Chapter One: The League of Villains
Chapter Summary: On a day out with the students, Shouta Aizawa comes face to face with the League of Villains.
Life was so much different now. The heroes and police were on high alert ever since Kamino Ward. Thanks to a group of his problem children, Katsuki Bakugou was able to get away from the League of Villains. Though, it did not end with the capture of the mastermind behind the organization. The villain, All for One, had managed to slip into the warp gate just seconds after Bakugou had been taken off of the battlefield.
Left to pick up the pieces, U.A. had implemented the dorm system in order to protect their students. They had all been successful in their feat to get their Provisional Hero Licenses.
Despite knowing that his students could defend themselves legally, there was still a feeling in the pit of his gut. This would be far from over. What they had witnessed at Kamino Ward had proved just how dangerous the League of Villains truly were. Despite their low numbers, they would not be easy to capture. Even more dangerous with their leader. He had hidden in the shadows.
It felt like the events of Kamino Ward were supposed to play out differently, but they were all aware that it was a possibility that their shadow leader would get away.
And he had.
Shouta just never expected that the League of Villains would show back up like this.
Shouta had been addressing his students, despite being on high alert and being in broad daylight, he never had expected this. The hairs on the back of his neck had started to stand, the chill that went shooting down his back just like at the USJ. When they showed up for the first time.
The excessive need to protect his pack came over him. Through all the trauma and living together in the dorm, those experiences had turned them into a pack. Shouta was almost by default the leader of them. Being the Omega who looked after them and cared for them in the absence of their parents with them being in the dorms. All it took was a growl to get his students to recoil. His instincts were screaming at him. Screaming to guard all of them.
It felt like it was all a repeat. He had turned, eyes wide. Almost as if it was going in slow motion as he saw the purple mist that was Kurogiri's warp gate. "Get back!" He shouted. They had just gotten their licenses. This was supposed to be a day to celebrate and relax for them getting it. They deserved one day to just be kids for once. He had been proud of his students. They had taken everything that was ever thrown at them and achieved their goal they had set back at the Training Camp.
"Aizawa-sensei!" Bakugou shouted. The Omega teenager's pheromones were flaring. Protective. Angry. It put more fuel to the fire that the Omega was feeling. His pack needed him. These were the same people who kidnapped Bakugou once. Shouta was not about to let them go after his students again.
Shouta was already activating Erasure, reaching for his capture weapon when he felt the incoming heat. He jumped forward just in time to get out of the way of the blue flames. He gritted his teeth, tearing his eyes away from the warp gate and towards the Flame Villain.
Shouta felt his stomach drop as he caught sight of Dabi. The Alpha's arm wrapped around Todoroki's neck. How his student was scratching at the burn scars that covered the villain's arm. It was clear to him that Todoroki couldn't breathe. "Now, now, Eraser. Don't be so hasty." Dabi drawled. Shouta's heart was pounding. Through the corner of his eye, he could see that his students hadn't moved either, but were standing ready to fight. "I don't need my quirk to kill him." He cursed internally to himself. Normally, his sense of smell was rather good, but with Dabi of all people. Dabi didn't have a strong scent that most Alpha's had. What he did have came off burnt. Considering all scent glands that someone had were on their necks and wrists and the location of his scars. It was practically a miracle to pick up anything at all off of him.
He had to buy time and get Todoroki away from Dabi. All Might had been with them but had wondered off for whatever reason. Shouta couldn't recall him saying where he was going. Todoroki was looking right at him. The fear was in his eyes, despite keeping a mask on his face. "Let go of my student." Shouta hissed.
Dabi snickered, "It doesn't happen that easily."
He cursed as he saw the additional warp gates and the other members of the League of Villains popping out of them. Blindsiding them all.
It felt like the USJ all over again. At the same time, Kamino Ward. The Training Camp. They had learned. They had trapped them within a crowded city. They couldn't go full out in a fight, but he wouldn't put it past the League to do so. They didn't care about innocent lives.
"What the hell do you want?" Shouta hissed.
