Fuuka's Last Kiss
Chapter IX - Accomplices
"Unlike your opponent, myne was a young man with actual fight in him!" - Fuen (about Sai)
It had already been a day since Fuuka had returned from her mission.
It was a cloudy day in Konoha. The woman looked around to make sure there were no passersby nearby. On the other side of the path stood a grandiose, but by now visibly run-down mansion. A large building that was on the outskirts of the village.
"Nobody to see.", Fuuka stated speaking to herself.
She walked to the house and ascended a wooden staircase that squeaked loudly with each and every one of her thoroughly careful steps. The ornately crafted, scratched door opened and two dark-clad Anbu stepped in front of her. Their job seemed to be to guard the door to keep uninvited guests out. But Fuuka was not an uninvited guest, so they allowed her to enter.
From the dust-covered furniture and the cobwebs hanging from the ceiling, it was clear that no one had lived here for some time - or that's what they wanted others to think. Either way, the scenery seemed depressing to Fuuka.
The Kunoichi's eyes, which took on a turquoise color in the bright candlelight from the walls, looked up.
I hope this thing doesn't collapse on me.
One of the Anbu guards escorted her to her destination. After a not-so-short distance, they reached an inconspicuous adjoining room. The sliding door of the room was closed, but Fuuka could quite clearly make out the silhouettes of four people visible through the slightly transparent tiled wall. One of them was standing, while the other three were sitting.
"When?"
Fuuka could immediately place the deep female voice that she heard. The Anbu opened the door and stepped aside.
An older man and a lady apparently in the same age sat on a couch. In contrast to the rest of the building, this back room seemed almost clean. They eyed the Kunoichi suspiciously for a short while before turning their attention back to Fuen, who had taken a seat across them. Fuuka had no idea who these people were or what their conversation was about, but she had the feeling that her own appearance was not entirely unfamiliar to them.
The fourth in the group was Sai, but he didn't seem to have felt the need to take a seat for his part - or he shied away from presuming something he didn't think he was entitled to, based on his esteem or respect for those present or whatever. Fuuka despised him for it.
"This very evening. We will make all the necessary arrangements and go to the Hokage to consult with him about the current situation on the border."
Fuen nodded in agreement and crossed her legs. The old gentleman then continued.
"I don't think it should be a problem to convince him of our position in the near future, despite his possible reservations. He'll be rejecting it first, but if everything goes according to plan, he'll have no choice but to give in - as long as you get things fixed."
The old man's voice was weak, but at the same time determined. Despite his apparent advanced age, he exuded a certain authority. The candlelight on the table between the two parties was reflected on his glasses.
"You have nothing to worry about, Homura. My best people will take care of it, but the sooner you get him to move his people, the sooner the operation can start. We've had enough delays already - and this one will be the last, I promise."
Fuuka wasn't sure, but she had a feeling that by "delays" Fuen was also referring to her actions. She knew that she had caused plenty of attention and turmoil after people had already been searching for her, whether it was the Konoha guard who she had sucked to get to his Earth-element she already lost again or the remote village she had recently single-handedly destroyed. Had it not been for these incidents, things might have gotten faster - but Fuuka didn't care how others judged her actions.
She took what, when, how and above all who she wanted - everything else was beside the point.
The lady, who in Fuuka's eyes looked even more ancient than this mansion itself, spoke: "I don't have to remind you of what you promised us, Fuen. I hope you keep your part of the bargain when this is all over."
"I've told you several times, Koharu; I don't care about your 'Konoha'. When this is over, you can do with this village whatever you want."
Homura nodded in agreement. The old man stood up and, without another word, left the room. The lady gave Fuuka another sullen look as she passed, before following her companion outside. The guard who had accompanied Fuuka up to here followed the two and closed the door again, so that the three Ninjas were now among themselves.
Fuen sighed.
"I can't stand those two. They think they're so incredibly important, yet they're completely expendable."
"If you think they're expendable, then why are you talking to them? Who are they anyway?" asked Fuuka. She wasn't actually interested in Fuen's political games, but she seemed curious - or suspicious.
"They're the village elders of Konoha, the Hokage's personal advisors," Sai answered her.
"Terribly demanding buffers who enjoy the Hokage's trust. At least that used to be the case," Fuen corrected.
"If they are confidants of the Hokage, why are they working with us?"
"Because they are, above all, power-hungry old vultures who care more about their own well-being than that of their village - even if they constantly claim otherwise."
Fuuka leaned against the wall, but then noticed how brittle it felt and let up again.
"Aren't you afraid that those two might betray us?"
Sai looked at Fuuka for a while, concerned, then stood behind Fuen and put his hands on her exposed shoulders.
"I agree with her, Fuen. We're taking a big risk. I've known them long enough to know how dangerous they are. Even Danzō had warned me about them."
Fuuka was surprised that Sai agreed with her. She was sure that he couldn't stand her any more than she could stand him, even though she didn't care about the former.
Fuen looked at Sai, rose from the couch and walked towards him. She smiled seductively at him.
"Hehehe - it's really cute how you worry about me, my dear."
"I mean it. You can't trust them!"
"Who said I trust them?"
Fuen put her hand on his cheek.
"You're the only person I trust, you know that."
The brown-haired woman closed her eyes and gave him a kiss. Even though this one was comparatively short and superficial compared to her 'kisses', Fuuka frowned at the sight.
