After a pretty low key weekend where Tori basically only thought about Friday night with Jade, she's back at school. It seems like a ghost town inside of Hollywood Arts because of how early in the morning it is. Trina had to be at school early for some rehearsal she needed to be present for before class started and since Tori still didn't have her driver's licence yet she had to come along with Trina. Not that she minded being at school early on some days. It gave her the extra time to think.
While walking towards her locker from the side door she typically enters through, Tori tries not to let her heart melt at the thought of Jade performing a private concert for her. Sure it was only one song and it was meant to be in front of her, André and Cat but neither Cat or André was there. It was only her and Jade and it was obvious that Jade had put a lot of effort into the whole setup up. Which only made the whole performance feel even more special and romantic to Tori.
After pulling out the unneeded books from her bag and grabbing the ones she did need, Tori gets lost in a daydream about what could have happened between her and Jade on Friday night if they were characters in a movie.
Jade would walk up to her after she was done singing and cup her face before pulling her in to kiss her passionately. When they pulled apart from the kiss, Jade would tell her that she had feelings for her too and all would feel right in the world.
Tori doesn't have much time to daydream about anything else that could have happened because she hears a familiar voice getting louder and louder. She can't see anyone from where she is right now but she'd recognize Jade's voice from anywhere.
"I didn't ask you to meet me here so I could yell at you about it," Tori hears Jade say before watching her appear from around the corner. She watches as Jade heads straight for her locker.
Tori wonders who Jade is talking to but a few seconds later Tori sees Beck follow closely behind her and she doesn't have to wonder anymore. "Then why did you ask me to meet you here this early?" Beck asks while leaning on the row of lockers to Jade's left.
Tori watches as Jade opens up her locker and puts some things into it. It's too hard for Tori to tell what they are because when she saw Beck turn the corner after Jade she hid so they wouldn't see her standing there.
Jade adjusts the placement of her shoulder bag once her required items for the day have been placed inside it. "I asked you to meet me so I could tell you that if you wanted to go out with her, you should do it."
Beck's eyebrows furrow and he scratches his forehead. His voice also gives away to his confusion. "What do you mean I should go out with her?"
Jade doesn't know how Beck is going to feel about her saying what she wants to say but she needs to say it. Jade shrugs nonchalantly to make it seem like she doesn't care about what she's about to tell him. "I mean that if you want to see other people then you're more than welcome to do as much."
Beck doesn't say anything for a while and it makes Tori wonder what's going on inside of his mind. Jade continues to speak when Beck doesn't say anything. "I'm not saying that you need my permission to date someone else or anything because we broke up but I want you to know I'd be okay if you asked someone else out or you went on a date."
That seems to wake Beck up or end his speechlessness because this time he replies to Jade. "I don't want anyone else but you." Beck doesn't want to come on too strong but his feelings for Jade haven't changed regardless of what's happened between them lately.
Jade wants to sigh because this conversation isn't going how she thought it was going to go. Although, Jade can't say that she wasn't expecting something like this to happen. Closing her locker Jade turns to Beck. Her back is facing Tori when she talks to him. "I know that you feel like that right now but you can't wait for me."
It's an awkward angle but Tori can see Beck reach for Jade. Tori notices that Jade doesn't push him away and it makes her kind of sad. She knows she shouldn't be but that's the feeling looming over her at that moment. With Beck's hand holding onto Jade's hand, he looks into her eyes. "Why can't I?" He asks softly.
Jade looks back into his eyes. "I don't want you to wait for me because I don't know how long this break up will last. It could be weeks or months or longer and I don't want you to be waiting for something that might not happen. I've been doing a lot of thinking and I think that for now we should move forward in our relationship as friends."
"I don't want to be just your friend," Beck tells her almost immediately after Jade is finished speaking. "I love you." It's clear in the way that Beck looks at her that he loves her. It's the way he's pretty much always looked at her. However, Beck feels like it's not enough anymore. It makes him sadder than he realized he'd be. Beck knew there was a possibility of this day coming but he never imagined it would be so soon.
Jade smiles sadly. She knows that Beck loves her. They wouldn't have been in a relationship for so long if they didn't love each other. "I love you too but clearly our foundation is broken. I hate to admit it but you were right when you said we fight too much. I don't want us talking about things to turn into yelling and screaming at each other because we're frustrated over a miscommunication. We fell in love while we got to know each other as friends. We need to rebuild that connection before I can even think about us getting back together."
Tori is about to leave and go somewhere else so that Beck and Jade can talk to each other in private when something Beck says catches her attention and keeps her rooted in her place. "Is this about Tori?" He asks. It doesn't sound like anything bad but the mere mention of her name in their conversation is weird enough to make her want to hear what Jade has to say.
