to push your head into this fountain and then freeze it with some dust."

"I really can't put into words how much I've missed you." Naruto replied with a small laugh, which caused Winter to hold her head high.

"Well you can try, I surely won't stop you."

"Hmm maybe another time, but I'm curious how has your time in Atlas Academy been?"

Slowly starting to place her gloves on once more, Winter sighed. "Uneventful, of course I've been top of my class in everything. Yet without my trusty little minion by my side I've been ever so bored."

"I'm sure you have oh great Mistress Schnee."

Lifting her brow, Winter gave Naruto a rather annoyed look. "Is that sarcasm I hear in your voice?"

"Me? Sarcastic? I would never!"

"Oh I'm sure you wouldn't."

Naruto was the one to give off an annoyed look this time. "Was that an attempt at a joke or were you just mocking me?"

"Yes." Winter replied with a small smile, while resting her hands against the fountain. "But you've spent your whole life in Atlas and your Father is the headmaster, I'm sure there isn't much you don't know about my academy. Instead tell me about your time here."

"Well what would you like to know?"

Rubbing her chin, Winter thought over several questions. "Hmmm I guess the best place to start is your team. Tell me about them, I'm sure none compare to me, but I'm curious to learn about them."

"Well there is Roman, he's a complete asshole and we don't really get along all that well. Then there is Gretchen who is kinda like that Elm girl I met except larger in both size and personality. In fact she can almost get on your nerves at times. Finally there is Amber, who is someone I'm starting to get a feel for. At first she was impossible to get close to and would shut everyone out. Though these last few weeks we have started to develop a closer bond."

Blushing a deep shade of red, Winter leaned forward almost immediately. "And what kind of bond would that be?"

"The friendly kind?" Naruto began with a small amount of confusion at the question. "But I wouldn't say I'm close to any of my teammates like I am with you or Neo."

Backing away with a pleased expression, Winter began to nod her head. "Well that's expected. After all, you, me and-. . . Wait-. . ." Winter then paused and robotically twitched her head back to Naruto. "Who the hell is Neo!?"

"Oh that's right I still haven't told you about her!"

"Her?" Winter hissed out, while Naruto only laughed innocently.

"Yeah she's definitely the person I've grown the closest to here at Beacon. I actually can't wait for you to meet her yourself!"

Winter's eyes slightly twitched, while her lips curled into a rather forced smile. "And just who is this Neo?"

"She's actually the reason my team isn't going to be a part of the Vytal Tournament. A few weeks ago my team found Neo running in the streets from some thugs that were trying to kill her. . . You should have seen her that day Winter, she was petrified, dirty, malnourished and alone."

"What did you do?" Winter asked softly, as her mood completely shifted at what Naruto was telling her.

"I beat the shit out of those guys and took Neo in. She had nobody because her parents were killed and there wasn't anyone willing to take in a dirty mute girl. So for the last few weeks my team has been watching over Neo and keeping her safe. I mean she isn't even as old as Weiss and she's already seen so much. I'll protect her no matter what."

Smiling softly and resting a hand on Naruto's leg, Winter locked eyes with the blond. "You're a good person, you know that right?"

"Was that a complement?"

Laughing and bumping into Naruto, Winter gave a small nod. "Don't get used to it, Imbecile."

"Well on a serious note I want your opinion on something." Naruto mumbled in a rather off tone, as he gazed up into the sky.

"Alright what is it?"

"My team knows the gang who killed Neo's parents. We don't know why they want Neo or where they are, but we know they are quite powerful in both Vale and Mistral. However, things have gotten complicated recently as someone snuck into my room last night and tried to kill Neo. I stopped the man, but before he could be taken away for questioning he was killed while in the custody of the Vale authorities. Ozpin expects my team to solve this problem on our own, but we are way out of our league on this."

"Naruto this sounds ridiculous for a bunch of academy students! Have you told your Father about this?"

"Yeah, he's actually going to talk about the whole situation with Ozpin right now, but I don't know what to do. I want to protect Neo more than anything and yet I can't think of any plan or solution. Plus my team is a mess and we hardly work well together if at all.

"To me it sounds like you've gotten yourself into quite the bind and people's lives are on the line. However, you're lucky to have me here to make sure everything works out fine."

Naruto quickly shook his head. "No, I'm absolutely not getting you involved with this."

"Well it's a little late for that Imbecile, as you've already told me everything. Regardless, you said your team doesn't work well together as a unit, but we both know that when push comes to shove you and I are quite the duo."

"Winter I-. . ."

"Besides it sounds like you're having struggles with leading your team and we both know without me you're completely hopeless. So face it Imbecile, I'm the best you've got."

Sighing at his best friend's words, Naruto was about to admit that Winter had a point. Though before he could even open his mouth a voice called out to him.

"Hey Naruto I've got class, so it's your turn to watch over Neo." The voice of Amber shouted out, which made Naruto and Winter both glance to the side. Allowing the duo to see a smiling Neo running ever so happily to Naruto.

This of course made Naruto smile and dash over to the small girl, which resulted in Naruto scooping Neo into the air and giving her a twirl. "Hey Neo I got someone very special I want you to meet!"

Winter watching Naruto with a soft smile noticed the girl who had brought Neo wave before walking off. Yet before she could focus more on Naruto's teammate the young woman found Naruto and Neo standing overtop of her. Both of whom were sporting practically identical smiles.

"Neo this is my best friend from back home Winter Schnee!"

'Hello!'

Winter gave a small laugh and eye smile, while her hands danced throughout the air. 'It's wonderful to meet you Neo, I hope that big idiot behind you has been behaving himself.'

Neo's eyes beaming with amazement at yet another person she could communicate with quickly moved her hands to reply. 'Of course! Naruto is the best!'

'Now I wouldn't go around saying that, you may swell his ego a little too much.'

Naruto's eyes twitched at Winter's comment. "You're one to talk about having an ego Ice Queen."

"Now Naruto if you're to watch over Neo you must try to be a little nicer to me. You're giving the girl a poor representation of how a man should treat a lady like me and Neo. It's truly a stroke of luck I am here to help you."

'Yeah Naruto be nice to me and Winter!'