Dabi shrugged. "Could be anything really." It was a split second, but Todoroki had gasped, his feet coming off of the ground. For a moment, Shouta noticed a small detail. Dabi's grip loosened. Todoroki's feet had gone back to the ground as he took in a sharp intake of air. "You know, Eraser. You're just about one of the one heroes who can call themselves a true hero."
Shouta frowned, cocking an eyebrow. Stain's ideology. What the hell was Dabi doing? Shouta didn't dare take his eyes off of him, forcing his eyes to stay open. He could not give Dabi the opportunity to use his quirk. Not when he had Todoroki. He had to make an opening. Through the corner of his eye, he had noticed that all of his students were now distracted. Either by League members or protecting screaming civilians.
To him, it was like Dabi was stalling. The other League members – with the exception of Shigaraki, who Shouta had not seen yet – were making a good feat of keeping the rest of the class away from Todoroki and Dabi. Leaving just the three of them.
He made eye contact with Todoroki. He couldn't tell him what to do. Dabi would catch on. Todoroki would just have to know. The Omega teenager was looking right back at him, the realization coming to his face. He went to speak, but it was immediately caught off by Dabi again. "I really don't want to kill him, Eraser. What are you going to do?" Dabi was taunting him now and it infuriated him.
Shouta's eyes were stinging. He needed to blink, but he couldn't. Not yet. The instability of his quirk now was really not doing him any favors at the moment. Shouta gave a very subtle nod, and Todoroki moved. Throwing his head back and hitting Dabi right in the nose. It managed to faze the Flame Villain enough that his grip loosened enough that his student could slip out of the grip. As Todoroki ducked, Shouta moved. Throwing out his capture weapon and wrapping it around Dabi and pulling him towards him.
Just like the training camp, he managed to get Dabi on his stomach, sitting on his back with his hand planted on the back of his head. It had Dabi cackling. "Should have seen that coming." Shouta hissed. He gave himself the second to blink, cracking his eyes back open. He frowned as he realized that Dabi didn't use his quirk with the given opportunity.
Something was off.
He had caught Shigaraki's scent before he ever saw him. "Always concerned for your students, Eraserhead." Shigaraki's voice filled his ears as he looked over. He turned his head just in time to see a hand moving towards him. On reflex, he activated Erasure.
"Aizawa-sensei! Duck!" Todoroki screamed.
Shouta complied, leaning down just as he felt the flames move over his back. High enough that they didn't hit him, but close enough he could feel the extreme heat. He grimaced, hearing Dabi chuckle again. Shigaraki was forced back away from him. Todoroki's flames stopped and that's when Dabi decided to use his. Shouta was forced to jump back, but he had managed to keep Dabi in his capture weapon. There was too much going on all at once. If he could get to higher ground, he could cancel out multiple quirks, but Dabi and Shigaraki were keeping him distracted enough.
What did they want from them now?
Dabi had been the one who told him they were after the students last time. This time, he had managed to take Todoroki as a hostage, but didn't actually do anything to harm them. Just kept Shouta's attention on him. Making sure he couldn't go to the aid of his other students. It was a a good plan. It was keeping him distracted too much.
They had also left just after All Might had walked off. Shouta hoped that All Might had heard the commotion. That he was heading back. He couldn't do this alone. He needed back up.
All Might, where are you?
He had Dabi and Shigaraki in his sight. Kurogiri, he wasn't sure where he was, but was probably close by to aid his allies. Todoroki remained by him. "Todoroki, keep an eye out. Kurogiri must still be nearby."
"Yes, sir." Todoroki stated. He was confident that his students could defend themselves. They were much stronger now. He didn't like that they had to, but this is where they were now. He could hear Bakugou's shouts over a lot of the commotion. The noises of the fighting. Still, they just remained in a standoff.
He frowned. What were they doing?
He wanted to look behind him, check on his other students. He could still feel the intense heat of Dabi's flames. "Todoroki…"
Todoroki peered over to him, "Sensei?"
"Your classmates." That's all he said, and Todoroki knew exactly what he wanted.
Todoroki turned his head, the air catching in his throat. "They've cut us off." Todoroki made a noise after another second, "Without being able to see my classmates… I might accidentally hit them."