Tori can't see it but Jade rolls her eyes at Beck. Jade crosses her arms over her chest and she looks annoyed. "Can you not do this again? I think the first time was more than enough."
"What does that mean?" Tori asks herself quietly. The question makes Tori wonder if Jade and Beck discussed her on another occasion or something. She knows it's not really any of her business because if she weren't listening she wouldn't even know that they were or had been talking about her.
Beck shakes his head and backtracks quickly. "No, I'm..." he cuts himself off and tries again. "I'm not doing that again. I'm just asking." Beck runs his hand through his hair, "I promise" he adds as an afterthought when he's not sure that Jade will believe him.
Jade shakes her head and slowly uncrosses her arms. Having this conversation about Tori is getting old in her opinion and continuously talking about it only irritates her. "This has nothing to do with Tori. It's never had anything to do with Tori. I don't know what it is about her that makes you like this but I really wish it would stop."
"I'm not acting any kind of way because of Tori." Jade glares at him and it makes Beck rethink his approach because the glare tells him Jade isn't buying it one bit. Beck takes a moment to himself and then he's speaking again. "Okay, maybe I do but that's only because you guys got so close so fast. I was used to it being just us when we weren't at school. I was used to you being wherever I was and suddenly you were hanging out with Tori and everyone else without me and it made me feel left out. More than I was willing to admit because that was a new feeling for me. Everything changed when you and Tori started to get along better and for once I was actually scared that you enjoyed spending your time with someone who wasn't me more. I felt like second best to the new friendship you had with Tori and it drove me crazy."
"Why didn't you come and talk to me about this sooner?" Jade asks gently. "I want you to feel like you can talk to me about anything without being scared. I want you to feel like I'll be there for you regardless of the way I feel. I want us to be open and honest about our feelings. Always. We can't find solutions to the problems we have if the other doesn't know about the problem. The next time you have a problem, tell me about it so I can fix it."
Jade hates that she and Beck are even having this conversation. She thought that Beck was in one of his moods and it turns out he was acting that way because he felt like she was replacing him. She thinks it's crazy. Why would she ever want to replace him? He's been there for her on so many occasions when she didn't have anyone else. He could never lose the place he holds in her life and it sort of breaks her heart that he felt that way.
It's a hard conversation for Beck because usually he's on the other end of these talks and now that the shoe is on the other foot, he knows how Jade must have felt when she'd been insecure in their relationship. He feels more sympathetic towards Jade for actually being able to deal with the feeling for as long as she has. Beck knows that Jade didn't always express her feelings of insecurity properly but neither did he.
Beck rolls up the sleeves of his jacket for something to do while he finds the words to express to Jade what was going through his head at that particular time. "I didn't come to talk to you about it because I wasn't ready to admit to myself or to you that I was jealous. I think I might have known somewhere deep down that I was jealous but I couldn't put my pride aside at that moment and not opening up to you was a mistake on my part. I trust you, I do but I'm not used to being completely transparent with someone about everything I'm feeling or going through. I'll do better to include you so we can hopefully avoid more fights like this in the future."
Jade takes a deep breath to try and stop the tears she knows are at bay but with the words coming out of her mouth she can't hold the tears back and they fall down her cheeks. "You're so important to me Beck. You always have and will be. If I'd known that you were feeling insecure about your role in my life I would have done things differently. I would have reassured you instead of getting mad at you. I'm sorry that you felt like you were becoming a second choice to me. While it was unknown to me and unintentional I'm sorry that my actions seemed to prove that I didn't care the way that I do."
A tear slips from his eye and Beck lets it fall down his cheek freely. "I'm sorry for the fight we had the day we broke up. I was angry and I said some pretty harsh things to you that you didn't deserve. I shouldn't have talked to you like that. It doesn't matter if I was angry or not. I should have just come to you with the way I was feeling instead of snapping at you. My biggest fear is losing you but I've never felt like I might lose you until you started to have other connections that seemed more important to you than me. I didn't want to lose you but in the end I guess that's exactly what happened."
Jade stares into Beck's eyes, "you didn't lose me." Jade grabs Beck's hand and gives it a squeeze. "I'm standing right here" she adds while using her free hand to wipe at some of the tears on her face.
It occurs to Jade that maybe that won't go well with Beck because he feels like she's been slowly slipping away from him for what seems like a while now. It's not true but she doesn't have very much practice when it comes to reassuring Beck because more often than not, when one of them needs reassurance it's her. Beck is typically on the giving end and she's on the receiving end. Now, it's reversed and she hopes he's doing this right.
Beck shakes his head like he wants to argue but ultimately agrees with Jade. "That's true. You are right here but you're not my girlfriend anymore."
Jade's next words are spilling out from her lips before she even has the time to consider them fully. "I might not be your girlfriend anymore but I promise you regardless of whether or not we're in a relationship, you'll always be one of my closest friends. I will always be by your side and nothing could change that. We share a connection that's unlike anything else. We've shared so many memories and milestones with each other, nobody could replace you in my life."