An expression of dread covering his face, Naruto immediately pointed a finger at Winter. "Oh no, you're not turning sweet little Neo into a mini version of yourself."

Holding a hand to her chest, Winter gave a mock expression of hurt, while Neo's face grew a large grin of amusement. "Now what would be wrong with Neo taking after me? I'm a great role model for young girls like herself. In fact it's far better than her turning into you."

Naruto glared at Winter and held his ground. "You've already corrupted poor Weiss and I won't let you do the same to Neo."

"You're not the boss of me, if I want to share with her a few lady secrets I shall." Winter began with a strong wave of confidence, which made Neo look up to Naruto.

'You two are funny! I can see why you like her so much Naruto!'

Blushing a deep shade of red at Neo's sign language, Naruto could only inwardly groan at the smirk he saw on Winter's face.

"Now Neo, has Naruto been talking about me?" The white haired teenager asked, which of course made Neo nod.

'Yeah all the time actually!'

Laughing at the situation unfolding, Winter rested a hand on Neo's shoulder. "And just like how you used Weiss against me the tables have shifted ever so wonderfully in my favor. Oh I'm sure me and little Neo here are going to get along very well and she can tell me all your little dark secrets."

'I sure can!'

(With James)

Standing before Ozpin's desk with a strong and commanding presence, James silently watched the man take a small sip from his coffee. Yet as the man with the eternal soul lowered his mug, he gestured for James to take a seat.

"Please James relax yourself, I'm sure you're exhausted from your travels."

Holding his hand up, James merely shook his head. "I prefer to stand, but I won't stay long anyhow. I merely wished to inform you personally of my arrival and discuss one concerning matter."

"And what would that be?"

"I'm concerned about the situation that involves my son's team and this Neo girl." James began in a rather serious and sharp voice, while he crossed his arms over his chest. "I spoke with Naruto not too long ago and what he shared with me wasn't pleasant news."

"He told you about the intruder they captured last night."

"Ozpin let's not sugar coat this and refer to the man properly, which was an assassin. Who had breached your academy's lackluster security, snuck into my son's room and almost killed a small child. Yet this isn't the worst part of the situation, as this assassin was in turn killed to ensure he remained silent."

"Yes these are serious and alarming issues, but I will work to better fortify Beacon's security."

"But you're not grasping the main problem at hand Ozpin!" James shouted out, while slamming his hands onto the man's desk. "This entire situation is too much for a bunch of fresh academy students. Hell this might even be borderline too much for your average huntsman."

"I believe you're underestimating your son's capabilities, he's shown strength and ability that far surpasses a normal huntsman. Then there is Amber, who with her maiden powers is a force to be reckoned with. Those two alone are more than enough to handle any threat."

"Damnit Ozpin it's not always about strength! Sure my son is very skilled and Amber is the Fall Maiden, but they have no field experience to their name. All of that talent and ability is wasted without the proper leadership to channel and guide them."

Ozpin took a moment to himself and seemed to ponder over the words of his fellow headmaster. Since he had been placing a large amount of faith within Team NGRA due to their strength, but at the same time James was making some good points.

"I've been watching your son and his team from afar, knowing they are strong enough to protect themselves and Neo. Hoping this trial by fire would give them the lack of experience they would need to take their next steps forward."

"And that's the problem Ozpin, they are still children. All you're doing is suffocating them in this pressure and causing them to collapse on themselves."

"Hmm, well if Naruto and his team are struggling with leadership, perhaps a revision to their mission is in order?"

James gazed at Ozpin with a cold and calculated look, not particularly liking how the man phrased his question. "What are you getting at Ozpin?"

"Simple, you say Team NGRA needs proper leadership and that this mission has gotten too out of hand for them. I on the other hand still feel they can succeed and grow from this situation. So a compromise can be made." Ozpin began, as he glanced at a small monitor on his desk. "My best huntsman is arriving for a monthly report later tonight. So I'll assign him as Team NGRA's temporary mentor slash leader, which should fix your concerns."

Closing his eyes and softly sighing, James merely nodded. "Having a seasoned huntsman would help, just please tell me you're not referring to who I think you are."

"Oh come on James, he's not that bad."

(The next day)

Naruto couldn't help himself from taking a long winded sigh of exhaustion, which of course made Winter lift her brow.

"Have something you would like to say?" The white haired heiress asked in a rather challenging tone, which of course made Naruto's eyes twitch.

When Winter had said she expected Naruto to be apologizing to her on a daily basis he never imagined anything beyond a simple sorry. Yet instead the Atlas student had a much different idea, which explained why she was currently sitting under the shade of a large tree with a decent picnic spread laid out before her. However, as Winter sipped on a cup of tea, she wasn't sharing this picnic with Naruto. Since to her exact words, Naruto was just the idiotic help. Who was meant to serve Winter and Neo, the latter of whom was trying her hardest to mimic Winter's high society ladylike mannerisms.

"No, I have nothing to say at all." Naruto replied through his teeth, while forcing the best smile he could muster.

Scoffing and holding her cup outward, Winter gave Naruto a rather annoyed look. "Actually the correct response would have been how can I be of further service. Honestly, Naruto I know you were raised better than this."

"Of course, how rude of me." Naruto began as he was grinding his teeth together. "So how may I be of further service?"

"Hmmm, well I am quite hot and could use a nice cooling off. What about you Neo?"

Grinning from ear to ear, if Neo could have made a giggling noise she would have. 'Yes I feel a little hot as well. Perhaps the help can do something about that?'

Not liking how well Winter and Neo were getting along with one another, Naruto reached into a small basket and grabbed a hand fan. Then trying his hardest to keep his composure, Naruto began to fan both Winter and Neo.

"Is this better?"

"It's adequate, but will have to suffice."

Naruto was about to smack Winter over the head with the small fan that he was currently cracking with his iron tight grip. However, before Naruto could even think about a response a new voice made themselves known.

"Heyyyy. . . Which one of you brats is Jimmy's kid?"

Looking at the speaker, Naruto found an older man with raven black hair and a large weapon on his back. Yet the most notable thing about the man was his stench, which reeked of alcohol. Though watching the man stumble, Naruto could tell this unknown individual was clearly drunk. An observation that Winter was able to make along with Naruto, but unlike Naruto she displayed a clear distaste for the man.