Shouta gritted his teeth. He still didn't know what the League wanted from them. This was bad. Really bad. How could he be so useless? He should have seen this coming. He should have denied this. Fought against the idea. He had his reservations, but his students had looked so excited. He should have listened to his gut.
He was thinking of every possibility in his head.
Damnit, All Might. Where are you?!
Shigaraki was standing before him, much like in the USJ with his hands crossed in front of him. Not a care in the world. They were surrounded, and despite the uneven numbers against the villains, they still had a leg up on them. They also had gotten stronger. Smarter.
The biggest issue they faced was Kurogiri. He was their escape. He was also dangerous in his own right. They all were. They were out to kill his students and destroy anything that they could get their hands on. It was why their current behavior was striking him as odd. He had fought both of them before. Though, one had been Dabi's clone, but it was still him in a way. He knew to an extent what they could do.
His senses were going into overdrive. Instincts flaring as he caught the distressed, but also determined, scents of his students. They were all fighting. He could hear their shouts. Some were close, others further away. It was a paternal – or maternal – instinct was yelling louder than anything.
He had thrown his arm out, forcing Todoroki behind him. Crossing a leg in front of him with one hand wrapped around his scarf. He might not be able to get to the others at the moment, he could at least keep Todoroki safe. All he had to do was buy time. All Might was the other unspoken leader of their pack. It was so unconventional. None of them had made bonds, but they had formed almost emotionally over their time together.
He would rather die than let these villains harm his students again.
Shigaraki's head tilted at his action, a chuckle leaving him, "Oh, ain't that sweet." Shigaraki drawled. "Seems like our time here is up."
Shouta froze.
What?
None of this made sense.
What is happening? They are just leaving? What did they want?
He continued to internally ask himself questions. He could see the warp gates appearing behind Shigaraki and Dabi, but there was still no sign of Kurogiri that he could find.
"Sensei?" He could hear the uncertain tone in the younger Omega's voice. "This…"
Todoroki never could finish his sentence as Shouta felt his stomach drop as he felt the wind picking up from below them. He looked down as he heard Todoroki let out a sound of shock. Shouta moved, taking a quick glance to the closest thing he could wrap his scarf around. He reached out, grabbing Todoroki and lifting the both of them off of the gate before they actually started to sink into it.
Shouta's heart was pounding the entire time. Their goal was kidnapping. Again? Even though they were technically successful last time, it only took a couple of days before they were found again. He looked down, noticing that Shigaraki and Dabi had yet to move. He balanced on the light fixture. His arm wrapped securely around the younger Omega.
That had been too close.
Who was their actual target?
He was able to see everything now. He paused as he noticed that warp gates were behind all the League members, but none of his students. They were actually being forced bad. The same power that had been used against Pixie Bob at the training camp were forcing them to gravitate towards the middle.
Are they trying to get the entire class or keep them from Kurogiri's warp gates?
He peered around, trying to catch sight of Kurogiri, but once again, he couldn't find him. He was somewhere close by. He knew that. That was a fact.
"Oh, Eraserhead!" Shigaraki exclaimed. Shouta looked back to the young Alpha, freezing as he noticed that he had pulled the hand off of his face, a triumph smirk on his cracked lips. "You really are so cool." That statement gave him chills. The phantom pain that raced through him from the last time he had heard that. His eyes were stinging enough that he was forced to blink. No longer able to keep his eyes open.
"Sensei!" Todoroki's scream pulled his attention back as the wind picked up again. He snapped his eyes open, jumping and pulling both him and the other Omega back to the ground.
We're the targets. He thought. Unless it's just one of us, but I'm not going to allow that. I can't. I have to protect my students at all costs.
As they crashed back into the ground, Shouta grunted from the twinge in his ankle from the harsh landing. He was still lacking in information. Could he risk trying to get Todoroki away, but they seemed like the only two that a warp gate was trying to capture. That villain – Mr. Compress could do it easily. He had done it with Bakugou, but he was fighting against his other students. He was their best for capturing. Why not just use him?
Though, it was still a major issue that he couldn't find Kurogiri. If he took his eyes off of Shigaraki or Dabi, they could either seriously injure them or kill them. That was not a risk he was willing to take.