Jade's words are honest and real and after taking one look into her eyes Beck knows she's telling the truth. She means what she says about her feelings and it fills him with an overwhelming sense of relief. Jade pulls Beck into a tight hug and he hugs her back immediately. Jade wraps her arms around Beck's neck and whispers "I forgive you. I hope you forgive me too" into his shoulder.
Beck hears her perfectly even though it's a little bit muffled. Tori doesn't hear what Jade says to Beck but Tori does see how Beck's face breaks out into a small smile at whatever it was that Jade said to him. "I do. Thank you," he says sincerely while they're still holding each other.
When Beck and Jade pull back from each other, Jade is smiling at him too. "So does this mean we're good?" Beck asks curiously. He hides it well but Jade can hear the nerves in his voice. Not many people know each other as well as she and Beck do. After all this time Jade feels comfort in the fact that she still knows him as well as he knows her. She cherishes that and she knows that it'll stay like that because of the bond that they share with each other.
"We will be," Jade replies confidently so Beck won't worry about the state of their relationship anymore. Jade can feel it in the air now that the tense has been released. Everything feels light and it feels so much better to be on good terms with each other again after the fighting they went through. They should have fixed it earlier but she's glad that it's been resolved now.
Not long after the conversation between Beck and Jade ends they start to head towards where Tori is hiding. Tori starts to panic and hastily, she tries to get as far away from where she is as possible. She doesn't want Jade or Beck to see her and figure out that she'd eavesdropped and heard their whole conversation.
Tori doesn't know what to think of Beck and Jade's conversation. She knows that she shouldn't have listened in on Jade and Beck's conversation in the first place but she did. On top of feeling guilty about it, Tori can't decide if she's happy about the fact that Jade and Beck are getting along again.
She knows it's an awful thing to think but she can't help but wish that they were still fighting a little so that she'd have more of a chance to win Jade's heart. With Beck and Jade back on good terms it scares her that Jade and Beck can strengthen their foundation and get back together.
By the time that lunch rolls around the only two members of the gang at their usual lunch table are Cat and Robbie. It's quiet between the two of them for the first few minutes but it's not an uncomfortable silence. Rex is sick so he isn't with Robbie today and Robbie tries not to think about it.
Robbie is eating fries and Cat is eating her burger. "Do you think André is attractive?" Robbie asks randomly. Cat is taken aback by the question. She briefly wonders if Robbie knows about what's going on between Andre and her but then she remembers that Robbie wasn't at Tori's house when she and Andre had the conversation they had.
"Why are you asking me that?" Cat asks while expertly dodging Robbie's question. She hopes that Robbie won't notice the fact that she's changed the subject on him without giving him an actual answer to his question. Luck must be on her side today because he takes the bait she offered him.
Robbie shrugs at Cat. "I don't know. I was just wondering," and like that the conversation about Andre is over as soon as it came. "Have you noticed how weird Beck and Jade have been around each other lately? Also, Tori and Jade have been acting differently around each other too."
Cat is careful with her wording so that she doesn't give too much of her best friends personally like away. "She and Beck are going through some stuff. It's nothing to worry about. I'm sure that'll figure it out."
Robbie nods, "but what about the weird friendly relationship Jade has with Tori? She seems less grumpy when Tori is around and she doesn't make fun of her in a mean way anymore. If anything, it seems like Jade is teasing her."
Cat doesn't have any idea how to respond to that. She knows Jade likes Tori as more than just a friend, which she obviously wouldn't tell Robbie. Come to think of it, Cat doesn't know if Jade has even accepted her more than platonic feelings for Tori yet. It's clear to Cat that whatever is going on between Jade and Tori is something that's only growing. Where it might lead, she has no idea but she can see that there's something between the two girls.
"Uh…" Cat mumbles. She decides to do what she does best and play dumb so she doesn't accidentally end up saying more than she should. "I haven't noticed anything different between them. I've noticed that Jade seems less unhappy but she's been like that when it's just the two of us so I don't think it has anything to do with Tori."
The conversation about their friends dies suddenly when Robbie sees Jade and Beck approaching the table. Jade is telling Beck a story while they head towards the table and when Jade is nearing the end of her story, Beck laughs loudly.
Cat eats some of her lunch while watching Jade and Beck. Cat looks away from the two and then turns to Robbie after swallowing her food. "I told you they would figure it out. They always do."
Robbie looks over at Beck and Jade and then back over at Cat. "Beck and Jade are back to normal but Jade and Tori are still acting out of the ordinary. Something is going on with them but I'm not sure what it is yet."
Beck and Jade sit at the table and instantly pull the other two straight into a conversation about what they learned in Sikowitz's class.