"What are you going on about you drunken buffoon?"

The man grabbed a flask from within his jacket, while his crimson eyes looked over the trio with little care. "My name is Qrow Branwen kiddo, not buffoon. However." Qrow quickly took a pause and began to down the flask with relative ease. "I am quite drunk."

"You appalling-. . ."

"Hold on Ice Queen." Naruto mumbled softly, which made Qrow snort at the girl's nickname. "My old man has mentioned this guy before. You're a huntsman that works for Professor Ozpin right? My old man said to be on the lookout for you, but he didn't tell me anything in detail."

Qrow nodded and tucked away his flask. "Yup, so I guess that makes you Jimmy's son."

Naruto blinked at the man's lack of respect for his father, something that didn't sit well with the blond. "You know my Dad's name is James right?"

"I'm aware."

Winter folded her arms and glared at the disrespectful man. "Well what business do you have with the imbecile? As you can see we are quite busy."

Holding his hands out with a rather sarcastic expression, Qrow took a slight bow. "Oh I didn't mean to interrupt your little date." The huntsman began in a mocking tone of voice, while both Naruto and Winter turned red in embarrassment. "But Ozpin has officially placed me as the head huntsman over your team and your little mission. So until that little girl is safe you will answer to me."

Surprised by this outcome, Naruto welcomed it all the same. Since he found it an improvement to having a bunch of children trying to fix a problem way out of their capabilities. "Well if that's the case I'll do everything I can to follow your lead. What would you like me to do?"

Waving Naruto off, Qrow started to walk off. "Just keep the kid safe. No one knows who I am so I can gather information better on my own."

"Are you sure you don't want me to help?" Naruto called out, while Qrow didn't even bother to turn around.

"Nope, I work best alone, but I'll find ya if I have anything to share." The middle aged drunk replied before walking off, leaving Naruto with a mixture of emotions, while Winter just seemed annoyed.

"Well I hate him." Winter announced, while Naruto sighed.

"He's interesting for sure, but at least he will help Neo." Naruto mumbled softly as he glanced over to Neo with a smile. "So that makes him alright in my book."

"I would disagree, but on the bright side for the next few days you can dedicate yourself to making me and Neo happy."

Naruto slumped over and groaned, which earned a laugh from Winter. So glancing at the girl he loved and then looking at the one he promised to protect, Naruto couldn't help himself from smiling. Since spending his free time with them was something he did chereish more than anything.

(Opening day of the Vytal Tournament)

It has been a few days since Winter had arrived at Beacon, but after several days of laughs and adventures today was the start of the Vytal Tournament. However, since Naruto wasn't competing and Qrow had told him to only worry about keeping Neo safe for the moment, he figured the best way to spend the tournament was cheering on Winter. So that's why with signs already made, Naruto and Neo were both sitting high in the stands and cheering loudly for Winter.

"Come on Ice Queen!" Naruto roared loudly, while he tried to frantically wave the girl down so she would see him.

Neo herself couldn't audibly cheer for Winter, but the enthusiastic way she waved her homemade sign around made it clear for anyone watching to know she supported Winter.

The crowd erupting in loud cheers as the battle between the young huntsmen and huntresses ensued, Naruto couldn't help himself from feeling a little antsy. Since he would have enjoyed having the chance to jump into the chaos and try to win the tournament. Though he accepted that it wasn't in the cards for this year to compete, but Naruto knew he would have other opportunities in the future. Yet moving his eyes away from the action, Naruto looked at Neo.

"Hey are you having fun?"

Her eyes flashing with wonder, Neo quickly nodded. 'Of course! Watching Winter is a lot of fun, she's so talented!'

Naruto laughed at Neo's enthusiasm. "Well I'll have you know she's never beaten me!"

'Well you're the best!'

Naruto laughed and ruffled Neo's hair. "You know it!"

'Will you teach me how to be like you and Winter?'

Tapping his chin and thinking to himself, Naruto eventually gave Neo a wide grin. "Maybe one day, but I definitely won't let you turn into a mini Winter."

'Don't worry! If anything I wanna be just like you when I get bigger!'

Naruto felt a small warmth in his chest at what Neo had declared, but the sensation was quickly replaced by a rather rough hand gripping down and shaking his shoulder. Making Naruto look over his shoulder to find Roman of all people taking an empty seat behind him.

"Roman?" Naruto began in confusion, while Neo turned and looked at the rebellious teen.

"The one and only." Roman replied in a rather relaxed voice as he held his arms out as if his arrival was some grand spectacle.

Shaking his head and realizing his teammates was just casually sitting behind him, Naruto couldn't help from feeling a large amount of frustration and confusion. "What have you been doing?"

Shrugging his shoulders and reclining back, Roman gave a rather cocky smirk. "Well looking for you and Neo of course, while avoiding the wicked bitch of the west."

"That's not what I meant Roman." Naruto began with anger laced within his words. "You've been completely missing for the last several days. No one has seen or heard from you and now you just show up!"

"I needed some time to cool down and de-stress myself, so I shacked up with some old friends for a few days. However, there is no need to be all upset. I'm back to grace your miserable lives."

Rolling his eyes at the teen's reply, Naruto moved his attention back to Winter's fight. Smiling as he saw the girl he loved along with her team had won their first match.

"Come on Neo." Naruto started as he stood to his feet with a beaming smile. "Let's go congratulate Winter."

'Okay!'

Roman watching Naruto and Neo walk off with slight interest slowly brought himself to a standing position and sucked in his teeth for a moment, while his hand subconsciously pressed against his side.

"Now you two are just going to leave me like that?" Roman asked in a rather relaxed voice as he started to follow Naruto and Neo.

Looking over his shoulder and watching Roman trailing behind, Naruto merely lifted his brow at the boy's rather strange behavior. "I mean we are just meeting up with my friend, it's not really something you would care about."

"Nonsense I'm a man of opportunity, I always enjoy networking with new people."

Holding tightly onto Neo's hand as he walked, Naruto merely shrugged his shoulder. "Alright, but just a fair warning. If you struggle getting along with Amber then Winter is going to be ten times worse for you."

"I'll keep that in mind." Roman shot back in a rather uncaring tone, while he followed Naruto and Neo outside of the stadium.

