Tally held her hands out in front of her wondering how this blood had gotten there, it wasn't till she looked up to see Sarah standing in front of her with a pained expression on her face that she looked back down and realized the bloody dagger in her hands.
The blossoming red patch bleeding through her blue uniform, "Tally, why?"
Dropping the knife as if it burned her, Tally gasped and took a step towards her, "I didn't mean to...Sarah, I'll get help."
"Haven't you helped enough? Isn't this what you wanted? You break my heart."
Tally wanted so badly to wipe away her tears but the blood on her hands just made it all so pointless.
"Sarah, please!"
Tally awoke to Sarah's name on her lips and tears on her cheeks, she was alone still in Sarah's bed. Catching her breath she quickly wiped the tears away and sat up, looking at the clock on the nightstand she realized it was well past noon. Taking a minute to collect herself she looked around the room, admiring all the little things that nobody else got to see.
She spotted her clothes neatly folded on the chair in the corner and sighed as she forced herself up and out of bed. She didn't want to anger Sarah too much and she was sure Raelle and Abigail were wondering where she was.
Quickly dressing she turned and made the bed before she took one last look at the room and headed out the door. Even though she was really hungry she just couldn't bring herself just yet to see anyone. That nightmare she had was troubling, she thought she was done with nightmares for now.
She made her way to the furthest reaches of Fort Salem and sat herself down under a tree. Taking in a shaky breath she finally let herself cry, this guilt was weighing her down and despite last night she couldn't make it stop. All because of her search for the truth and her need to be noble. And so Tally just let herself cry for all of it, for her sins and for Sarah's.
An hour later that's where Sarah found her, arms wrapped around her knees and her face buried in her arms.
"Here you are!"
Tally's tear stained face met her gaze and all Tally saw was fear and relief which made her want to cry even more but she quickly wiped at her wet cheeks. She noticed that the older woman had abandoned her army jacket for a long black pea coat, a satchel thrown across her chest, and her braid hung loose over her shoulder, which reminded her of a romance novel. Her biddies standing not too far away but giving them their privacy.
Sarah came and sat beside her, "Would you like to tell me why you're all the way out here and not in training with your unit?"
Tally sniffled and shyly looked at her, "I'm sorry, I fell back to sleep after you left and well I had a nightmare."
Sarah only nodded her head listening intently, letting her take her time to find the rest of her words to say.
"I dreamt that I killed you," she held her hands up in front of her as if haunted by the sight of blood on them, "My hands were stained with your blood, you said I broke your heart. I know it's just the guilt I feel for all the pain I've caused you and maybe I deserve this, but I…"
Sarah turned and held her face in her hands, "Don't you dare blame yourself for any of this, you only did what I told you to, to never stop searching for the truth. Even with how things turned out, it led us to each other. And I'm not dead yet, we'll find a way. Although my ultimate goal was to fight for witchkind and our future, I now have you to fight for, I will not give up on you."
Tally choked out a sob into her coat and wrapped her arms around neck, "I'm sorry."
Sarah let her say whatever she needed to and let her cry for however long she needed to, to get it out of her system. At some point Tally had crawled into her lap, Sarah's leg bent behind her to support her back. The sweet silence was interrupted by a growl from Tally's stomach and she looked up blushing, "Oh, yeah, I may have forgotten to eat today."
"I'm surprised you haven't passed out from hunger, especially with all those calories you burned earlier this morning," Sarah only winked at her and reached for her satchel.
Tally blushed her hands coming up to cover her eyes in embarrassment, "I don't think I'll ever get used to this side of you."
Sarah pulled out a small cloth full of fruit, cheese, and bread and handed it to Tally, "As our connection grows stronger I could feel your hunger as well as your panic so I hurried back as fast as I could. Here eat. I don't want my new bride to pass out from hunger."
"And I don't think I'll ever get used to that either."
Tally tried to scramble out of her lap but was stopped by the arms holding her in place, "No need to be shy, darling, you can eat in front of me. I rather like watching."
Tally laughed, "Yes, but I might choke on my food because of how distracting you are."
Sarah relented and let her come to sit beside her and smiled as Tally dug into all the goodies she had grabbed her.
"Hopefully, it's all to your liking? I wasn't sure what you liked but they," she pointed to her biddies, "helped me pick that out."
"It's all perfect, I'll literally eat anything."
Sarah smirked and raised an eyebrow, "Oh?"
Tally choked on taking a bite of a strawberry as her cheeks heated at the look she was receiving, "Oh my goddess, I really need a filter around you. Who knew you had a sense of humor and a dirty mind."
"I think you bring it out in me, dear."
They continued in comfortable silence until Tally had eaten everything and sighed in contentment.
Sarah reached into her satchel and pulled out a small box, "This is the reason I went into town today," she opened the box to two simple rose gold rings, "Call me old fashioned but I couldn't have a bride with no ring."
Pulling the ring from the box she showed her an engraving on the inside of the ring.
We are connected.
And Tally's eyes filled with happy tears and the biggest smile spread across her face as Sarah kissed the ring and slid it on her finger. Then Tally took the other ring and placed it on Sarah's finger, kissing it after.
Sarah tilted her chin up and pressed a kiss to her lips and then hummed, "You taste like strawberries."
Tally would never get tired of kissing her and she didn't want this moment to stop but she knew that they were going to have to tell everybody about the very unexpected development in their relationship. And on top of that find a way for Sarah to live without the need for her biddies.
Sarah reached her hand up to hold her face in her hands and Tally could feel her ring against her cheek and she smiled into their kiss. That's when Tally felt it, all of Sarah's love for her and she cried into the kiss.
"I feel you, all of you. Your love. My love."
Sarah smiled, "And I you."
The biddies only smiled as they saw how happy for once Sarah was and were grateful for Tally Craven to finally accept her for all that she was.