"Are you guys done already?"
Fuen and Sai paid no attention to the Kunoichi's complain. Fuuka's gaze settled on the young Shinobi, quite attractive by her standards as well, she had to admit.
What could he possibly see in her?
The woman's dark red lips parted from his.
"These two will not betray us. They are more than unhappy with the Hokage's decisions and are very skeptical of the close relations he has with the other Great Shinobi Villages since the war. Their influence over the Hokage is waning and rumors are circulating that he wants to get rid of them."
Fuen gave a self-righteous chuckle.
"Huhuhu - rumors I started. They'll do anything to secure their position, that's for sure."
Sai nodded his head respectfully, as if to apologize with the gesture.
"I understand."
Fuuka, who by now had her arms crossed impatiently in front of her breasts, glanced at Sai.
Sissy!
Sai returned her gaze. She avoided his eyes, though she couldn't explain why, and looked to Fuen.
"I hope you didn't call me here just for the sake of watching this scene between you two."
"How does your body handle the Kyubi's Chakra, Fuuka? It must be a remarkable feeling to carry that power within you."
Fuuka looked at her in disbelief.
She knew about this all along?
"Yes, I knew that some of the Kyubi Chakra was still in the boy's body - or at least I strongly assumed that was the case."
"Why did..."
Fuen cut in with a smile and walked towards her.
"You didn't think I had no reason to send you, of all people, on this mission, did you?"
Fuuka thoughtfully lowered her gaze to the wooden floor.
I could have guessed that this snake had something in the back of her mind.
"From the looks of it, your body didn't reject the essence of the Nine-Tailed. Very good. Because if it had, I would have had to come up with something else."
Fuuka clenched her teeth, but without opening her mouth. She was raging inside.
In her eyes, I'm just her filthy guinea pig!
Fuuka's pride was hurt. She decided to pay back her presumptuous behavior double and triple as hard at some point. But she could not overlook the fact that Fuen's approach was rational and made sense to her as well.
If her body already couldn't handle the fraction of demonic fox Chakra that had still been in Sora, she could logically have no chances in absorbing the blond-haired brat's essence - or keeping it.
Fuuka noticed that Fuen's dark purple dress was even longer than her already long legs, which protruded partially naked from the smooth fabric.
The red-haired Kunoichi swallowed her anger.
"Where do we go from here?"
The young man stood next to his thoroughly older leader. Fuen smiled.
Evening dawned, and Fuuka and Sai moved quickly. So fast that all that could be seen from the outside were shadows leaping from tree to tree, branch to branch. They were on their way to the border of the Land of Fire. Their destination was the village Taki - the Village Hidden by a Waterfall.
The activities of Root were not limited to Konoha and the Land of Fire - even in Danzō's times. Fuen had agents almost everywhere reporting to her on what was happening, whether it was in Iwa, Getsu, Yuki, or the Land of Waves. Fuen paid well, and the spies who worked for her usually delivered results, just like Hisame.
Hisame was a Missing-Nin from Ame who had come into contact with Naruto and his friends in the past, when they still held the rank of Genin and paid a visit to the village of Taki as part of a mission - and thwarted the plans of her and her companions.
Now the Kunoichi had to make sure that the charismatic leader of the village - Shibuki - would take her side. For this she was supported by a couple of Root Anbus, whose task were to provide her access to the young man.
To support her intentions, Fuen provided her with one of her poisons in case Shibuki had been resentful and refused to properly appreciate Hisame's persuasive efforts or her endearing advances. The Kunoichi was to 'convince' him to invade the Land of Fire with his Ninjas, so that the Hokage would be forced to withdraw Shinobi from Konoha - an indispensable intermediate step that seemed necessary despite the Shinobi provided by the two elders involved in Fuen's conspiracy against the Hokage, and her Anbu units, for they were nevertheless outnumbered by the Konoha forces.
But Hisame had not reported back for several days now, and until the situation in Taki was resolved, Fuen's operation could not begin and the coup could not succeed.
Fuuka looked at Sai, who was in front of her. The weapon on his back was definitely an eye-catcher, as was the 'thing' underneath. Fuuka's long hair fluttered in the wind. The darker it got outside, the more her hair color changed from dark-red to maroon.
Fuuka shook her head.
I can't believe she sent me on a mission with that... with that jerk. Why me though?
She thought that Fuen probably felt that she could complete the task that Fuen's agent Hisame had apparently failed at.
Then she looked to her right.
After all, this girl is also there.
Fuuka and Sai were not alone. The two were accompanied by a girl who went by the name of Sumire. She had long, purple-colored hair braided into two pigtails and was at least as silent as Sai. However, her hair was nowhere near as long as Fuuka's. The fact that Fuen was hanging out with a young girl must have had a good reason.
It doesn't suit her at all.
"We'll soon reach the border of Taki," came from the front. Sai looked to his two companions behind.
"We should..."
Suddenly, there was a hiss, and Sai used his blade to fend off a good half dozen Shuriken coming at him. The trio stopped. Standing together in attack stance on a thick branch, they checked their surroundings.
Below a treetop diagonally above them, a group suddenly appeared. Judging by their dark gray clothing and the mark on their headbands, they were Ninjas from Taki. There were three of them as well. Completely hooded, the three pairs of eyes looked down at the trio.
"So you must be Hisame's accomplices!"