Then as the group of three moved towards a small crowd, Naruto smiled as he saw Winter having a post team talk with her teammates. Without a doubt knowing the girl was probably chewing out each member for what they did wrong instead of giving them a simple well done or congratulations. Yet as Winter spotted Naruto and Neo, she quickly excused herself from her team and walked over to Naruto and Neo. The latter of whom was bursting with excitement to see Winter after her match.

"Well." Winter began in a rather superior tone, as she brushed her hair to the side and smirked. "You can go ahead and tell me how amazing I was."

Grinning ear to ear at the girl, Neo ran forward to meet Winter halfway. 'You were amazing!'

Naruto simply scoffed and stood behind Neo with a rather cocky smirk. "Well I wouldn't go that far Neo, her form was a little sloppy."

Winter rolled her eyes. "Oh please, if anything you could learn a thing or two from me."

"I'd disagree, but still I'm happy you won." Naruto began with a soft smile, which made Winter blush red. "And did you see me and Neo cheering for you?"

Quickly composing herself and shaking her head, Winter gave Neo a rather apologetic look. "The arena is rather large and my attention was on my match so no, but I appreciate your support Neo."

'You're welcome!'

"What about me?" Naruto asked in an annoyed voice, which made Winter cross her arms.

"What about you?" Winter replied in a stern voice, which made Naruto deflate and lower his head.

"Whatever." The blond mumbled in a rather down tone, which made Winter flick him overtop his head. "Oww, what was that for?"

"Imbecile." Winter began with a rather warm and heartfelt smile. "After all these years you should know by now I appreciate you without saying it."

Rubbing his head, Naruto couldn't help himself from smiling back. "Still doesn't mean you can't tell me every once in a while."

Winter rolled her eyes. "Don't hold your breath Imbecile." The girl began, while her eyes snapped to Roman who was awkwardly lingering by the trio and just observing. "And can I help you?"

Naruto seeing Winter taking notice of Roman merely held his hand out and laughed. "This is one of my teammates Roman Torchwick and Roman this is Winter Schnee."

Shaking his head in disbelief, Roman looked between Naruto and Winter. "God there are two of them."

"Huh?" Winter began as she placed her hands onto her hips and leaned forward. "If you're insinuating I'm anything like this moron, you're stupider than he is."

Backing away and scoffing, Roman gave a rather uncaring look to Naruto. "You weren't kidding, she's a bitch just like Amber."

Her eyes snapping instantly onto Naruto, Winter quickly grabbed the boy by his shirt. "I'm a what Naruto?"

Holding his hands up and sweating nervously at the tone in which Winter spoke his actual name, Naruto quickly shook his head. "I never said that! He's putting words in my mouth! Tell her Neo."

'I don't wanna! This is fun!'

'Traitor.' Naruto thought to himself, while he swore his life started to flash before his eyes. Yet to Naruto's sheer and borderline ridiculous luck, a familiar voice made themselves known.

"Hey brat." Qrow called out in a rather serious voice, which froze the situation. "Take a break from your girlfriend and come with me."

Blushing once again, Winter released Naruto who was also blushing a deep shade of red. "She/he isn't my girlfriend/boyfriend!"

"Yeah whatever." Qrow grumbled in a rather uncaring tone, while pointing directly at Naruto. "Ozpin and your old man gave me very specific instructions in helping with your little situation. One of those was to have you work with me when I go to apprehend the bastards who are after the girl. Something about getting some real experience."

"Wait, you have a lead?" Naruto asked, which made Qrow nod.

"I wouldn't be here if I didn't brat, got word that Lil Miss Malachite has a gambling hall hidden under a dust store she pushes a majority of her funds through. Me and you are going to go crash the place and take the fight to them."

Resting his hands subconsciously onto his weapons, Naruto gave the older man a look of confidence. "Alright I'm ready when you are then."

"Good let's-. . ."

"Hold it right there." Winter cut in with a stern voice, as she glared at Qrow. "If you're dragging Naruto straight into the belly of the beast, then I am going as well."

"I'm not some glorified babysitter." Qrow shot back, which made Winter huff.

"I've been told how dangerous these people are and I refuse to let Naruto go without proper backup." Winter declared in a stern voice, showing she wouldn't be swayed on the matter.

"Winter it's fine, Qrow is an actual huntsman. Besides, someone has to stay and take care of Neo."

"Actually I'd be more than willing to watch over Neo." Roman spoke up, as he stepped forward much to Naruto's confusion. "I've been absent for awhile so no one has seen me with Neo unlike you two. So hiding her with me would be a good distraction for you."

Winter smiled and held her hand out. "See the buffoon will take care of Neo and I can assist you. Problem solved."

"You're not coming." Qrow began as he was really starting to hate Winter, but the feeling was mutual.

"You reek of the same cheap stuff that my Mother drinks. I'm not relying on someone like you to watch Naruto's back." Winter then folded her arms and nudged her head. "So let's get a move on things or just give me and Naruto the location. If you're wanting to be a child then the two of us will do this by ourselves."

Realizing there was no talking Winter out of the situation, Qrow merely sighed and started to walk. "Whatever, you two brats just watch out for each other and keep your distance from me." The man instructed thinking that Naruto and Winter could keep each other safe, while he and his curse of a semblance could stay a safe distance away from the pair.

Smirking with a sense of victory, Winter immediately snapped her attention to Neo. "We'll be back soon, so stay safe until then!"

'Only if you and Naruto come back safe!'

"Don't worry about us." Winter replied softly.

Watching the small interaction between Winter and Neo, Naruto laughed and stood by the girl's side. "And after we are back we can celebrate with some ice cream. How does that sound?"

Her eyes flickering with life, Neo quickly nodded. 'That sounds great!'

"Shouldn't you two hurry up and get out of here?" Roman asked.

Winter's joyful expression quickly dropped to a much more hardened and deathly glare as she shifted her eyes to Roman. "Oh and just so we're clear. If I find Neo isn't exactly how I left her. I'll kill you."

Knowing Qrow was waiting for them and another blowout with Roman should be avoided. Naruto merely rested a hand on Winter and started to push the girl away with an awkward laugh. "Let's get moving Winter!"