"Todoroki, your ice wall." Shouta stated.
It was their best shot. He didn't want to risk it before, and it was clear that neither did Todoroki. It was a large-scale attack, but he could control it enough to not accidentally harm anyone nearby. From what he could tell, his other students were doing a good job protecting the civilians. It gave him a somewhat clear idea that the civilians were being used as collateral to keep them from fighting to their fullest.
Unlike the training camp.
"Right!" The Omega teenager exclaimed. The second that they got an open, and when Shouta was forced to blink, Todoroki made his move. Shouta was quick to slide his goggles up, grab his eyedrops and get in a few in while he had the chance. His eyes were killing him now. Begging for a break. Todoroki had completely encircled them in ice aside from the fire that was behind them. It was just a small breather. Shouta had to move quickly to his other students. Just from that quick moment, he could see that they were fully surrounded. The League had practically corralled them like animals in a pin.
The Omega teacher hissed from the pain in his eyes. The splitting headache that was coming on. He was overdoing it. He had no choice.
Though, it hit him in that moment.
There were no other heroes coming by.
They were in a well patrolled area. Heroes should have come along by now. They weren't that far from a few hero agencies.
Shouta took the moment to survey Todoroki. Seeing the ice coating the right side of his body, which he was already combating with his left side. He frowned for a moment. None of this made sense. It hadn't been long since All Might left them. He should have been back by now. Now that he got a second, he couldn't hear many civilians either, and the roads and sidewalk had been pretty full. He looked up, his heart skipping a beat. He hadn't noticed it before. It was so soft looking. Gentle even.
But it was there.
It was like a cage.
They were trapped inside.
None of the League of Villains had a quirk that could do something like this.
Unless.
It was like he couldn't move. Suddenly being engulfed by the essence of pure evil. The surging pheromones littering the air now as the wind continued to pick up. It couldn't be.
"Shouta Aizawa, it's a pleasure to finally meet you."
There had only been a glimpse of him that day from the news coverage that Shouta had seen, but it was in fact him. The same villain that All Might was prepared to fight but managed to slip away in an instant. Critically injured Best Jeanist and many other heroes. The man that All Might admitted to causing his near death. The injury that caused his body to look frail when he wasn't using his muscles.
The shadow himself.
"All… For One." The Omega whispered, his head snapping in the direction of the voice.
Sitting directly on top of the ice wall was him.
He could smell the distress on Todoroki immediately. The Omega teacher was back to his feet in an instant, hauling Todoroki behind him as he activated Erasure.
They were cornered.
"He will only show his face if he is certain that he can get away." He remembered those words very clearly. He had done it once. He could do it again.
He couldn't see the man's face, but he could feel that he was trying to get Shouta to submit to him. His instincts were trying, but he had been through enough training to not allow that to happen. No matter how strong an Alpha was.
All for One chuckled, "You really are something special, huh? No wonder Tomura is a fan of you." He paused for a second, "And now, you've fallen right into our trap." There was nowhere to go as the warp gate opened up underneath their feet. The panic had set in as he looked to see if he could shove Todoroki out of the way. Todoroki had encased his ice too close to allow for another place to go. There was no way he could get Todoroki out of this. With his attention off of the villain, he had blinked as he then saw the masked face before his and a hand covering his face. "Sleep now."
The last thing he heard was Todoroki's terrified scream of, "Aizawa-sensei!"
X
How could he be such a fool, again? He had taken a moment to slip away and get something special for his students for passing their licensing exams, but when he had returned, he could hear the confused questions coming from civilians.
And that is when he had seen it.
It was like some sort of force field. He couldn't see through it, but every part of him knew what was happening inside. It was surrounding a restaurant that Aizawa had been planning on taking the kids too. It felt so much like the USJ again. All Might had tried everything. Running into it but coming out on the other side. Pounding his fists against it. Hitting it with a smash.
Nothing worked.
His students were in there.
Aizawa was in there.
He couldn't allow this again.
He couldn't be sure, but he was almost positive that the League of Villains were behind this. He didn't know of a quirk that could cause such a thing, but it was definitely meant to keep people inside and others out.
