Sarah had felt a pain so unlike any she had ever felt, or so it seemed. Perhaps it only hurt more because the pained look in Tally's face cut through her like a knife. If she could've heard her over the storm she's sure she would've heard her crying out for her.

Where her body was hurting before there was now only coldness, a coldness that seemed like it could never melt away. But there was still that pain in her heart that ached for Tally. Perhaps she had lost so much blood and that's why she felt so cold. Had the witchplague consumed her? Was she able to keep them all safe? Had she done her duty? Was it enough? Could she rest now? Was her Tally safe?

My Tally.

"Do you wish to live, Sarah Alder?"

Sarah couldn't see anything, just the darkness that surrounded her deep inside this storm of hers, "Who's there?"

"That which your sorrow created. So do you wish to live?"

Sarah wanted to reach out, to grasp something but she couldn't move her body, like it wasn't her own anymore, "Yes, yes, I want to live. Tally, I want to see Tally again."

"You want to live, yet you have suffered so very much. They've taken so much from you and you give and you give and it's never enough for them. You deserve peace. So why not just stay and you can sleep. No more wars. No more suffering," the voice stated in such a welcoming and sad voice that to Sarah's ears it felt like someone she had known once upon a time.

Sarah cried out into the void, "That may be true, but I have someone I want to live for. Someone I want to keep fighting for. For Tally Craven. I can't die yet. She makes me happy. She makes all the suffering and the wars worth it."

"If that's what you believe you may live, Sarah Alder, but I will erase the pain from your memories. You can live without the pain."

She growled out between clenched teeth, "No, I refuse. I wouldn't be me if you erased my memories. You'd erase her."

"If Tally Craven can remind you of who you are, you may have your memories back. But for now, I will erase all of your suffering."

Before Sarah could protest any further a pain lanced through her body and she screamed as 300+ years worth of memories began to fade away.

Her family. Her friends. Every biddy. Every soldier. Tally.

Tally fighting her. Tally hurting her. Tally grieving for her. Tally loving her. Tally smiling at her.

Please don't take her from me.

One morning after making love, Sarah looking up at Tally who threaded their fingers together and kissed the back of her. Brown eyes looking down at her with so much tenderness and love, it made her heart beat again.

Not this one, please don't take this one from me.

How can I forget? Tally who gave me my heart.

Tally who loved me.

Tally who….

But it all faded away and Sarah was emptiness. Her wounds healed, the witchplague destroyed. Her storm leaving her in the Cession with no memories, no name, nothing. Until Judy and her husband found her soaking wet and silent, shivering in the setting sun.

Right away they knew who she was and took her in and Judy helped bathe her and dressed her in new clothes. And when her stomach growled, they tried to feed her, which they had been certain they heard she never ate. And when she did try eating she threw it up the first few times.

PB&J and chicken noodle soup seemed to settle calmly in her stomach. When Judy told her her name she turned her head and looked at her in curiosity.

"If I am Sarah Alder, who is Tally?"

Judy looked at her sympathetically, "I do not know, dear. But she must be very special if you remember her name and not your own."

"What happened to me? Why have I lost my memories?"

Judy patted her on the shoulder, "I'm not sure but knowing all you have gone through, perhaps it's a blessing in disguise. All that fighting, all that grief."

Sarah placed a hand over her heart, "You may say that but the name, Tally, makes me happy right here. It's warm and I don't know what this feeling is but I like it. So it couldn't have all been bad."

"No, I suppose not. Well, if this Tally is important enough she'll turn up eventually. Once you get your bearings you can decide on your own if you'd like to return to Fort Salem or stay here. To me it sounds like you have a second chance, you can be whoever you want to be."

Sarah looked up at her confused, "Whoever I want to be?"

Judy smiled, "Perhaps if this Tally shows up, she can remind you of who you want to be."

Sarah was left alone at the table with her thoughts and her partially eaten sandwich, the palms of her hands itched as she fidgeted with the ring on her finger, "Who I want to be?"

And when Tally appeared a few days later, unconscious and lying in Sarah's bed, all fiery hair and soft shapes. When Sarah heard of her appearing it set her heart beating like she's just ran a marathon. When she watched Tally sleep, she felt like home. Yet she couldn't remember anything about her. It made her sad.

But when she woke and those chocolate colored eyes looked at her with so much love it made her heart ache.

Craven.

Something to remember. And when she saw their matching rings she was happy inside and a little sad too. So when she offered the crying girl her comfort and she fit in her arms so well it felt like home. When she had been feeling lost, this girl with hair on fire made her feel at home. And so she fell asleep feeling a little not so empty for the first time since she came to be there.

Tally Craven who gave her something to hold on to.