Watching Naruto and Winter walking off into the distance, Roman glanced at Neo. Who was waving goodbye at the two teenagers she cared so much for.

"Come on." Roman spoke up in a low and hollow voice, while he grabbed onto Neo's arm and started to lead her in the opposite direction.

Neo looked at the teen with confusion as he pulled her towards an unknown destination, while off in the distance a figure followed the two at a distance.

(15 minutes later)

Leading Neo through a tight and cluttered back alley, Roman didn't even bother to look at the mute girl as he pulled her along. Instead he brought Neo before a tall and rusted metal staircase, which led up into a rather bleak and sketchy storagehouse.

"Up here." Roman instructed as he dragged Neo up the stairs, feeling the resistance the girl was trying to apply against him. Yet it didn't matter what Neo did, as Roman easily got her into the building.

Neo staggering along felt uneasy and she couldn't see anything, which only made her nerves grow worse. Though the lack of vision didn't stop Roman from leading her forward. However, the slamming of the door behind them was a sudden shock that Roman wasn't expecting.

"What are you doing?"

Recognizing the voice clearly, Roman allowed his surprise to die down and merely looked over his shoulders. "Well hello there brute, following me?"

Standing at the entrance, Gretchen could be seen with her arms crossed while the light from outside made a silhouette around her figure.

"I won't ask again Roman." The large and visibly aggravated girl began, while she stepped forward and Roman took a step back in response. "So start explaining why you dragged Neo out here."

Slowly retreating back into the darkness, Roman kept an ironclad grip on Neo as he moved. "I really don't owe you any kind of explanation now do I?"

"With how terrified Neo looks? Yeah I think you do." Gretchen replied as she began to crack her knuckles.

Roman gritted his teeth, as he needed to think of something quick. Yet before anyone could react, the entire warehouse was suddenly illuminated by blinding white lights. Momentarily stunning Roman, Gretchen and Neo with the sudden shift of light.

"What are you doing!" Gretchen yelled out, while Roman narrowed his eyes and tried to adjust to the light.

"Trust me brute, this isn't my handy work."

A slow and soft clapping echoing throughout the room, the two teenagers and Neo turned to the origin of the noise and focused their eyes. Then as they adjusted themselves to their surroundings, the trio was met face to face with a heavy-set middle-aged woman with light skin and short blonde hair that was kept in a bob cut. Yet her most striking feature was a spider in its web tattooed on her left shoulder. However, Roman recognizing this woman immediately dropped down onto his knees and lowered his head in respect.

"Miss Malachite." Roman mumbled in a scared voice that was very unfitting of the normal cocky teenager.

Gretchen hearing this was slightly taken back as she looked at the woman and took notice that she wasn't alone. In fact Gretchen quickly counted five thugs flanking each of her sides. All of whom were armed with different weapons.

"Well it seems like you actually came through Torchwick." Miss Malachite began with a light laugh under her breath. "But it seems you also managed to let someone follow you. I hope you aren't trying to pull something by me."

Trembling and shaking his head, Roman was an obvious mess. "No of course not! I got careless and didn't realize I was being followed."

Hearing Roman, Gretchen stepped forward and got close enough to place a hand on Neo's shoulder. An action that instantly made Lil Miss Malachite's goons draw and point their weapons forward. Yet this didn't frighten Gretchen, as the young woman had a strong resolve. Instead she merely glared at the individual who had made Neo's life a waking nightmare with pure hatred.

"Why are you doing this to Neo?" Gretchen asked without any fear behind her words. "She's just a child."

"Why does anyone do anything in this world dear?" Miss Malachite began in a casual voice, while rubbing her fingers together. "For wealth and power."

"And just how exactly would you get that from a small girl?" Gretchen asked.

"Well the girl herself is quite insignificant if I'm being honest, but her parents did own a nice spot of property. A small empty lot smack in the middle of Vale, which I could use to run millions of Lien through. Unfortunately the girl's parents wouldn't sell. So I had to make the property become more available in the market."

Gretchen dug her nails into her fist. "So that's why you had Neo's parents killed."

"Allegedly, but you see with the girl's parents gone now the property falls onto her name. So you can see how that is a conflict to my current interests."

Glaring down at Roman, Gretchen was shaking with anger. "So you're just handing Neo over to her so she can get a piece of property? All so you can just save your own pathetic ass?"

Gritting his teeth and closing his eyes, Roman stayed on his knees. "You don't have the slightest clue as to what's going on."

"No she doesn't." Miss Malachite laughed loudly, while folding her arms. "You see sweetie, your little friend Roman works for me."

"What!"

Shaking her head, Miss Malachite was enjoying herself. "I've been wanting a few licensed huntsmen under my thumb for a while now, so I sent Roman to Beacon to make that happen. However, I would have never imagined he would cross paths with other plans that I was working on. I mean at first your little team threw a wrench in my plans, but once I learned Roman was involved it was all over. I had him follow your every move and tell me every single plan you and your team made. Little Roman has done everything for me from leaving your room unlocked to leaking that huntsman false information to distract your team!"

"Roman you piece of shit!" Gretchen yelled out, as she wanted to beat her teammate senseless. "Are you really okay with them killing Neo! You can't be that selfish and heartless?"

"Of course not!" Roman yelled loudly, showing a glimpse of his normal personality. "I would never do anything to harm a child. I even tried to help Neo, but my hands were tied."

"And his actions did lead to a small beating." Miss Malachite revealed with a vile grin. "But he eventually came to his senses and realized what was in his best interest."

"To hand Neo off to be killed to save his own ass?" Gretchen growled back, as she was about to snap.

"Like I said you don't know fucking shit!" Roman yelled back, as now his anger was taking over. "I took Neo here to sign her rights to the property away to save her and end this! I'm doing what no one else is doing and saving Neo!"

Taken back in surprise, Gretchen didn't know what to say. Since it was clear that Roman did have honest intentions to keep Neo safe.

"You know Roman I used to have such high hope for you." Miss Malachite began in a rather disappointed voice, while she relaxed her arms to her side. "I always felt you had such a bright future in my organization, but you're still a little too naive for my tastes."

Roman's eyes grew wide for a second, while his mind began to process the woman's words. Yet after a small second he knew what was happening and could only laugh at his own mistake.