He had taken a moment, letting his instincts take control for a moment. He could feel all of them. The emotional bonds they had created, even if it was accidentally. They were all there.
It only urged him to go harder. Noticing that the sort of cage was cracking underneath his fists. There is only so much it can take. Well, this is good. If I can just break this, I can get to them. He refused to allow Aizawa to almost die again being forced to protect the students. Refused to let his students be scared for their lives.
The difference this time was, they had their licenses. They could legally fight back. They didn't need Aizawa's permission. They could just do it. It wasn't like Aizawa was alone in it, but Toshinori was sorely lacking in information. He had no idea who or what was in there. What was happening. All he knew was, they were in there, and he was going to get to them.
He wasn't the only hero there. They were also trying to break into it. Hawks was present, flying above it. Endeavor had also shown up. Probably having stopped by to visit Todoroki. The parents had been notified that they were going to be here, and had been invited to come have dinner with their children before they headed back to U.A.
As he punched it again, he paused as he noticed that it didn't break but it had started to evaporate underneath his fist. He pulled back, looking in shock around as the field came down and right directly in front of him were the shocked students of Class 1-A. Clearly looking like they had just been in a fight. Some of their clothes were messed up and dirty, but they all look relatively unharmed.
He could smell their distress. He could smell Aizawa's strong cherry blossom and rainfall. It was strong. Almost overpowering as All Might rushed towards his students. The protective pheromones lingered in the air. Powerful. Aizawa probably didn't notice he was emitting it in the first place. A scent that was trying to ward off people who intended to harm others.
The sight in front of him stunned him. While the students looked unharmed, his fears were confirmed by seeing Dabi's flames burning across the road and sidewalk. Blocking them off from whatever was one the other side. He could see Todoroki's ice on the other side. He supposed that Todoroki and Aizawa were on the other side. They were the only two he didn't immediately see. The students were bunched together, almost in a pile on top of the girls. It was so strange.
Though, that looked like the workings of Magne's quirk.
What the hell happened in here?
"All Might!" Midoriya screamed, scrambling to his feet. He could see that there was fear lingering in his students' eyes, but they were wearing the mixture of brave and confusion.
"Are you alright?" All Might questioned. "Where are Todoroki and Aizawa?"
Bakugou was back to his feet next, motioning towards the other side. "I caught a glimpse of them over there. They were in the middle of Icyhot's ice and that bastard's fire." Bakugou had sounded too stunned to actually sound angry. Hawks had landed down beside him, eyeing him for a second before he had taken to the skies again.
"Tell me what happened." All Might stated. Endeavor had rushed by them, shouting for his son as he started towards the blue flames. All Might put his attention back onto his students for a moment. Listening as they recounted.
It felt strange.
The League had showed up, appearing around them, but didn't actually seem to fight them. Rather they were toying with them. How almost immediately, Aizawa and Todoroki had been cut off from them. It made All Might's stomach twist. He did not like the sound of that. It had been a tactic they had somewhat used at the training camp according to the reports.
His heart was pounding against his chest. There was something off about all of this.
"All Might!" Hawks yelled. All Might turned, looking up at the Winged Omega as he came rushing down from the skies.
"Where are Aizawa-sensei and Todoroki?! Are they okay?!" The questions immediately started shooting from the students as they questioned the hero.
It was only the look on Hawks' face that told him everything he needed to know. Hawks' face wasn't giving him away, but his eyes were. He let his feet touch the ground as he held his gloved hand out. "They aren't over there." Hawks muttered. He didn't even look the students in the eye, rather staring down at his hand with a glance. "I'm so sorry, Tsukuyomi." He finally said, peering over to his protégé. Tokoyami shook his head, a denial falling from his lips.
Within Hawks' hand was the chain that Aizawa kept his wedding ring on, and both Aizawa and Todoroki's cellphones.
All that All Might could do was turn around and slam his fist into the side of a nearby wall. Not hard enough or with any of his power that it harmed the structure, but enough that he felt it against his skin.
"This can't be happening again!" Uraraka exclaimed.
"Oh God." Midoriya muttered.