"So that's how it's going to be?" Roman asked as he shook his head back and forth. Not even bothering to look up at Miss Malachite, who was slowly pointing a gun forward. "After all I've done, you're just gonna end me here and now."

"It's the proper thing to do, you and those two girls know too much. I'm only doing what needs to be done." Miss Malachite replied as she pulled back the safety. "No hard feelings."

"You know what." The teen spat out, as Miss Malachite's goons all held their aim forward. "You're a fat bitch."

"And you're a dead man." The crime boss mumbled as she began to fire her weapon.

Lowering his head and accepting his fate, Roman was shocked to find Gretchen grabbing tightly onto his back. Then by using her overwhelming strength the massive girl spun both Roman and Neo around and quickly shielded them both from a barrage of bullets.

"Let's move." Gretchen grunted as her aura began to flicker and she took off running with both Neo and Roman tucked into her arms.

"Kill them all!" Miss Malachite roared in anger.

"Brute what are you doing!" Roman yelled loudly through the piercing sound of gunshots, while Gretchen stumbled her way to the exit and her aura shattered.

Saying nothing, Gretchen definitely felt a bullet lodge itself into her shoulder. Yet the girl managed to stumble to the exit of the building and found herself standing at the apex of the metal staircase to the building. However, as more bullets drilled into her back, Gretchen kept her momentum forward and cradled both Neo and Roman as the trio rolled to the bottom of the staircase. Then coming to a sloppy and staggered roll, Gretchen somehow managed to find the strength to spring herself upwards.

"Are you both okay?" Gretchen asked before she coughed up some blood and stumbled into a brick wall by her side.

Neo was completely petrified in fear, but Roman was more than well enough to speak. "Better off than you it seems."

"Good." Gretchen replied as she moved forward and pushed both Neo and Roman out of the alleyway and into the street. "Roman if you want to keep Neo safe I would start running!"

Being thrusted out into the street by his teammate, Roman looked back to Gretchen who was leaning against a building for support. "And what about you?"

Giving Roman and Neo a bloodied smile, Gretchen tried to push herself off the building she was using for support. "I'm gonna kick their asses of cou-. . ."

Watching in horror as a bullet went straight through Gretchen's head, Neo and Roman couldn't do a single thing as the massive woman toppled over dead.

"Gretchen!" Roman yelled out in shock, as for the first and last time he used the girl's name.

Neo merely zoned out as she watched the pool of blood gather around Gretchen's body. Her mind burning the image into her tiny mind, thinking this was just like how she lost her parents all over again. Though as more bullets began to whiz by, Roman quickly scooped Neo into his arms and began to run throughout the city. Knowing he could lose their pursuers within the numerous crowds in the city.

"I just have to find Naruto and that huntsman." Roman mumbled, as he pressed forward with Neo in his arms.

(With Naruto)

Walking around the area with a rather bored and confused expression, Naruto looked over his shoulder to Qrow.

"You know when you said you had intel on Lil Miss Malachite's gang, here I thought we would actually find something."

Winter nodded and folded her arms. "Yeah you really missed the mark on this one. So well done you drunken idiot."

Qrow's eye violently twitching, the veteran huntsman glared at the two teenagers. "You know since you're Jimmy's kid you should know not all rumors you hear are accurate."

"While that is true." Naruto began as he lightly tapped a box filled with dust crystals before looking around the basement they were within. "This is just a storage basement and I don't see any gang activity do you?"

Qrow folded his arms. "Well brats have you found anything yourselves?" The huntsman asked as he let a small silence cut the air before smirking in victory. "Yeah I didn't think so, but keep looking around. I'm gonna go back upstairs and talk to the shop owner."

Watching Qrow walk up the stairs, Winter rolled her eyes and huffed. "I honestly can't stand him, he's like you without any of the charm or kindness."

Hearing Winter, Naruto was caught a little off guard by the compliment he was given. Something which made the blond lift his brow. "You think I'm charming?"

Blushing a deep shade of red Winter recoiled back. "I uh-. . . I mean." Winter stopped herself and gritted her teeth. Now was her moment she was waiting these last few weeks for. Her and Naruto were finally patching their relationship so it was time for her to finally come outright and tell Naruto she loved him.

Naruto on the other hand began to overthink the situation, as he was fairly smart and was starting to draw a multitude of conclusions about what Winter's words could mean. Wondering if his best friend had feelings for him like he did for her? Thinking that now might be the best chance they get for a while to come clean with his own feelings. No he wasn't just thinking it, Naruto knew he loved Winter and he was going to come clean with it.

"Winter I need to tell you something."

Holding her hand up, Winter quickly shook her head. "I promise it can wait, I have something much more important I need to say."

Naruto in turn shook his own head. "No, I've already gone too long without saying this, so please allow me."

"As have I, which is why I need to speak first."

"Winter it's important that I get this off my chest."

A slight vein popping on Winter's forehead, all hope of a pleasant conversation was slowly disappearing. "And as I told you imbecile I wish to have my say first."

Groaning in frustration and tugging at his hair, Naruto towered over Winter. "Damnit Ice Queen I said this is important, so just let me talk!"

Taking her finger and jabbing Naruto's chest with precision, Winter began to reply in between finger pokes. "After. I. Speak. First."

Puffing out his chest and leaning into Winter, Naruto slightly snarled. "You're being completely unreasonable, just let me say what I need to say."

"Haven't you heard of ladies first?"

"You hate confining yourself to gender norms."

"I swear I'm about to run my blade through that thick skull of yours!"

"Well can you wait until I say what I need to say?"

"That depends? Will you let me speak first?"

Screaming in complete and utter annoyance, Naruto tossed his hands high into the air. "Will you please just stop being so unreasonable and listen!"

"You're the one who is unreasonable! I'm trying to have a serious discussion here! You're being a complete child."

"I'm a child? You're a bossy bi-. . ."

Glaring with pure anger, Winter grabbed Naruto by his shirt and pulled him in close. "I dare you to finish that sentence."

"Or what?"

Shaking in anger, while her face was inches from Naruto's. Winter was about to punch the blond square in his face.

"It's a pure miracle by the gods that anyone would love you!"

"Hah I could say the same for you!"

"Luckily enough for you Imbecile/Ice Queen, I'm in love with you." Both Naruto and Winter yelled in pure anger, while their tempers had reached their peaks.

Yet as their minds began to process what the other had said, their anger quickly vanished. Then without even taking a second longer, Naruto and Winter both closed the tiny gap between each other and found their lips pressed against one another. Leaving the two in a sensation like they had never felt before as the kiss was rough and lacked any form of experience. Yet the moment was enough to leave Winter melting into the arms of Naruto, who only held tighter onto the girl he loved. Yet as their kiss ended, Naruto and Winter slowly backed away to look at one another.

"We should probably figure out what this means shouldn't we?"

Winter merely shook her head before pressing her forehead into Naruto's chest. "It's not that complicated imbecile."

Naruto let a soft laugh escape his lips as he kissed the crown of Winter's head. "Still gonna call me an imbecile Ice Queen?"

"Of course, you're an idiot after all." Winter replied with a laugh of her own. "But you're the idiot that I love more than anything."

"Hey!"

Hearing the voice of the shop owner, Naruto and Winter quickly broke apart while turning their attention to the elderly shopkeeper standing at the top of the staircase.

"If you two are done messing around I think there is something going on that might need your attention?"

Watching the man step away with interest, Naruto quickly walked up the staircase with Winter following close behind. Yet Naruto wasn't prepared for the sight he was going to find. Since standing by the shopkeeper's side was Neo who was covered in blood and tears. A sight that made Naruto and Winter both run forward without thinking and immediately come to the girl who barreled into the two teenagers.

"Neo what happened!" Naruto asked in a frantic voice as he began to check her for any injuries.

"Are you hurt!" Winter added in as she grabbed a small white handkerchief and wiped the girl's face clean.

Qrow observing the pair from a distance had to admit the young duo did look more like parents checking over their daughter instead of a couple of teenagers that annoyed him. Though as his eyes wandered to the windows of the shop, Qrow caught a glimpse of the person he saw earlier at the stadium. The one that Qrow knew was supposed to be watching over Neo. However, Roman was clearly in a similar state as Neo, but was merely watching the girl from a distance away and trying to stay hidden. Yet as Roman's eyes saw Qrow's looking directly at him, the young teenager visibly shuttered before turning around and running off.

An action that made Qrow quickly assume something was going on with that, but as his eyes moved back over to Neo. The aged huntsman could see that the girl was traumatized and inconsolable, as all she could do at the moment was cling onto Naruto and Winter. A sight that made Qrow sigh and walk forward.

"Let's go get her somewhere safe." Qrow began, as neither Naruto or Winter even looked his way. "We can figure out what happened later."

Nodding his head, Naruto stood to his feet and carried Neo in his arms. "Yeah let's go back to Beacon."

(Ozpin's office, 1 hour later)

Naruto was silent, as all he could do was sit at the chair he was at and look to the ground. His father was of course by his side and standing with a rather displeased face directed at Ozpin. The latter of whom was seated at his desk with a heavy aura of stress looming over him. Yet the final person within the office was Amber, who was pacing around the room with anger covering her face.

The room had just finished listening to everything that Neo had told Naruto about what had happened. Now aware of everything from Roman's betrayal to Gretchen's sacrifice. Reveals that have completely taken the remnants of Team NGRA by pure shock.

"I can't believe this." Amber mumbled in disbelief as she tightened her fists and turned to Ozpin. "Are you happy with what's happened!"

"Of course not." The man replied without any pause. "This whole situation comes to me as a surprise as well."

"That's great, you're surprised! You should feel a little more since all of this is your fault!" Amber yelled loudly, as she pointed a finger at Ozpin.

"Amber." Naruto spoke up in shock, as he finally looked up. "We can't go throwing blame on each other for this."

"Oh yes I can." Amber replied in a soft and furious voice. "Ozpin was the one who let someone like Roman fake his way into Beacon. Ozpin was the one who let a bunch of teenagers go against a crime organization that has power in two kingdoms. Yet worst of all he never told anyone why he did any of this."

"What are you talking about?" Naruto asked, which made the girl shake her head.

"I'm talking about how he and even your Father have been keeping a big secret from not only you, but the entire world!"

Looking up to his father for answers, Naruto was completely confused. "What is she talking about Dad?"

The General merely gazed to the side and released a sigh of frustration, while Ozpin cleared his throat.

"Now isn't the time for that conversation. We have other things to talk about." Ozpin clarified, but his response didn't set well with Amber.

"You see that Naruto? That's what I'm talking about! Go ahead ask him about his past lives or maybe Salem, hell maybe he would even talk about the relics or how I'm one of the four maidens."

His mind going into overload with information, Naruto stood to his feet and locked eyes with Amber. "What are you talking about?"

"The truth!" Amber yelled as she began to pace from side to side. "The truth that the Grimm are controlled by a woman called Salem. The truth that Ozpin has been grooming our team and any student that goes through his academy to fight his shadow war against her. I mean even your own Father and other headmasters are in on this secret."

"Are you serious?" Naruto asked before turning his focus back to James. "Is this true?"

"Yes."

"But I don't understand, why the secrets?"

James sighed and folded his arms. "Ozpin decided years ago it was best to keep certain knowledge out of the public eye. Dealing with Salem and the Grimm is difficult enough. However, if the world learned about her along with the relics and maidens. Well then it would be complete chaos."

Naruto balled his fists. "And what about me? Would you ever tell me?"

"Yes, when I felt you were ready for the secrets I knew, but I always planned to have you grow with a normal life and make your own choices. I never wanted to thrust you into the life I live."

Relaxing his hands and body, Naruto knew his father's words were genuine. "I see."

Ozpin placing his hands together watched the father and son before leaning back in his chair. "Well I'm glad you're able to handle this with such a mature mindset. However, with Gretchen's untimely passing and Neo still in the sights of Lil Miss Malachite's gang. We must discuss what we need to do moving forward."

"Untimely passing?" Amber repeated with her anger finally reaching its peak. "You mean murder! She was shot like a fucking dog and left in the street and you're just brushing it to the side like some accident."

"Amber I know you're upset, but-. . ."