"They have to be over there somewhere!" Ashido shouted, "They couldn't… they couldn't be…"
The noise that Hawks made had All Might turning to face him again, seeing that he was messing with the chain. "The clasp is broken like someone ripped it from his neck." He moved the phones, lifting them up, "Both phones are shattered. They were all sitting together in a little pile. They were placed there. Looking at where they would have been, there wouldn't have been a path that they could take. Shouto appears to have blocked the path off completely."
All Might gritted his teeth.
How could they fail, again?
Bakugou was the one who reacted the most, setting off an explosion on his palm as he let his fist slam into the wall by All Might's. Though, Bakugou's knuckles had broken open from the impact. "Young Bakugou…" All Might whispered. Not only was Aizawa, Bakugou's teacher, but also the man who stood up on his behalf multiple times. Within the Sports Festival and in the media. Aizawa had always had faith in Bakugou. Todoroki, on the other hand, was Bakugou's friend, rather he wanted to admit it or not. He had noticed it. There was something about the odd relationship. The two had been close to failing their Provisional Licensing Exams, and Aizawa had taken the two under his wing. Having the two attend extra classes with him after schooling ended for the day. Much like he did for Shinsou.
There was so much anger and hurt moving throughout his students and there was not a thing that he could do about it. Shinsou was a growling mess, clutching onto the sleeves of his shirt, trying to remain calm. Bakugou's fist was still in the hall. Midoriya looked ready to crack. They were all angry. They were hurt. Confused.
This wasn't like the training camp in a way.
If they had truly been taken, which All Might did believe was the case,
This was not good.
They were lacking in information, and there could be the chance that the two had gotten away. Though, All Might was absolutely sure that Aizawa would have immediately gone back to his students. He wouldn't leave them with nothing short of being incapacitated or dead.
He could hear Endeavor's shouts. How angry the Alpha was. Demanding to know what happened to his son. All Might's ears were ringing, his stomach twisting and dropping. He looked over, seeing the range of emotions on Midoriya's face. He couldn't imagine what his young protégé was feeling. Midoriya had witnessed Bakugou being kidnapped at the training camp. He had been one of the few who rescued him at Kamino Ward. Todoroki was his boyfriend. Not long after the Hosu Incident, their relationship had started forming. All Might use to tease him about it. Young love always intrigued him. It made him happy to know Midoriya was happy. He looked up to Aizawa. The League of Villains were constantly on them. He also knew the truth about All for One. The full truth.
They needed to find out exactly what happened in the moments leading up to Aizawa and Todoroki's disappearance. He didn't want to assume that the two had been taken, but with the facts that Hawks was talking about, he was sure that it was the case.
The mood had increasingly dropped quickly among the students.
Hawks was looking around, patting All Might on the arm. "That's a camera. It's facing towards the fight zone." All Might turned, letting his eyes follow Hawks' hand. Sure enough, there was a camera. "That could tell us what happened."
All Might nodded, forcing himself not to get sick to his stomach. He reached into his pocket, fishing out his phone. There was one person who needed to be here for this. Naomasa Tsukauchi. He was the lead Detective against the League of Villains. He needed to be here.
It was like history was repeating itself.
They had to get to the bottom of it. All the students said the second they hadn't even seen Dabi. The only person who had Bakugou, who had tried to warn Aizawa before he had been cut off from both Aizawa and Todoroki. The others said they hadn't seen him, but knew he was there just because of his flames. Especially the ones who knew that was Dabi's quirk.
There was so much about what he was told that didn't make sense to him. So many details that just weren't adding up. His instincts and gut were telling him one thing, while his logic was trying to tell him something else.
His gut was telling him: Aizawa and Todoroki were separated from the others for a reason. That the League had no intentions of harming any of the other students.
His logic: that the League of Villains didn't care if they hurt anyone. That they had came for one purpose and they were going to play it out.
They needed to figure out what exactly happened here. Once they figured that out, their next step could continue.
How could I fail them like this again?
Author's Note: I hope that you enjoyed! I got hit with a plot bunny and I'm rolling with it! I already am close to the other chapter being done since I split this one in two! Mic will be coming in the next chapter! Anyway, I hope you enjoyed! See you next time!