"No I'm going to stop you there Ozpin. Me and Gretchen may have not been close, but she deserved better than what she got. Her death is on your shoulders and is something you and every single one of your recantations is going to live with." Amber declared loudly, while she began to walk towards the exit. "I never wanted anything to do with any of this, but I'm going to finally do what I should have done from the start."

"And what would that be?"

Stopping at the exit and opening the door, Amber took one look at Ozpin. "Leave and go somewhere far away from you and your little war, but not before I tell Gretchen's brother why his sister is dead." The Fall Maiden revealed before looking to Naruto. "And I suggest you think about doing the same thing Naruto."

Saying that and nothing more, Amber slammed the door and left the office. Leaving Naruto, James and Ozpin alone with a piercing silence. One that James was quick to fill.

"Should we just let her walk out like that? She is the Fall Maiden."

"I'll have Qrow keep tabs on her to ensure she stays safe, but Amber is free to live her life as she sees fit." Ozpin explained as he took a rather long winded sigh. "But now it would seem your team is now down to its last member. So I will pose this question to you Naruto. Knowing now that the Grimm are controlled by someone and there is much more going on behind the shadows. What will you do?"

Naruto didn't respond immediately, instead he stood in silence and pondered over everything that had happened. His mind danced around his team which had completely crumbled apart, while Neo's life was still in danger. Yet those thoughts were clouded by the revelation of Salem and whatever the relics and maidens were. Threats that extended to even more people like his friends and family back home in Atlas and of course Winter. Something which made Naruto grit his teeth and tighten his fists, as he didn't want to lose anyone else like he lost Gretchen.

"I don't know what the relics and maidens are and that information can wait, but I do know what the Grimm are. So the idea of someone actually controlling those monsters makes me sick to my stomach, especially with how many people I care about are in danger because of her." Naruto began in a low and calculated tone, while James and Ozpin kept their attention on the blond. "Yet this revelation does not change the fact that I want to save and protect everyone that I can. However, what has changed is that my team has been completely dismantled and I am all that is left. Yet this isn't all that has changed, as I'm not exactly the same person I was before I came to Beacon."

James folded his arms. "What do you mean?"

"Remember when I told you that I wanted to come to this academy to find out who I am?"

"Of course."

Naruto smiled. "Well I'm still sorting out who I am as someone besides the son of General Ironwood. However, I've come to learn that I love Winter with everything I have and she loves me. I also want to protect Neo and watch her live a happy life. So knowing there is someone out there threatening what I care for, I want nothing more than to dedicate myself to stopping Salem."

"So you would-. . ."

"But don't get me confused." Naruto cut in with an aura of confidence that caught both headmasters by surprise. "I'll be fighting back in my own way, which starts by returning back home to Atlas. From there I will work my body and mind to the ground so I can create the tools and machines for the fight against Salem to be won. After all, me and Dr. Polendina were already working on the first step on the next generation of huntsmen. So I'll continue that work and push it even further beyond, but that's not all I will do. Since Neo is still a target within this kingdom and has no one. So I'll adopt her and take her back to Atlas with me where she will be safe. Finally I want both of you to promise me that you will never involve anyone I care about in your war against Salem again. I will shoulder everything from this day forward so they won't have to."

"That's quite the large burden to carry." Ozpin noted.

"It might be, but it's for the people I love. So I'll do it without a second thought."

James nodded and smiled at his son. "And you have my full support and blessing."

Naruto nodded his head, while his eyes eventually made their way to Ozpin with unmoving determination. "But now my intentions are made clear, go ahead and tell me everything you know about Salem, the relics and maidens."

(With Winter)

Seated in a small room, Winter softly ran her fingers through Neo's hair. Thinking the small girl who was cradled in her lap had experienced more than anyone should ever go through. Yet at least for the moment she was safe, as she was back in Beacon with the only other person within the room being Qrow. Who was silently guarding the door to the room. However, as the door to the room slightly opened, Winter and Qrow both jerked their heads to find Naruto and James making their way into the room.

"Ozpin wants to see you. I'll take it from here." James explained softly, as he and Qrow quickly swapped places.

Naruto on the other hand merely walked over to Neo and Winter, while softly lowering himself down to where he was eye level with Neo.

"How did things go with Ozpin?"

Hearing Winter, Naruto kept his eyes on Neo and gently placed his hands on the sleeping girl's shoulder. "I'm coming back home."

A hint of surprise coming across her face, Winter felt Neo begin to stir in her arms. "But what about your team or Neo?"

"My team is no more, Amber left Beacon, Roman is a wanted man now for his ties to Lil Miss Malachite and Gretchen-. . . Well you know about her."

"And Neo? We can't just leave her here, she is still in danger."

"I know, which is why I've decided I'm going to adopt Neo and take her back home with us."

Winter lifted her brow and gave the boy she loved a skeptical look. "Naruto you're seventeen, do you really think you can raise a seven year old by yourself? I mean seriously?"

Naruto softly shook his head. "I'm smarter than I look, I realize there are things I'm not ready for in life, but I know without a single doubt I can give Neo a safe and happy life back in Atlas. Besides we both know I wouldn't be doing this alone."

Knowing what Naruto meant, Winter merely nodded and smiled at the sleeping child. "We would have our work cut out for us you know."

"It's just like you said before. There isn't a better duo than me and you. We can make this work."

"We have our work cut out for us with a lot to figure out, but you're right. Or more so it was that I was right. Regardless we will make sure no one ever hurts Neo again."

Naruto nodded with a small smile as he slowly reached his hand up to Winter's own. "Together."

"Like always." Winter replied back softly, as she reached out and grabbed Naruto's hand. "And that will never change."

(Chapter end)

Well here is the next chapter, which took forever might I add, but I work an insane amount of hours. So free time is hard to come by. Regardless there is one more planned chapter for this Volume 0, which is just a transition chapter from Naruto at 17 up till he is 25 and moving into his life in Volume 1. I know people say this volume 0 has been long and yeah trust me I know, I've been writing it xD. However, it could have been much longer, but I tried to only put in what was needed to make the story work while moving into the final pieces to explain what Naruto's life is like and why he ends where he ends up in the start of volume 1. Anyways I hope you enjoyed reading and I hope to see you again soon!
